Shore Meadow is a dog-friendly cottage praised for its peaceful location near a beautiful beach, ideal for walks. Guests appreciate the enclosed gardens and the functional space, despite noting that the decor and maintenance could be improved. The property offers a comfortable stay with essential amenities, though some guests feel it is overpriced for the current standards.
Several reviews mention poor cleanliness, including cobwebs, dirty utility rooms, and unclean kitchen appliances. However, not all reviews are negative, suggesting inconsistency in cleaning standards.
The location is highly praised for its tranquility and proximity to the beach, making it perfect for dog owners and those seeking a quiet retreat. The scenic surroundings are a consistent highlight among guests.
Guests find the cottage comfortable overall, with a good size and enclosed gardens. However, some mention uncomfortable mattresses and a damp smell in one of the bedrooms, indicating room for improvement.
The facilities are deemed adequate by guests, with everything needed for a stay. However, there are frequent comments on the need for updates and maintenance, such as fixing broken items and refreshing the decor.
There is no mention of gifts or special thoughtful touches provided by the hosts in the reviews, so it is not possible to score this category.

A lovely location if you like peace and quiet. Perfect for me and my two dogs who loved the beach walking. The view of the sea especially when a bit wild is superb. Cottage has everything I need and local amenities are only a short drive away.

Just back from our fourth stay. Everything was exactly as we expected and we had a wonderful week away. The cottage is perfectly located with a lovely beach pretty much on its doorstep (the tides weren’t in our favour this year as they were mostly high during daylight hours, but that can’t be helped). It’s a functional space, if you’re looking for Boutique then this isn’t the place for you, but if you want a comfortable, well equipped dog friendly cottage with some of the UK’s most glorious scenery well within reasonable driving distance, then you’ll love it. Nearest shop is about 4 miles away in Millom, so go well prepared or expect a little drive out to pick up your provisions. The great location of the cottage more than makes up for this.Would we go again? Already booked for next year. Can’t wait!

This was our second trip to Shore Meadow and not a lot has changed since our visit a year ago, which is positive from the perspective of knowing what and where we were going to, but also highlighted that there hadn’t been any investment in the property over the 12 months. I therefore empathise with some of the reviews that have been disappointed with the tiredness of the decor and some of the basic maintenance issues that could be very easily put right and wouldn’t cost huge amounts of time or money; a coat of paint on the kitchen cupboards, replacing peeling wallpaper, the bathroom flooring and the most dangerous yet easily fixed trip hazard of the broken threshold strip into the main bedroom. And that’s why I agree that the property is expensive to rent. That said, we don’t have to worry about the dogs damaging anything or making a mess which we would do in a pristine property. We had another fantastic week in this perfect, quiet location so close to that beautiful beach that the dogs love. This year’s weather was wet and wild with 40 mile an hour winds and the resulting sea was spectacular. Having the space and ability to remove drenched human waterproofs and wash the dogs down and dry them before entering the main house was a godsend, as was being able to wash and dry dirty, soggy towels. So depending on your perspective and what you would like from your holiday will depend how feel about the property - luxurious it isn’t, but if like us, the space, location and dog friendliness are your priority then it’s almost perfect. I agree it’s over priced but not enough to stop us from returning again next year for the sake of the dogs.
