What our customers say about their holidays

    • Margaret - Verified booking

Ciaran cottage was generally comfortable, clean, nicely decorated & fairly well equipped.

The path is steep, as has been mentioned, & for a couple in our late 60's, could be a bit slippy & sore on the knees. Another couple of things which were mentioned in your reviews:- there was a problem with the shower drain - we had to clean it out as it was really gunged up and the sofa & chair don't offer good support for older backs like ours but I'm sure they'll be fine for younger folks. The dyson vacuum was also packed full and looked like someone might have used it to clean out the shower drain - it had definately been used to suck up something wet and it was difficult to get the contents cleaned out. There were only instructions for using the heaters & nothing for how to use the oven, hob or dishwasher but when I phoned the owner, he was very helpful and told me how to work the dishwasher and said that he was working on instructions to leave in the cottage for guests. The listing says it's an induction hob but it's not - it's a ceramic hob and it takes a while to heat up. The water pressure (another thing previously mentioned) is really bad, so fill some jugs with cold water if you want to have cups of tea during the day without waiting ages to fill the kettle. There was no sieve or potato masher - which would have been useful. I don't like to give negative feedback but hopefully this is helpful and on the whole we liked the cottage (the bed was comfy) and the views are great. I'm sure a younger couple would be happy there. The area is lovely and it's well worth a visit to the Crannog Centre and to book a boat trip on the loch. The co-op in Aberfeldy is really good and the village shop in Kenmore is handy for topping up with things.

      We were VERY DISAPPOINTED.

The first thing to greet us when we entered the property was a hoover FULL of other peoples dirt. There was an unpleasant smell. There was grass and grit under rack on right hand side as you come in door. Dust on chairs in snug. Dust around both sofas, you could see the dust under living room sofa from standing in kitchen. The end cushion fell off the sofa and I was disgusted by what was under it. Chrome light switches were dirty from other peoples fingers. Windows were dirty. Dirty smear marks left from a dirty cloth on tv and wardrobes. Dust and food splatters on tiles beside internet and the socket for this was covered in dust. I had to clean the fridge and a cupboard before I put our food in it. There was no way I was going to use the microwave as it was filthy. There was quite a bit of oil spillage in one cupboard. Cutlery drawer has loads of crumbs in it. Food on door of cupboard under the sink.I Had to clean the kettle and toaster. I cleaned 2 of everything we were going to need and kept in on the work top and just used those. The cups were disgusting. I had to clean the bath and it’s just a matter of time before someone goes through it. The basin tap is very stiff we were worried it was going to break and the toilet roll holder is rusty. The bathroom and front bedroom really could be doing with a paint. We could not get normal to channels on the tv, the news and weather was for Cumbria not Perthshire. Th tv is high up on the wall and the sofa has no neck support so it is very uncomfortable to watch the tv. Also be careful when lighting the stove as the curtain is touching it

We had such a wonderful time at Tarken house celebrating my husband’s birthday over the New Year holidays (four adults, four children age 6-9). The property is beautiful and the photos somehow don’t capture just how amazing it is (that’s not a criticism of the photos, more of how lovely it is). We arrived to such a lovely experience - lights on, birthday banners and balloons set out, warm toastie heating on, welcome whiskey, biscuits and Scottish tablet… We appreciated so much about our stay - the views, the spaciousness, how well kitted out it is, how many towels, toilet rolls and kitchen rolls were left for us, the wonderful welcome. We loved that logs were all provided and the beds were soooo comfortable. We met so many warm, welcoming and helpful locals. There were walks from the door step and the pool, darts and pool table to occupy us when we didn’t want to venture out. There was always something to entertain all of us, including some much needed rest and relaxation. I can’t tell you how helpful, flexible and kind the housekeepers were (on several accounts that were entirely our fault). We’ve stayed in lots of houses over the years but their kindness has really shone through for us. We can’t recommend Tarken House enough and would love to come back in the summer months.

Lovely big house in a great location.

The large garden with a stream running through was lovely & the hot tub was a treat after a day of walking with the dogs! 5 min drive to Killin, with a co-op & we can recommend the Falls of Dochart Inn & Courie Inn - but would book ahead! Beds were all comfortable and the kitchen well equipped but we had to do quite a lot of cleaning in the kitchen (& of the cutlery, etc) when we arrived, before we used it. Lots of storage, especially in ‘master’ bedroom The lounge and kitchen were both a squeeze for a group of 5 adults but we made it work! A different dining table (perhaps that folds when not all in use) and an extra couple of small chairs in the lounge would be ideal. The house could really benefit from some electric dehumidifiers or a change in the bedrooms to be able to open the windows as they are quite damp & you can see the damage it’s doing! A clothes airer would have been really handy as well as the tumble in the garage which we made use of. An info booklet on local walks, amenities, vets, history of the house would have been greatly appreciated. Regardless of the above, we had a great stay but with a few tweaks and some TLC this house could be PERFECT. Ps watch out for the Llamas over the road when you pull out the driveway ;-)

This is the second time we have stayed and we feel there has been a decline in the cleanliness.

So many cobwebs ( we live in the country so know this is an issue) however when you are paying for a service the expectation is that it will be clean. We had to hoover on arrival as the floor hadn’t been cleaned, still bits on the floor, sweet under the chair in the snug room. Really disappointed in the time we had there due to partners health and having to leave. Your communication was great about boiler and filter. Think a booklet could be made including the info about water and other useful info because that didn’t happen to us last year either. Also couldn’t find clothes airer which had been there on previous year, would be helpful to dry clothes. Piece of decking is rotten on entrance to veranda- could cause an issue. Dirty pans in the cupboards, had to clean them all before we could use them. Next doors dog was constantly barking- again not inclined to animals as we have our own farm animals and brought our own dog with us but it was constant. Not sure if your cleaner has changed but drastic difference since last year which is really sad as it is a lovely place with amazing views. We still would come back as it’s perfect for a restful stay but would like to see major improvements in the cleanliness.
