"The cottage and the owner were a delight. The cottage was so well finished and equipped that it felt more like staying at a home than a holiday rental. It was very well suited to dogs with wooden floors downstairs and a good sized balcony, not to mention the hosepipe at the bottom of the entrance stairway. Cotton linen, feather duvets, a choice of feather or synthetic pillows and good towels were a plus too.We are lucky enough to live in a very quiet, rural location: this felt like a home from home. Beautifully peaceful.I had reservations when booking about the lack of garden, but the dogs were happy with a quick trip down the lane when necessary and we spent all day walking so there were no complaints from our canine companions. There is a wonderful, traditional Devon pub a ten minute walk away and we didn't feel like we had to drive anywhere. Coincidentally we did find that all of our walks seemed to end at the pub. A map of Dartmoor was useful; there is free roaming on Dartmoor so you can just wander without the need for a walking book. There is also very helpfully a map provided on the wall of the cottage. The shower room is compact but so cleverly designed that it was not a problem. I had concerns about previous comments regarding space, especially as we are a tall family, but we will definitely return. We came home much more rested than we would normally expect after a week off. Thanks Mel!"

"A very charming little cottage, with parking and a garden. Sampford Courtenay is ideally situated for exploring. The downside to the cottage is that it is on a crossroads and the traffic noise is incessant night and day. We appreciate it's hay making time but numerous lorries and tankers pass through there. Sadly that would stop us returning. The ground floor living area is lovely and provides everything you need. However there were two problems upstairs. In the smaller bedroom the mattress needs replacing, it had a huge dip in the middle, which was aggravated by the sloping floorboards, we tried turning it over but it was still the same, so did not provide support or a comfortable nights sleep. In the main bedroom the floorboards slope in all sorts of directions but the biggest problem is that there is a step up in the middle of the room which is fine during the day but when dark is easy to forget, and my husband tripped over it but luckily wasn't injured. Other guests have mentioned it and a danger tape has been stuck on it but as previously suggested, if the floor was levelled with a step at the door to the bedroom the problem would be resolved."

"Oak cottage is an ideal retreat from the hustle and bustle of inner city life. The cottage is tastefully decorated offering a perfect home from home feel with an excellent kitchen and exceptionally comfortable beds. The enclosed garden is perfect for dogs and has the added bonus of an array of birdlife. Most nights we fell asleep to the hooting of owls and awoke to woodpeckers. Although very remote it did not 'feel' isolated, in fact, the property was so comfortable and comforting 'like your favourite blanket'. The cleanliness and warm welcome from Maria was lovely - the scones were a delicious welcome gift washed down with a perfect cuppa. The ponds on the property and the field offered a quick walk and run for the dog before lying down in front of the wood burner for the night. If you want a perfect getaway I would highly recommend a visit. We will definitely return."

"This is a bit like telling everyone about a ‘short cut’ but I must be honest as I know people really value reviews these days. This is an absolutely outstanding holiday let. Great location, fantastically thought through by Mel the owner to provide a genuine home from home experience. I jest not when I say even the loo paper is fantastic quality! If you want to cook you want for nothing with the equipment provided all of very high standard. Bedding is wonderful and slept no problem from day one.The only minor drawback is the shower is fairly small but perfectly adequate for most. It’s a Mira shower by the way no cheap tat here.We cannot wait to return."

"We had a lovely welcome from Claire when we arrived, and she provided us with a welcoming pack in the cottage. The cottage was spotless and very homely, and the shower was great. There was every thing that we needed including a hair dryer. we had a medical emergency late at night and Claire was straight round phoning for the paramedic and staying with us the whole time. You can walk your dog a couple of hundred yards away at the local cemetery which is very handy. The cottage makes a great little base to enjoy the local area. We certainly recommend using the cottage. Well done Claire!."
