On arrival we found that the majority of downstairs lighting didnt work, my husband called the contact number around 6.
30pm and she said she was going to call us, but had not. She said she would get an electrician in so await a call about access. This call nor an electrician never materialised. We left the keys in the key lock when we left the property daily which was an annoyance as it was low down and a fiddle to use. Luckly there were enough lamps to allow general usage of the lounge and dining area. Using the downstairs toilet in the evening was not as easy. Also the door knob to this facility almost fell off everytime it was used. The upstairs doors squeaked enough to disturb our friends in the en suite room as we used the bathroom during the night from our bedroom. I found a cracked glass in the cupboard, so luck that the kitchen lights still worked. The kettle had lost its whistle and if left unsupervised would have boiled dry, my husband left a note to say this for the cleaner. (Which we appreciate is separate from Sykes. ) The garden had a lovely south facing aspect, but there were no comfortable chairs nor shade provided for its use. There was a picnic bench for four and two seat chair, neither adequate for comfortable reading etc. Which was a shame as the weather was glorious. I had read that we should bring COVID-19 precautions ourselves, but was disappointed that none at all were provided, not even a gel for entry to the property. The in house seating for four was comfortable and spacious. There was plenty of crockery, cutlery and towels. The position of the house only a short stroll into West Bay was ideal, with lots to see and do within the locality. Overall, we were comfortable, and I apprieciate the price increases due to the current situation, but felt for the price it was not to the standard I expected.

We had a good week in Burton Bradstock, the weather was kind and the cottage is well situated with excellent views.
However, we do have to make some comments in regard to your listing and description (some in our opinion very important) Kitchen - it is rather tiny and dysfunctional with a large fridge freezer on the opposite wall to the sink leaving a space no more than 24 inches â not enough room for more than 1 person in the kitchen at a time. For 4 adults there really werenât enough large saucepans and we donât believe that 4 mugs and 3 cups and saucers and a teapot for 3 mugs is adequate, especially with the use of a dishwasher. We couldnât find glasses that would suit an aperitive or morning fruit juice unless you count the 3 coke glasses Your description clearly states that the property is an annexe. This fails to mention that the ownerâs property is separated by a pair of internal glazed doors. It doesnât give one adequate privacy, and the fact that this is not mentioned is misleading at best. Your description states there is an upstairs bedroom which is in fact a mezzanine room with open access to the lounge area leaving no adequate privacy for the occupants, and your description is again misleading Finally, we read in a review somewhere that the owners were friendly and approachable. This was not our experience. We did not receive the courtesy of a call to see if everything was OK, and the 2 times we saw the lady of the house in the garden it was really just a brief âhelloâ. Not good enough in our opinion if you are renting your property and live in the adjoining accommodation. In the circumstance our belief is that the rental cost is not value for money.

The first thing to say is that this is a lovely, extremely well equipped cottage within a short walk to the beach, with other lovely walks nearby.
There is, of course, a but.......don't be lulled into thinking "it's a village, how much traffic can there be"! Parking and the traffic noise are a nightmare. Not only is the cottage right on the road running through Burton Bradstock, it is also where the road narrows allowing only one car through. Subsequently you have cars and lorries outside the window idling in a queue, or revving up to rush through. Traffic noise can start early, and two of the three bedrooms are at the front of the house and are unsuitable for light sleepers. Even those of us who normally slept well were woken early (we are talking 5.30 one morning and certainly by 7.00). As the cottage is right on the road, trying to get to the other side of the road where the pavement is can be tricky and time consuming, particular with dogs (equally I can imagine with young children). I looked for Donkey Lane where one site said to park and frankly this is illusionary at best, a narrow lane for single file traffic. Parking on roads nearby was a bit hit and miss and, I suspect during holiday season a parking space would be a rare find. The garden is lovely but you do have to pass the kitchen window and lounge of the cottage next door which feels a little odd, particularly at night when taking the dogs out for a last wee. Despite the lovely cottage I would not book again, and neither would any one else who stayed with me. Lack of sleep and parking do not over ride the plus points of the cottage itself.

Pros: very competitive pricing.
Great location for fit walkers. Some superb eateries and stunning views within a 15-30 min walk. Again- the views were gorgeous especially in the evening. One word- SUNSETS! Accommodation was very clean, fully functional and thoughtfully appointed (although we had to buy a knife for cooking, which we left behind.) Lovely views and the sounds of actual doves. Cons: a bit of road noise and a rather fast road to pull out onto. Ideally driving instructions would put the name of the main house rather than The Doves- however I recognised the house from the photos. Would recommend interior privacy drapes on the french doors separating the Doves from the main house. It was unsettling to not have control over that, especially right next to our bedroom. They would also provide more sound insulation. It wasnât loud, but you could just hear the TV at night and that made it feel a little too close. The only other issue we had was that the double bed was just a tad too small and too soft, and to be honest we didnât sleep well at all because of it. Admittedly we are used to a bigger bed. All in all though, this worked well for a family of four who did a fair amount of cooking and some laundry. It was very clean, very quaint, very âDorsetâ with unique features and beautiful views. The owners seemed friendly yet gave us our space. Iâd go again for a weekend in a heartbeat.

Loved this beautiful cottage and found it very comfortable, clean and warm.
It had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. Comfortable beds and excellent long-deep bath and great shower. A short and relatively easy walk to the wonderful local beach (and excellent beach cafe) plus plenty of other walks from the village along the river or on the cliffs. Two lovely pubs for eating out within just a few paces, plus a handy village store and post office. As per other reviews, yes the road outside the property is busy at peak times, but not enough that it bothered us. The front door opens directly onto the road, so great care needs to be taken especially with young children or dogs, but there is a latch gate outside front door. Didn't have any problems finding a parking space on the street near the cottage. Lovely garden and raised decking with seating, was secure, (but I and our dog were surprised by the gardeners being in the garden one day). It might be helpful if the gardener could knock to just let guests know he's there? But all in all a fantastic place to stay and we'd definitely recommend it.
