Immaculately maintained, tiny characterful property.
The Old Stable had everything we needed for a comfortable week away, although I would not think a longer stay would be practicable owing to the basic cooking facilities (a portable two ring electric hob and microwave) and just a tumble drier meaning handwashing lighter items of clothing, finding a laundrette or bringing lots of stuff. We appreciated the good quality tea, coffee bags and biscuits which are the hallmark of a thoughtful and welcoming host. Towels and tea towels are provided but bring your own beach towels. The bed on its little gallery is comfortable but we found moving the rolling steps to and fro in order to cook then wash up a bit of a faff, be aware they are quite heavy with steel handrails and glass panels. We knew about this arrangement, and it wouldn't put us off staying here again. No outside space of course, which we also knew about, but the quiet beach is adjacent and is one of our favourites on the Lizard. The Five Pilchards pub, which in the past has done good pub food, has closed down and is for sale but we had a great meal at the beach café next door. I know people rave about the Fat Apples café just up the lane but every time we went past we had just missed it being open. It shuts promptly at 5 pm. Our dog enjoyed staying here and we were glad she couldn't get up the steep steps and attempt to climb onto the bed to find us, which she sometimes does in an unfamiliar house. She had to stay in her own dog bed. She knew where we were and could see us so she was content. This was a definite plus for us.

The Blue Oyster is a very comfortable spacious holiday property for one or two people.
It has all mod cons and an excellent en-suite double bedroom. I holidayed there in early February and found the two electric heaters to keep the property warm and comfortable throughout the cold days. The property is situated on the outskirts of Mullion village which has two mini supermarkets, two pubs and a fish and chip restaurant. A fifteen minute walk from the village will take you to two excellent hotels with views overlooking the rugged coastline. If walking the South West Coast Path is your favourite pastime then the Blue Oyster is ideally situated for walking all of the Lizard Peninsula. There is an excellent bus service from Penzance to Helston and from Helston to the Lizard village. The owner Dean is very friendly and helpful and is on hand should he be needed to solve any property issues or indeed to offer local tourism advice. I have stayed several times over recent years and I will be booking another stay in the future. I can highly recommended the Blue Oyster for a relaxing, stress free holiday.

What a gem of a propertyâ¦Annetteâs welcome was so warm 10/10 & her scones are amazing.
Both her & Martyn were there if anything was required, nothing was a problem. The big black book with all local information in was so helpful (luckily no vets or doctors needed). For my partner & I the garden for the dogs was amazing, & always a big one for us. We timed it that when the people in Goldolphin Barn were in the garden, we stayed in (re-active terrier) then went out when they finished which wasnât often, our terrier did managed to get into the other garden a couple of times. Location of the cottage is set down the end of a track, very quiet & peaceful. Perfect for exploring Penzance, Helston, Lands End & south west Cornwall. Praa Sands became our local beach & our 2 four legged girls loved it. If your a fish lover then popping into Newlyn for daily fresh fish is a must. We are defiantly going back & next time book both cottages as it will be nice to take my parents there. Anyone booking this place wonât be disappointed, absolutely perfect for 2 adults & 2 dogs

Apple Tree Cottage was beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean - the perfect hideaway from the world, which was just what we were looking for.
The hot tub was private and added a touch of luxury. The garden was lovely, the apple tree beautiful. The bed was enormous and so comfy, the bedding and soft furnishings were excellent quality. The kitchen was the perfect cosy cottage kitchen, with the range and the round table. All the fixtures and fittings were high quality. The village of Gweek is lovely, and the local shop is a real hub and has everything you could need, with friendly staff. Our top local visits were Mullion Cove, a circular walk from gorgeous Helford to Dennis Head and Frenchmanâs Creek, St Michaelâs Mount and Minack Theatre. And we absolutely recommend the pasties and sausage rolls from nearby Gear Farm - best ever!! We loved every minute of our autumn break in the rugged Cornish countryside of the Lizard Peninsula and hope to be back one day. Thank you to the owners of Apple Tree Cottage for a wonderful stay.

The property was a good base to explore the lizard as we have been here a few times.
The property was clean but not as comfortable as others we have stayed in. The bathroom had a few problems. The toilet pipes leaked spilling over onto the floor which was not pleasant especially in the earlier hours if the toilet was used as you got wet feet. Not great at 2am in the morning. There was a tin paint kettle at the back of the toilet so the owner new this already. The shower water took a long time to go down. This would bring the remains back up onto the shower floor. This was unpleasant as we had to constantly clean this. There were no wardrobes just a bookcase shelf and two bedside cabinets. The road is quite dangerous as you have to back in to the property on a bend. If the traffic is moving fast this could be a big problem. Lovely friendly dog and the owner was pleasant. All in all it was a good holiday.
