What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mrs Manson-Sawko - Verified booking

The best aspect of this property is its location: a sea view, close the shop and local pub and restaurant. Location cannot be faulted and we have had a very nice 2w stay in Northumberland using this place as a base for daily excursions. We saw puffins, pod of dolphins, visited historical sites, had great walks and even had a few really nice beach days. However, I sadly cannot recommend the cottage nor the service we have received. The property appeared to us a little run down with stains on walls present in most rooms and blistering wallpaper in others. There were initially problems with the boiler which got fixed during our stay, but there were also broken blinds which meant that it was difficult to get a good night sleep with sunrise being early in Summer. The latter wasn't fixed and after a few attempts to bring to agency attention, I gave up. The labelling around the house and the manuals for the property have not been reviewed for some time. I am really saddened having to write this as the property has an amazing potential as a holiday let and I wish well to tourism business in this area as it's a very remarkable place having something to offer for almost everyone. There's nothing original nor cottage about this Original Cottage offering. Topcliffe was a semidetached house that clearly has seen better days. I think particularly tourists from outside of the UK may find it very disappointing but perhaps its symptomatic of how unaffordable housing and house maintenance has become in the UK. For comparison, within the last 4 years, I visited Northumberland staying Youth Hostel Association and considering the price tag had a much better experience and received a far more caring service. This is what I would still recommend though I appreciate it may not be appropriate for every family.

What a lovely cottage, and in a very lovely location too. We are a fairly large family group (grandparents, uncles, parents and two children) and there was plenty of space for all eight of us to be very comfortable in the house. The kitchen was very well equipped and it was lovely that we could eat outside at the table in the back yard when the weather was nice. We were really impressed with how well set-up the cottage was for little ones too, with a cot and high chair provided, and plenty of toys, games and books to keep them entertained. The house looked lovely; there was space for everyone to sit on a comfy sofa in the lounge or round the huge table in the kitchen and it was nice to have the two bathrooms when everyone wanted a shower at the same time after swimming in the sea. It was also lovely to have a choice of beaches to walk to (the near one for exploring rock pools; the slightly further one for a day in the dunes and playing on the sand and in the sea). Lots of nice little touches made us extra comfortable (for example there was milk in the fridge when we arrived so we could make a cuppa before going out to the shops). Everyone had a great time and we'd love to come again one day!

We stayed in Coble cottage for the week from 13th Aug 2016. We were blessed with fabulous weather. We were 3 families, 2 of which had young children. 3 of the children shared the bunk bedded room, which was fine if a little small and a little bit hot. The 2 bathrooms were fine and the towels provided were lovely and soft. The beds were comfortable and the linen was of good quality. The living area was more than ample for our families, it was comfortable and spacious. There was plenty of DVDs particularly for the children. The kitchen was very very well equipped, however because of the size of the table, sometimes it was a bit of a squash. The toys and games provided for the children were a lovely touch, the games were in good condition too. The outside space at the rear of the property was nice for a family bbq. The location of the property is excellent with lovely walks from the door and it's very handy for the Craster Arms next door (you cannot hear any noise from the pub). All in all I would recommend this property, in fact I already have!

Stayed at Coble cottage with my husband, four children and mother in law who is a wheelchair user. It was a lovely house which was our base for a week..Very comfortable.. lots of room and amienties. The only tiny less than positive comment I can make is with regard to the washer/dryer. I couldn't find a dryer only option in the instruction manual. It appeared to me and my husband too, that dryer was only available for use if selected as part of the washing cycle and this cycle appeared to take 4 hours and 25 minutes in total which seems excessive to me. I'd suggest if dryer only option is available perhaps it could be displayed somewhere for guest use either in the information folder or close to the machine itself...would also possibly cut down on electricity bills. Only a small thing.. it did not spoil our stay at al. Would definitely come back here again. Many thanks.

A beautiful, modern, clean and tastefully decorated cottage which met our every need, especially where the children were concerned - the abundance of board games and DVD's plus the bunk bed made my 4 year old daughter very happy whilst every need of my 1 year old son was catered for with a highchair, large cot, blankets, black out blind, plug in light etc. Bed guards were even available in case we needed them. Storage space was plentiful and the kitchen very well equipped. The welcome bottle of wine was a lovely gesture and the milk, tea bags etc. were much appreciated after a 4 hour drive from Manchester especially as our supermarket shop wasn't due to arrive until an hour after check-in. The service from Stay Northumbria was fantastic in the lead up to our stay and extra parking spaces were made available at our request. Faultless.
