This is house was perfect for us and had many great qualities.
The kitchen area into dining room has been beautifully done and was a great gathering place (especially since the conservatory was closely joined and a fabulous place to sit and watch the world go by). The chairs at the island felt unsafe and my elderly parents became scared to sit on them as they wobbled and creaked- maybe replacing them would be wise before someone has an accident. The only downside of this house was the cleanlinessâ¦â¦ this is our 9th visit to the area so have been in many different houses. Itâs clear that a company is paid to come in and clean for next visitors-Iâm suspecting they are not given enough time to properly clean but either way things should be checked more regularly. Plastic shower/bath mats were black with moald (something could be easily fixed with a soak in a bleach filled sink), shower in general had a build up of black and some corners of rooms were very dusty and dirty. These are things that maybe donât need done weekly but definitely need done more regularly than they are being done. Beds were very comfy but I was extremely shocked to see the mattress was covered with only one sheet-no mattress protectors or even double sheets (which will very quickly mean replacement of mattress)â¦â¦not nice when many people are visiting and sleeping on them. Also the bush at the front gate was over grown so much that you could barely get through on to the path which was particularly tough for my elderly dad who isnât steady on his feet and struggled more than the rest of us to come through gate â¦.. I did notice a gardener who came to cut grass so maybe should be looking at other areas of garden too! I do have photos of all these things but see there is no option to do this here. This all sounds negative but I have to add that we would use this house again and thoroughly enjoyed our stay (a bit of dirt didnât kill anyone)â¦â¦ itâs just after so many stays in different houses itâs sad to see time not being spent on maintaining them to the best of standards. It almost gives the impression that such holiday homes are just a money making scheme for owners and that they donât care-which I genuinely donât think can be true of all.

The propertyâs location is very good.
The kitchen is well equipped. The living and dining areas are comfortable - the sofas could do with clean and spruce up. Arrived at the property not aware that the hot water had been switched off and the water was stone cold. Only found this out when we went to run a bath for the children. Iâm all for energy saving but a notice (a bit more apparent than the section in the house information folder) would have been appreciated. The driveway is very small and suitable for one car only. You can park on the grass verge opposite the property, however that might get tricky in peak season as people visiting the area to walk on the beach park there too. There is a notice telling guests to ensure their vehicle parked on the drive is not obstructing the bins early on Weds morning so that they can be emptied and threatening a significant charge. We complied, only for bin not to be emptied anyway! Bedrooms well presented, however the bed in the room with the veranda was the most uncomfortable bed we have ever slept on in holiday accommodation. We reported this, but never received a response from Sykes. The shower in the room with the bath did not produce any hot water at all, so those in our party sleeping in that room had to use the shower in the twin bedroom. Toilet in same room moved when sat on. The garden is pleasant and sunny - a washing line would have been helpful and would have saved energy by not using the tumble dryer. We requested a stair gate but were told there was not one available. When we got to the property there was one in the upstairs cupboard but couldnât be used as some of the fixings were missing. We requested that the travel cot was put up in the twin room but when we arrived we had to search and find it in a cupboard. We requested a high chair - we found that in the utility covered in dust so it needed cleaning before use. Wi-Fi was good. So overall my view is that you are paying a premium price for the location but property needs some tlc. Donât get me wrong, our party was mainly comfortable and we had a lovely holiday but just felt the whole overall experience was a bit below par.

We have booked with Original Cottages and stayed at the property in Tamarin Close 3 years running now. The location of the property, its size and bathrooms really work for us as a 3 generation family and the proximity to the beach is a real draw for what has become our annual seaside holiday. When we first came to the property in 2020 everyone was just relieved to be able to get away after the first lockdown due to the Covid pandemic. We have had great times in the property and are likely to book it again for next year. I would like to make a few comments on the fittings and equipment at the property however, as it is marketed as a luxury property and some of features do not live up to this. When we first came in 2020 there was no wardrobe or hanging space in any of the bedrooms. This has been rectified with one wardrobe in the top bedroom since 2021. It does feel that some of the furniture has been lifted from a spare room somewhere, with old chairs and mismatched bedroom furniture as well as the very low bed in the double bedroom on the first floor. The bedding is fairly lumpy with random covers added in. The blinds/curtains are very thin and do not keep the rooms dark, which when you have small children is not ideal in the summer. We bring our own blackout blind for the children's room., but I would expect more of a hotel style curtain or blind to keep the rooms dark. Finally, some of the kitchen utensils are old and tatty, the kitchen scales are broken and there is a lack of oven dishes. Whilst this may seem like nit picking, when the price for a week's stay at the property is in excess of £2000 I would expect smarter fittings and equipment than there currently are. I do accept that the cost for up to 8 people is fair and I acknowledge that the cost of everything is increasing, but to enhance the 'home from home' feel that self-catering holidays are marketed on now I would like to see some improvements regarding the above points.

A nice property which was very comfortable for our family group of 5 adults, 1 infant and 3 dogs.
We visited slightly out of season, in mid March, so itâs nice to report that the house warmed up very quickly when the central heating was switched on. Very handy garage space with all the white goods/utilities youâd need. There was also a really nice 2nd floor living room which was a relaxing place to sit with our dogs and look out of the huge window. The garden was totally enclosed and secure which was great because our dogs are expert escapologists! The house is part of a new âishâ estate and it felt like at least 80% of the homes were holiday properties. Out of season it was quiet. The beach is only 3 minutes walk away via the garden back gate and a âsecretâ footpath. Beadnell Beach itself is a beautiful curved bay with a small picturesque harbour. If we had to nit pick, the TV on the wall in the living room couldâve done with being mounted on an extendable, adjustable bracket as, without it, only 2 or 3 people could watch it comfortably. Itâs only a minor observation though.

The house was in an excellent location just a few minutes walk from beadnell Bay.
The accomodation was spacious and very well equipped. The reason we have given it a 3 star and not a 4 star was due to the acrid smell on the second floor which made for an overall unpleasant experience. We were called an hour before check in to say that there had been a leak and whilst the leak had been fixed, there was a stain on one of the bedroom ceilings. When we arrived the carpet in the top bedroom was wet through as was the ceiling of the room below. There was a very strong smell which got worse as the week went on. To such an extent that we had to sleep with the velux windows wide open each night. We were only able to do this as we were blessed with good weather, had it been raining, we would have been forced to close the windows and the smell room would have been unbearable. Such a shame as I think this would have been a very comfortable stay if it were not for the smell. We would advise to check this issue has been rectified before booking .
