"a little while later he arrived telling us that we had disturbed him watching the rugby & that a part had been ordered & would arrive on the Tuesday. Tuesday evening on our return the situation had not changed, we rang him again, he had not at that time chased the plumber. It was fixed on Wednesday 14th to some degree & we were never contacted to check it was OK. The 2nd major problem was there was no Wi-Fi, the hub was flashing on & off, again I tried to resolve the problem on not being able to find the problem I again called the caretaker who told me someone would look at it the next day, I was then contacted by the owner the next day & asked to describe what was happening & then told that evening by the caretaker that this had previously been reported to BT who had sent a new hub but had sent it to the owners address in Lincolnshire & they would send it up. This problem was never fixed & we were never contacted again about it. The downstairs lounge TV was not very good & the upstairs shower pole did not work. If we had been informed of the 2 problems it would of saved us time. We were offered to use the caretakers bathroom which however kind the gesture was, we were not on a camping holiday & had elderly parents with us. We were also offered the use of the caretakers wi-fi, again a kind offer but I needed it to research for an exam but wanted to be with my family as well & did not want to spend each evening in the home of a stranger. We paid wi-fi but didn't get it & had a lot of inconveniences, we would not recommend this lodge."

"The 'house' was not at all suitable for a dog as the living room was upstairs and dogs were not allowed upstairs. The downstairs bedroom had no windows so was dark and airless. The upstairs bedroom was too light. The blinds on the window were useless and there was a street lamp outside. The velux windows had blinds on them but it was impossible to reach them so they were uncovered all the time. There was no dishwasher which is fair enough but there was no draining board to put the washed items. With a wet dog and child, it would have been a good idea to come and go through the utility room but then the dog (and the rest of us) would have had to go through the downstairs bedroom (which was not allowed).I would not describe the house as 'end of terrace'. It was more like a garage conversion! It looked very modern and attractive inside but was really not very user friendly."

"The weather was unexpectedly warm. Northumberland is a beautiful county and we covered most of the roads in the Northumberland National Park during our week. The Railway Inn was barely a 5 minute walk from the cottage and has a good menu. The houses and gardens at Wallington and Cragside (both National Trust) were spectacular. You could spend a whole week exploring just these properties as the gardens are extensive and both have plenty of woodland walks. Kielder Water and Forest are not too far away but I would advise sticking to the main roads rather than the forest drive. Ford and Etal area is very picturesque and the thatched Black Bull in Etal is well worth a lunch stop."

"A spacious cottage with its own contained back garden. We were greeted by Bernard (our land-lord) who seemed genuinely pleased to see us. We found wine and biscuits for us, and a packet of the latter for our little dog. There are two bedrooms. One contains a double bed and the snore-room has a single bed. There was enough kitchen equipment for those staying in the cottage and a vacuum cleaner for use when necessary. The cottage was clean, as were the towels and bedding provided. There is plenty of places to go locally and Bernard is a mine of information. His recommended eating places proved accurate. A very reasonably priced week. I booked via Sykes Cottages."

"Just returned from a great week's holidaying at Shunting Cottage. It was perfect for us and our dogs. It was comfortable, warm, clean, well equipped and had secure little patio area to allow the dogs out. It's location was great for exploring Northumberland. The area has so much to offer with castles and beaches, beautiful villages and some top rate restaurants. The owners were very helpful but not intrusive in anyway despite living in the adjacent property. They even offered to dog sit! We had a welcome gift of chocolates for us and treats for the dogs which were very gratefully received. Couldn't have asked for better. Very happy customers!!!!"
