What our customers say about their holidays

    • Richard - Verified booking

Our stay at Wild Acres was a blend of beautiful moments and significant disappointments.

While the property itself is situated in a fantastic location, certain factors dampened our overall experience, some of which seemed easily avoidable. On a positive note, Wild Acres boasts a great location that made our stay memorable. We appreciated the efforts made by our hosts to rectify issues as they arose, demonstrating their dedication to creating a pleasant experience for us. However, our arrival was marked by the absence of a number of amenities that were promised in the listing (and I notice that the listing has not been amended since). It was disheartening, to say the least, as we had specifically chosen this holiday home for a special family celebration. The most striking discrepancy was the external kitchen - while the listing explicitly mentioned a sink, fridge, dishwasher, and barbecue, we found only a sink on our arrival. The hosts did provide disposable BBQs later, but the missed opportunity to cook outdoors and enjoy the stunning terrace view over our first two days was a disappointment. Further, the shortage of an outside fridge was exacerbated by the inadequate size and missing shelves of the inside fridge, which limited our capacity to store our cold items effectively. Apart from this, there were minor frustrations such as an unexpected shortage of wine glasses - for a five-bedroom house, it's quite odd to initially only provide five wine glasses. Even though more were delivered later, it would have been preferable to have the appropriate amount from the beginning. Additionally, our request for a stair gate, made prior to our arrival, was unfulfilled. We also encountered maintenance issues such as a broken plug and lock in the bathrooms - issues that were rectified later, but marred our initial experience. Overall, we had a great time at the property but felt that we did not get what we had paid for.

Had a lovely week at Polurrian House with family last week, the facilities were great and the location is stunning.

So many local, beautiful beaches, walks and places to visit. You can watch the cows at the local farm from the balcony coming out in the morning and coming back to bed late afternoon which is nice. The house is on a sort of little complex with 3/4 other houses either occupied by their individual owners or by other people on holiday. The house has 3 good sized rooms with ensuites, and 1 with no ensuite but is next door to a bathroom. The house is stated as having a secure garden for dogs, and it is fully fenced, however, if you have a dog smaller than a small beagle size there is a possibility they will get through one side of the fence into the next doors garden. You have access to 3 car spaces (number 3, the garage behind it and the space between them). The description stated 2 spaces when we booked, but in the documentation the house has inside it mentions these 3 spaces. The house in general was spotless, cleaned to a very high standard and lovely welcome gifts provided when we arrived. A few things to note for the servicing team/owner that if we don't mention you may not know about, is that the bedroom door downstairs to the room without an ensuite, once you shut that door, you will struggle to get out of it without an almighty tug. It needs shaving slightly to fit well. Also the same for the downstairs bedroom with single beds, the ensuite door does not shut at all for the same reason. We couldn't find a light switch that worked either the front or back garden lights, so using the hot tub after dark was a bit hard, probably just the bulbs needing changing. Other than those easy fixes, a great holiday home, highly recommended

Harvey’s House was the perfect place to retreat to.

We received a very warm and friendly welcome from Jenna and Nigel, with a delicious cream tea and a hot hot tub ready. Perfect! Harvey’s house is a very comfortable and cosy place to stay. Its new decor and furnishings have been thoughtfully and joyfully created for this new venture with everything you could possibly need from air fryer, dog paw cleaning cups, to sheep design toilet roll holder!! The Christmas decorations were a beautiful touch too. There are three spacious bedrooms each with its own decor theme. The open plan living space works well with a beautiful outlook on to the garden. The hot tub is AMAZING, strong jets, pretty coloured LED lights. It was so relaxing and special to be outside in all weathers with the moon and stars above, in between the wind and rain. The weather didn’t matter! It was quite easy to get the tub back to temperature each day. Jenna and Nigel were very responsive to our questions and any issues were sorted promptly. Harveys House is quiet and private, located in its own woodland garden bordered by a river. Woodland walks from the house made it a perfect place for us and our two four-leggeds. All in all this has been a perfect place for our short winter break. Thank you Jenna and Nigel for all the work you have put into making this such a lovely homely place. We wish you well on this new venture. We definitely want to return again soon and will highly recommend Harvey’s House to friends and family. N.B Please read the directions carefully and don’t follow the SAT NAV and end up having to turn round in a neighbour’s garden!!

Very nice house, and cleaned immaculately.

Lovely linens on the beds, big fluffy towels. Slept like babies. Kitchen is very well stocked , with lots of pans and pots, plates .etc Big dishwasher was a big help. Some of the doors stick but with a bit of a push they'll give. The garden and outside area is amazing. Nice outside furniture and a balcony that you can see the sea from. Hottub was lovely and toasty too. Sadly the neighbour did put a slight downer on the holiday. We had just got our bags in and he knocked in, asking us to move our cars ASAP, as it was blocking his garage. As you look at the property, it was the neighbour on the right. Also mentioned that we "shouldn't be loud in the hottub, or up late with loud music" Not Polurrian House owners fault, the property is lovely. One thing I will say is the fences in the back garden are very low. Our dog cleared them no problem. If you have an escapologist dog would advise long line. TV in living room is on a really good swivel bracket and can move to any position, and is 4k. Really glad I took my PS5 down with me. Very nice place. Would recommend.

    • Simon - Verified booking

The property was lovely - very clean and well maintained and had top of the range white goods.

It was comfortable and well laid out. I do however have a couple of criticisms. Firstly I had requested that the two single beds were made up into a double, as there was going to be two couples staying. This had not been done and there was no way of contacting the owners to get this changed. I don’t know if this was a breakdown in communication between Sykes Cottages and the owner, or what but it was frustrating. Secondly, the literature states that fuel for the wood burner would be provided - it wasn’t. Thirdly, the literature in the cottage says we should use our own towels to use the hot tub but online it states that all towels are included. We did not take any of our own towels. Finally, the literature in the cottage states that the hot tub is cleaned out after every booking - it clearly wasn’t because there was sand in the bottom of the tub. These are only minor issues but if the owners state that things are done and provided, it would be nice if that was the case.
