What our customers say about their holidays

    • Hannah - Verified booking

Thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our week in the Lake District, and Townfoot Cottage just completed the perfect holiday.

The location is not difficult to get to and parking is easy with an allocated space just outside the front door. It’s cosy, comfortable and is equipped with everything you need. The cottage was very clean and the owners had provided some helpful information on how everything works, which was great. There are even board games and DVDs for a chilled night in which we thoroughly enjoyed using! The beds and pillows were so comfortable. We loved being in such a rural location, and the cottage is a very short walk to the local pub the Britannia (great pub food)! There are also lots of lovely walks you can do close by including one from opposite the pub which takes you past the beautiful Elterwater lake. We also loved how conveniently located the cottage is from our favourite villages such as Ambleside and Grasmere. This stay was just what we needed for a break away from the city and we will definitely be coming back again and will be recommending Townfoot Cottage and Sykes/Lake Lovers to our friends and family. The whole process of booking was smooth and the staff were always super friendly and helpful. Thank you!

The property was beautiful, well thought out, very well equipped and we thoroughly enjoyed staying there.

The location was perfect and the secure garden for our dog was a real gem and one of the main draws to staying here. Unfortunately the bath was unusable our entire stay and although a lady who had been cleaning the cottage was there after 4pm when we arrived who told us she'd reported it to Lake Lovers who said they should be out the next day no one arrived. The same can be said for the main double bed which a leg had broken off and wasn't fixed whilst we were staying there. Fortunately there was a second double bed in the upper level which we were able to access but should other guests have perhaps had mobility issues etc navigating the spiral stairs may not have been so easy. All of that being said it's just bad luck when things break or go wrong and it wasn't the be all and end all of our stay and it wouldn't deter us from staying at this property again!

This was our 8th visit to squirrel cottage, love the cottage and area.

Make over in the bathroom great. Never mentioned this last year as we thought it was a one off, but the person staying in the place attached to squirrels, came into our garden with his dog, and then panicked when he realised we were sitting in the garden. But this morning when we were eating breakfast a young lady came down with her coffee to sit in the garden, we were taken back, my dog was not happy. I asked her, can I help you , she said she understood that this was for them to use. I explained it was not, she was fine and left. Maybe it should be made clear that they a garden view, but no access. Normally when we get back from a day out, we just let our dog off to run down the steps into the garden, the lady and us would have been taken back. Anyway we had a lovely holiday . See you next year Regards. Patricia

We stayed here for a (miraculously rain free) week in mid-October.

The cottage is extremely comfortable and well furnished - excellent wifi and plenty of smart TV options (essential for my teenage daughter). Beds upstairs very comfortable and an extremely powerful shower. Great location with both a coffee shop and excellent pub within 2 minutes walk. Short drives to Ambleside, Grasmere and Little Langdale with many further eating out options. Huge variety of walks and amazing views in the valley. Didn't meet Alun, the owner, face to face, but we corresponded by text and he was very helpful 0 being able to check in a couple of hours early was hugely appreciated. Only point for improvement - a few cooking accessories such as foil and clingfilm would be good: we had to buy our own and left these behind when we departed; it seems a bit wasteful if every visitor does the same thing.

Townfoot cottage has an authentic cottage feel but with all mid cons.

It was spotless and had everything we needed for our weeks stay. I slept in the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in (including my own). The area its in is absolutely stunning with lovely little walks on the doorstep aswell as being very central to other areas with walks of every level. No garden but it wasn't an issue for the dog as in any direction right outside the door the walks are great. Lovely pub and cafe 5 mins walk away. Local convienience store only about a mile away is well stocked with everything, plus a nice cafe upstairs. A lovely extra was the use of the Choices health centre 20 mins drive away. Really nice pool, hot tub, sauna and steam and gym. I would definately recommend this cottage and the beautiful area of Elterwater, just perfect
