What our customers say about their holidays

    • Steven - Verified booking

On arrival the house looks very appealing.

Perched very high affording fantastic views over the bay. It has a lovely large kitchen, suited to the high number of guests that this property can hold. It was a bonus to find it had identical twin ovens to our own. All modern and a variety of kitchenware. No complaints. The whole of the downstairs has wooden flooring which is a godsend when you have a couple of dogs, nice touch having a dog bed in the lounge. What did frighten us was the three full length 100% glass doors. We strategically positioned chairs to prevent our 2 year and 13 month grandchildren going anywhere near ( they look so thin), the cube shaped door handles with sharp pointed edges added to the hazard. We had three generations of our family staying, outside there is a lovely sheltered balcony with a large seating area, fantastic. A word of warning, don’t pick the twin room with en-suite as we did. The beds are atrocious, sleeping on a mattress with a deep ravine when you have back problems is no fun. Waking up in the middle of the night and hating the fact you have several more hours to endure before getting up! The bed slats creak very loudly on every minor movement, a complete joke. You also have to have the quickest shower possible as the drain can’t handle the amount of water, you’re standing almost ankle deep with the water level close to the doors. The toilet also clears its flush very slowly. Despite the bed the rest of the property was very good and the main bathroom was very nice. The lounge had loads of comfortable sofas and the TV had so many options. On a safety note, stair gates were asked for, one was totally useless, impossible to lock and we had to use the awkward swing preventer to jam it. A couple of times our granddaughter was found climbing the stairs. We had asked for a cot, no mattress provided, it did say “no bedding” which we assumed, no duvet or sheets. Please supply dimensions if you’re not providing a mattress, there are so many different sizes. Directions finding the place in hindsight was good, but as first arrivals we found it difficult. Why not use “What 3 Words” app? On all listings. Lots of pluses and an enjoyable week for all. Shame about the bed which somewhat spoilt the experience for me but my children and their partners and grandchildren loved it. We would very much like to visit again.

The location of Windrush is absolutely amazing!

Sitting on the balcony you can enjoy superb views of Mawgan Porth bay and the cliffs, we were blessed with some gorgeous autumn sun too which was perfection. You can take a short walk down the (steep) hill to the beach or along the coast to the town where you will find a few small local shops for essentials and nick naks, a lovely pub called the Merrymoor Inn and a restaurant called the Catch - you need to book any restaurants. Cornish Fresh do delicious coffee and pasties. The beach is soft sand, the sea crystal clear with plenty of busy rock pools to explore. The strong tides left pools along the beach which were warm and safe for the children splash in - all making a really idyllic place to be. The huge disappointment with the property was the standard of cleanliness. You cannot get access to the property until 5pm to allow for the deeper cleaning to be done between guests, which for us as a family 6 with young children was a bit tricky being stuck out until late the day. I understand the reasons and would be fine with it if the house was actually clean! We entered to find pubic hairs left on the toilet and shower, splodges of shampoo or similar on the tiles from the previous guests where it had obviously not been wiped, toe nail clippings and other bits on the bedroom floor where it had clearly not been hovered, dead flies and spiders collected on the window sills where they had not been dusted for some time. Not pleasant at any time but during this time of heightened awareness of hygiene it was very upsetting. Before you leave guests are required to totally clean the kitchen, empty the fridge, freezer and dishwasher, strip all linen off the beds and put all the towels in the bathroom... all before 9am! My 7 year old asked me "mummy, if we have to do all this why wasn't the house clean for us?" I didn't felt like there was someone to call if there was a question or problem. The number provided for the housekeeper was never answered and there is no option of leaving a message. My son's bed slats were broken (which didn't matter as we were not fully occupying the house and so there was a spare) that could have been a huge problem and there was no one for us to contact. I will definitely return to this area but would not use Sykes again.

Location was perfect for us in Mawgan Porth .

You could either drive to the beach and pay a very small daily parking charge or if you felt energetic you could easily walk down a slope to the beach (check for tide times). The cottage was very spacious with a well laid out fitted kitchen (with dishwasher) and ample workspace , good storage and sizeable fridge freezer. You are spoilt with a balcony with a beautiful view over the bay so you can enjoy the evening having a drink watching the world go by listening to the sea roll in or eat alfresco using the table and chairs provided. There was a good sized bathroom with a separate shower, a single shower room and three toilets so great for large families visiting. There is a large wall mounted TV with DVD ,and freeview and a decent Wifi connection. Phone signals we found were a bit hit and miss but when your on holiday the phone is the least of your worries. Mawgan Porth itself had basic shopping facilities so you do have the option of going though to Newquay about 5 miles where most major supermarkets are dotted about or have your groceries delivered. Newquay Aldi has the best view from a supermarket car park worth a visit just for that. All in all an excellent stay and would recommend Windrush as a holiday base, we will be back!

Great location as close to the beach (approx 15 min walk).

Very comfortable beds and the furniture included sun loungers, which is a must as far as I am concerned. We had a heatwave during our stay so the lined curtains kept the heat out when needed. The kitchen wanted for nothing and the welcome pack was a nice touch. I loved the fact that this property does recycling and all the bags were provided for this This was a great place to relax and the wildlife, in the huge garden, were a joy to photograph. We walked to the Bedruthan Steps along the coastal path which is close to the Lodge, just across the road and down a private road. My only constructive criticism is that the Information pack in the house is out of date. Lots of construction and re naming of properties in Mawgan Porth mean that the walk instructions are confusing. We know Mawgan Porth well so knew where to go. Just an update on the walking instructions is all that is needed. It would be helpful too if the Smart TV could be set up for the free BBC i player, ITVX etc. We were surprised to see a static mobile home in the front garden which luckily was not being used! But was worried for a minute!! We loved Seaport Lodge.

Sykes were impossible to get hold of after many failed attempts I gave up.

The beds were not very comfortable and the slats under one of the single beds kept falling out. The toilet seat was lose in the bathroom and the shower curtain out dated and not very effective so let water all over the floor. There were not enough towels so we had to wash them often. The boiler stopped working on the last night so no hot water and it was not clear who to call. The rubbish collection notice in the kitchen said Friday and we later discovered the house folder said Tuesday so that wasn't clear at all. The rug in the ensuite room had really unpleasant odour and the curtains were very sheer so let all the light in. The house is in a lovely position however and the garden is superb. The living room if very comfortable with lovely views out to sea and kitchen is quite new I think and very well equipped. There is a great dining area too and on this basis I would recommend the house but hope the owners take the feedback in the spirit in which is meant which is constructive, because it could be so much better with a few small improvements.
