What our customers say about their holidays

    • Susan - Verified booking

Our stay has been great, however we have felt that there are some issues that cannot go unmentioned in the hope that it is constructive and allows forward progress.

Some of the issues cannot be resolved but we feel that they are better to be mentioned. On arrival, in the dark, wet, cold and snow we found the drive to steep for us to see any appropriate parking space. We parked in a space( not the correct one) and attempted to find the keys: What can we say!! In a dark shed, leaning across a smelly bin we were supposed to read and correctly identify the numbers. We decided at this point NEVER TO RETURN. Our first impression was not good. Once inside our apartment we were pleasantly surprised. We found everything clean and tidy and a big bin with a bag in it ready for our rubbish. Nothing anywhere informed us that there was differentiated recycling in place. This was found once we had filled our first bag. What a nightmare!!! Perhaps a laminated sheet attached to the wall above the bin would have helped to start in the correct manner. We found the cold water sink tap in the main bathroom to be not tightened so it just swivels . The shower in the master bedroom was extremely stiff to turn on. Finally on our last full day then scaffolding arrived at 8.30Am having woken us up to move our car. We were surprised as this had not been mentioned at any point throughout the booking process or our stay. Hope you find these comments constructive as they are meant to help. Yours Sue Vincent

We’ve been coming to Newquay several times a year for over 15 years and this is the first time I have felt the need to write a poor review.

We were told 2 weeks prior to the holiday there was scaffolding at the building but didn’t affect our view (photo showed it was outside the apt next door) or parking and should be completed before our arrival. Upon our arrival on the Friday not only was the scaffolding there it had been moved to outside our apt. It was very obvious that the work would be ongoing for a while and we were unable to use the patio. Monday morning the builders turned up and we were asked to move our car as they would be spraying. We parked on the street for the rest of the holiday and couldn’t move it as we would unlikely find another free parking space. Tuesday morning the diesel run cherry picker arrived outside the bedroom windows and for the rest of the holiday this was running from 8 am. One of the bedroom windows was covered in plastic blocking any view. Add to this that whoever was staying above clomped around from 6.30 am every morning – we came home in need of sleep. I have no complaints about housekeeping/property management as there was nothing they could do – they even brought us flowers and wine to thank us for moving our car. The builders were as considerate as they could be.

      1. Whilst there was a dishwasher it’s purpose was largely redundant given the limited amount of crockery and cutlery.

For example, there were only two tea mugs. We would have preferred to spend less time washing up but it was not possible to fill the dishwasher. 2. The outside lighting was very poor. We arrived in the dark and could barely see the outside steps. It is a potential accident waiting to happen. 3. It was difficult to locate the property in the dark as there was no sign outside to identify it. 4. It would have been useful if plug adapters had been provided. 5. The information pack in the apartment is out of date. For example, it recommends a restaurant which went out of business two years ago; there was no torch in the drawer. 6. Given that we paid five star prices we expected five star provisions. 7. The bed was very comfortable. 8. The apartment was located in a very quiet area which we enjoyed. 9. Alexa and the smart TVs were good. 10. The fridge freezer was good. 11. Good quality bed linen and towels were provided. Overall, we would recommend staying at the apartment. If the owner makes the suggested improvements it will be even better!

We had a lovely holiday stay in Apple Barn and the enclosed garden was perfect for our dog.

Pauline (Housekeeping) was lovely in taking care of us and making us feel welcome and the welcome email and handy app from the owners prior to arrival is a brilliant idea so you have everything at your finger tips if you if you need it. For me this would be 5 stars if it had a larger bathroom and softer mattress in one of the rooms. The current shower room which is just off the kitchen is tiny for a two bed property. Even my 6 foot husband couldn’t sit on the toilet properly because of lack of space which isn’t ideal and could be an issue for even taller occupants. The shower room sink also became quite blocked during our stay, but once the owner was contacted they did say they would sort this straight away before the next guest stay. A lovely place and location to stay. We have stayed in Lavender Barn too before which is across the road and given this is only 1 bed, it feels a much larger property.

      Excellent cottage.

What I did find that was different to other cottages was the communication from the owners and property manager. I was contacted with very usefull info from both the owner and the property manager in the days leading up to our trip down to Cornwall. They have a purpose made APP dedicated to the cottage and the beautiful village of Crantock with info on places to visit - a real gem of an idea. The cottage itself is prestine and loved every aspect of it. The enclosed garden is ideal for dogs as well. The cottage is literally 2 mins walk to 2 pubs and a lovely cafe - all of these are not to be missed out. The amazing Crantock beach is only around 10 mins to walk to as well. I could go on for ever about this property and village. You won't be dissapointed at all. 5 star holiday cottage :)
