    Richmond Holiday Cottages

Richmond, North Yorkshire, is often referred to as the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales - and it's not hard to see why. It's situated on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is close to the likes of the River Swale, Easby Abbey, and Richmond Castle. Over the years, it's inspired many painters, poets and authors and hundreds of holidaymakers have found a place in their heart for the historic market town of Richmond too.

Richmond holiday cottages really are something special. Think 18th century houses, Georgian townhouses perched on the cobbled market square and grade II listed stone built properties. Of course, many of them come with family friendly amenities like open plan living areas, games rooms, large gardens, private parking and even hot tubs! In fact, the Georgian architecture of this town is just one thing that is sure to impress you as, inside, the accommodation gets even better.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Annette - Verified booking

We spent a weekend at "The Stang Hideaway" in August, for a relaxing 3-night stay with my partner and our little dog.

The views were gorgeous, and the location was as peaceful as a library on a snowy day. But there were a few surprises that gave us a good laugh! First off, the wine cooler was ice-cold—unlike the fridge, which was warm enough to double as a sauna . If you’re planning to brew some coffee, don't forget to bring your own coffee pods; the same goes for dishwasher tablets as there was non available and the free washing up liquid was limited to a very small bottle (use sparingly). The "fully equipped" kitchen was a bit like a game of culinary hide-and-seek, with basic items playing hard to get. And if you’re using the breakfast bar or that “sumptuous” sofa, be prepared to get very close to your partner—like, "hope-you-really-love-each-other" close, perfect if your on a romantic break! Now, let’s talk Wi-Fi. Remember the days of dial-up internet? If you’re feeling nostalgic, you’re in luck—this Wi-Fi will take you right back to the 90s with its charmingly slow speeds which can cause the TV to frequently show the circle of death when it tries to catch up, perhaps it was intentional to create a romantic atmosphere. The outside decking is lovely, but it could use a gate to be truly dog-friendly. And don't be surprised if you step outside to find a crowd in the treehouse—it’s open to everyone on the park, so you might end up with an audience for your morning coffee or romantic sunset. All in all, it was clean and the tranquility was delightful, the stay didn’t quite match up to the price given there’s a lot of competition in the area. Here’s hoping for some improvements in the future, but hey, we still enjoyed the peace and quiet and lovely views!

The property is beautiful and very clean!

!! The bathroom is gorgeous and the bathtub is a key feature. I loved having the bathroom door open to the outside overlooking the wheat field while soaking in the tub. Bed was very comfortable. Only a couple of things that need a little work. The owners would benefit from staying, cooking and cleaning there for a few days as there are some essentials missing such as dishcloths, dish rack to dry dishes, dish washer tablets and we may have needed more than one roll of loo roll. It didn’t hinder our stay too much, but it lost a bit of that luxury feel someone has worked hard to make. The other thing is, the photos are a little deceptive and don’t show you are attached to a caravan park at the back. It’s still secluded and very quite but attached to a caravan park that appears to hold people’s mobile caravans. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend but would encourage the owners to look at little essentials.

      Cute 1 bedroom cottage.

Very relaxing chilled out break had. Cottage was well equipped for our needs, really comfy bed, good TV with fire stick access to streaming channels. Great walk in shower (only issue was water drainage poor until husband unclogged drain). Freezer section on fridge - door not closing properly (probably needs defrosting). Instruction needed for cooker dials as not clear what symbols meant - had to google in order to figure out to use oven. Nice enclosed courtyard to sit out weather permitting. Visits to barnard castle, Eppleby, staindrop, high force, gainford, romalkirk, Middleton in teesdale, eggleston, ovington and Hatton magna. All in all a relaxing break - would return for peace and calmness.

It was a shame the property didn't have all features working yet we were not offered any reimbursement or alternative for this.

The property needs some attention with it's supplies to keep up with other properties. For example it only had one wine glass, a warm fridge, no washing up liquid, no hand towel, Netflix and prime log ins do not work etc. It would be helpful to note it is more dog tolerant than friendly. There's no gate on the balcony or around the property, there is very close neighbours and is on a car parking area. No doggy bowls. People use the tower as it isn't listed as private and kept setting our dog off with strangers rummaging around Etc Positives is it's very quiet and easy access to get in the lodge, clean and the most amazing comfy pillows.

Pheasant Cottage is lovely, hence our 2nd visit!

. We love it's remote location with all the walks from the doorstep, the wildlife (had 2 grouse in the garden!) and the night skies are amazing. Although remote, it's not far down to Reeth or Richmond for provisions and you can easily get around the Dales by car to visit other locations. We did a lovely circular walk from Keld to Muker. We last visited in May so this was the first time we had used the coal fire. It made the cottage lovely and warm and so cozy on a dark night. We cooked each night in the kitchen which is well equipped. Would recommend to anyone wanting a cozy cottage to get away from the stress of everyday life.
