About this property

This delightful cottage sits in a serene location on the outskirts of Newtonmore, amidst the scenery of the Cairngorms National Park. Set in approximately an acre of mature woodland, Creag Dhubh is the perfect escape for families looking to break away from normal life and see what this region of Scotland has to offer. After a day of fell walking, kick off your walking boots and head to the lounge, appointed with a sofa, chair and TV with Freeview, so you can catch up on your favourite shows. The kitchen hosts all the essentials for a self-catered stay, allowing you to rustle up a tasty feast when you’re not a local restaurant, whilst the utility comes with a handy washing machine for your laundry. Wash away the day in the shower room before choosing between two neatly presented bedrooms to catch some rest. The master houses a king-size bed with en-suite bathroom, whilst the second bedroom offers two single zip/link beds which can be arranged as a super-king-size on request. To the outside of this Newtonmore cottage is an expansive garden with regular visits from red squirrels, garden birds and red deer! The village of Newtonmore is particularly popular with anglers and grouse hunters, whilst there is also a great selection of pubs and eateries should you fancy a night off cooking. Get to know your surroundings better by exploring a range of walking and cycling trails, plus there’s even opportunity for pony-trekking. For a family day out, the Wild Cat Trail and Wild Cat Experience is nearby, whilst those looking to trace their Highland ancestry can visit the Clan MacPherson Museum! Alternatively, history buffs will love the Highland Folk Museum which showcases how Scottish Highland ancestors lived, how they built their homes and how they tilled the soil! There’s plenty to look forward to whilst holidaying at Creag Dhubh!

The Highland Folk Museum and the Clan MacPherson Museum are two outstanding, award-winning museums in Newtonmore, which is situated in the Cairngorms National Park, the largest national park in the United Kingdom, and overlooks the River Spey. The Wildcat Trail in Newtonmore is a well-liked 7-mile circular walk that circles the village's perimeter. It passes by the River Spey and offers views of the Cairngorm Mountains across the valley, as well as woodland, moorland, and the Monadhliath Mountains behind the village. The Folk Park, Kincraig's Wildlife Park, Carrbridge's Landmark, and the Steam Railway are also prominent local attractions for younger visitors. Fine golf, fishing, pony rides, walking, birdwatching, cycling, mountain biking, climbing, and skiing all available nearby, making the area a great starting point from which to explore all that this picturesque region of Scotland has to offer.

It’s set in an idyllic location surrounded by trees and it was wonderful watching an array of birds species visiting the garden (we brought bird seed from Tesco's Aviemore) we even saw a red squirrel which was an amazing sight too behold and we were so happy we saw this iconic Scottish animal. There is also a lovely walk to go on not too far away from the property within a beautiful setting with many sheep. The property itself is very warm and cosy with all the amenity's you will need for your stay. It’s a little gem and we’re very glad we found it. We will be booking again very soon.

Some of which could have benefited with the instruction leaflets. The last 100 yards of the approach road could do with an upgrade, otherwise we have no complaints and throughly enjoyed our stay.

We especially loved the jacuzzi bathtub. We saw some reviews mentioning the building works but we had no inconveniences from this at all. The surrounding area is so peaceful and lovely to go for walks as well! I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing break.
