Penny Liggan was a spacious holiday rental, with amble parking and good outdoor space for our dog.

However the house felt run down and very out dated with exception of the kitchen which had been refitted. The kitchen taps would make a horrendous noise every time someone used the shower/taps from their bathrooms (we worked out they werenât screwed on tightly enough). The SKY TV didnât work, they only provided terrestrial channels as they didnât have a subscription, they just provide a sky box, which would ordinarily be fine if the TV was smart and would allow us to log in to our Netflix / Amazon accounts but it wasnât, so for future holidaymakers, bring an HDMI cable and a laptop that you can plug in to be able to watch content on demand, otherwise you will be watching either live terrestrial television or old DVDs (we recommend Enemy at the Gate from the collection). My parents had the large double bedroom, auntie in the 2nd double bedroom and my husband and I in the twin bedroom. The twin had a broken chest of drawers which was difficult to open and no wardrobe, it felt damp in there also. Something also to bear in mind was that the property looked directly onto St Enodocâs golf course, which is cool, until you realise you donât have a huge amount of privacy because they can look in on you in 3 of the bedrooms and the living room. The outdoor space was nice, we sat out on the chairs often, we didnât use the BBQ as we didnât have reason to. If you like us are keen body boarders in Cornwall, be aware there are no outdoor showers and no dedicated drying space for wetsuits. There is a laundry room but one of the cupboards is locked (standard) but the other cupboard isnât suitable for wetsuits. The roof light in the painted red downstairs toilet leaks, so if itâs raining you will get wet whilst doing your business. The kitchen is space is lovely with a large table for everyone to have space to eat at and a separate fridge freezer allowing us to store enough food for the week, however all the pans bar two are non-induction compatible so do not work on the hob, so with a party of 8 people, trying to feed everyone with 2 small pans is not ideal. We had a lovely time at Penny Liggan which had a fantastic location and would return but be more prepared next time and would hope some of the issues would have been remedied.

There was a lot we loved about this property!

Location and size of the property was perfect- outdoor space was great! Beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. But- it was rather cluttered- lots of personal nick nacks and photos- there was stuff everywhere! This detracted from the beauty of the property. There were also cob webs everywhere!! It must be impossible to clean with so much stuff everywhere. I think more information is needed re hot water- we struggled for the first 2 days and even when we boosted it on the timer it meant the showers were hot but the bath was only ever Luke warm- this would not be ideal for a family with younger children. The dishwasher looks like it has seen better days- though worked well- The sofas in the lounge at the back/by the kitchen are extremely worn, marked and not very comfortable. If the weather has been better we would happily have sat outside on the lovely garden furniture but this was not to be! The carpets and rugs are marked in places too. The door to the downstairs small double was off its hinge - almost- it meant the door had to stay open and my elderly mum had to walk around it- but not much room to do this! I emailed Sykes on day one to flag this up but did say it wasnât an urgent matter- I received no reply so not sure if it will be dealt with before the next occupants. Overall we had a lovely stay but the house needs some attention- we have stayed in quite a few Sykes properties and this is the first time Iâve ever given mixed feedback.

Having used John bray for approximately 15yrs we were extremely disappointed with this property.

The bedrooms all smelt of dog urine and were musty..our miniature Jack Russell (bitch) is fully house trained and although we travel with a dog this is the first time staying in a dog friendly cottage that smelt of urine in the bedrooms where dogs are supposedly not allowed . Tired dirty carpets old furniture no headboard on master bed and single beds in front bedroom . Weâve come to expect a far higher standard than this with John bray. The iron also had to be reported on arrival as it was it such a terrible state (looked like a safety hazard) which was replaced promptly. For once we were grateful to leave the property at the end of our stay. The living area was the only saving Grace. We most definitely would not return! Extremely disappointedâ¦I also have photos of the disgusting state of the duvet in the other main bedroom which is fit for one thing â¦the bin.. it had multiple large questionable stains on it .. we had to use another duvetâ¦ however under no circumstances should that particular duvet have been there for people to useâ¦ utterly disgraceful and a hugely disappointing stayâ¦ this property needs serious attention in the bedrooms. Iâd be interested to hear your response to these issues.

The best thing about this property is the location, which is wonderful and so convenient for everything in Rock.

It is our second year here but sadly my description last year as âshabby chicâ would now have to be more shabby than chic. The property was definitely cleaner than last year and didnât smell so musty when we arrived but the garden cushions were still very stained and despite lots of fresh air during our stay, the smell was definitely back in the downstairs bedrooms & lounge after a couple of days. We didnât open the room above the garage this year but last year the smell was so strong in there we decided no one would want to sleep there. We were impressed by John Bray getting maintenance out the same day we reported a broken blind in the bathroom & a locked window in a bedroom that we couldnât open. We also couldnât get an internet connection but by the time maintenance had arrived, my husband had realised a key plug was pulled out- itâs probably the cleaner because itâs the most accessible plug for the hoover to reach everywhere downstairs & we remembered that the same thing happened last year.

Lerryn is so well located for local amenities as well as a great base for exploring this stunning area of Cornwall.

The property was plenty spacious enough for two families and the living quarters/kitchen diner really is lovely and generous. Saying all that, there are a few recommendations for improvement. The bedrooms do smell damp, the shower in the utility didnât work and dripped all week, the BBQ grill was filthy on arrival and the BBQ in general is on its last legs. For two families the fridge/freezer could be twice the size but we coped. The main inconvenience however was the fact that no linen is provided. Despite Sykes Customer Services strangely telling me bath mats were included there was actually nothing; we ended up using our only self-provided hand towel as a bath mat! Lastly, clarity on recycling would be welcomed as the kitchen notice board and bins all stated different collection days. All in all a great property with so much potential, just needs a bit of TLC and the finishing touches.
