What our customers say about their holidays

    • William - Verified booking

The Hayloft is an amazing beautiful place.

We were met by Peter who showed us to The Hayloft, when we walked in we were amazed at how lovely the place was. This is a barn conversion which has been done to the highest standards, the equipment in the Hayloft are all high quality and there is everything you require, right down to things like dog leads and towels for your dogs. There is lovely log burner to sit next to on cooler nights. The views from almost every window over the lovely Dartmoor countryside are outstanding,on the only day we had rain, just for a few hours,we spent the time just looking out the windows, great, who needs to watch television when you can just look at beauty out of your window?Astrid the owner was lovely, she has gone to the trouble of making a list of walks in the area, one for each day,she is very informative about the area and is very approachable for places to visit etc. We traveled with two dogs and they absolutely loved it,either in the garden or the many woodland walks from the property up onto the moors or down to the rivers all beautiful. This is by far the best holiday cottage we have ever stopped at and hope to return soon. My only regret is I hadn’t found this place twenty years ago when I was young enough to do more of the splendid walks in the area. If ever a property deserves more than 5 stars, then this is it. Loved it

From the moment that we arrived we were totally delighted with the setting of The Hayloft and the welcome we received from Astrid.

The property is in a stunning location, so very quiet, with lots of brilliant walks on the doorstep. There's a pub just 5 minutes away where we received a warm welcome and enjoyed a great Sunday roast! The Hayloft is really well equipped, very comfortable and exceptionally clean. We lit the log burner every evening with logs generously provided by the owner. We were a party of 4 adults and one dog and the layout was just brilliant, all on one floor, so sociable whether we were cooking, reading or chilling out watching a film on the smart TV. Each of the 3 bedrooms were en-suite (one with a lovely bath and the other two with showers). The only suggestions we would like to make (as we like to stay home and cook from time to time) would be for a large non-stick frying pan with a lid which can be used for so many dishes plus a couple of different size options on casserole dishes, that's all!! The views of the surrounding countryside are beautiful. We will definitely be returning next year!

We had a fantastic stay at the Hayloft.

It was even more spacious than we expected and very well equipped. There were plenty of toys for the kids (which they loved) and lots of useful kitchen equipment that you don't always find in a cottage rental. We like to cook on holiday so found this very useful. The rooms were lovely and comfortable and everything was clean and tidy. The location of the cottage was also fantastic, right next to the wood, lovely pub nearby (The Kestor) and we did a walk to Lustleigh which was wonderful (The Cleave was brilliant and in idyllic setting). Astrid was very welcoming and nothing was any trouble, I would recommend this cottage to anyone whether it is a group of friends or a family. Dartmoor is a very beautiful area, some of the moorland is impressively vast and bare but there are also lush woodlands (right from the door!) and the Tors nearby are a definite must to visit, especially Hounds Tor. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

This was our 3rd visit in six years to the Hayloft barn.

This on its own shows this is a great place to have a family holiday, with or without a dog. The owners are 5* Hosts and are always on hand if needed. They have gave us a warm welcome ever time we have arrived, and we have always been sad to leave. The barn is well equipped and very clean. The beds, towels and lining are clean and comfortable. The 3 bathrooms are modern, and we have never had problems with hot water. The barn is 5 minute walk to the local pub for drinks and hot food. Their is some nice walks and bike rides that can be challenging at times. We was a party of 6 and one dog. Age group 48 to 74. I would highly recommend this host and place and for sure we will be going back again one day.

    • Heather - Verified booking

We had a wonderful week at The Hayloft.

Astrid and Peter were excellent hosts, showing us around the property, pointing out the many walks straight from the door and then leaving us alone to enjoy it! Even on the one day when it rained nearly all day we were happy with the woodburner alight and a jigsaw to complete. While the brochure says that the private garden is through the owners' garden (something we were a little concerned about) there is another way in that does not intrude on the owners' privacy at all, although they are such friendly and thoughtful people I doubt they would have minded. All in all, a stunning property in a stunning location!
