" ! My husband and I just spent a glorious week at this very charming, very comfortable cottage in the beautiful little town of Bampton. Conveniently located in the heart of The Cotswolds, Bampton is a small almost untouched village. Because of its originality and period charm, it has been used throughout the filming as downtown ‘Downton’ in the hit series Downton Abbey. St. Mary’s church, Mrs. Crowley’s house, the library, it’s all there, A wonderful map called the Downton Mile has been created for visitors. It takes you on a wonderful walking tour of Bampton where there is so much to see beyond DA in this wonderful town brimming with history. A short walk from Sunnyside Cottage and you are in the heart of Bampton This treasure of a house is more than 200 years old. However, it has been recently renovated with an updated well stocked kitchen, new bathrooms and more. My husband and I were in the upstairs master bedroom with a very large brand new attached bath with a large roomy shower. Tons of closet space. Very comfortable king size bed. We didn’t use it but there is also a lovely downstairs king size bedroom also with its own very nice bathroom. The entire house has been professionally redecorated, top to bottom with beautiful period furnishings as well as new comfortable seating and carpeting. Easy to use fireplace that was efficient and started up easily. We were there in early May so we were lucky enough to experience an explosion of blooms and greenery in the perfectly maintained lush garden. A very thorough large binder has been made for guests filled with maps of surrounding towns, menus of local restaurants, brochures of various attractions and more will more than meet the need of any visitor regardless of their interests. My only regret is that we had to inevitably leave! We do hope to return here someday as there is much we would like see that we couldn’t fit in this trip but we will feel at home and happy returning to Sunnyside Cottage and The beloved town of Bampton. "We have given a low overall rating despite the higher scores in the other categories because we were very disappointed on our arrival and first evening at the cottage. When we arrived the cottage was cold as there was no heating on and an alarm was sounding. We found the central heating controller and turned the heating on but surely this should have been done for our arrival; it was November! Then we tried to have a hot drink only to discover there was no cold water to fill the kettle. After some searching we found a little notice in the kitchen window saying that if no cold water had been run for 24 hours then an anti flood device would cut it off and an alarm would be sounding! We managed to find the device and reset it and then we had running cold water.Later in the evening we wanted to shower but the water was cold, despite it being an electric shower. After a bit of investigation we noticed it had two water feed pipes, not one as with most electric showers. We then realised it must run off the hot water tank and when we looked we found that the hot water was switched off altogether so we had to wait around two hours for the water to heat up so we could shower! To say we were a little annoyed and made to feel unwelcome on our arrival was an understatement. We holiday in the Lake District at this time every year and usually the cottages are warm and cosy when we arrive, often with a welcome gift and the fire lit. This was certainly not the case with Mews Cottage! The Comfort and Equipment score would be higher if the heating was better in the conservatory. The rest of the cottage was fine but this was woefully inadequate."

"The cottage has been modernised in the recent past and has a lovely big kitchen and lounge. There is plenty of room for 6 people and a good supply of towels, bedding and kitchen equipment. The welcome basket of goodies was a nice touch. However, it would have been helpful to have a Conn Cottage sign which would have made finding the property easier. Car parking is not available near the cottage as advertised in the brochure but the proprietor of the local shop over the bridge let us use his car park for unloading and loading and then we had to drive 300 yards or so and leave the cars in the car park at the village hall. Not easy with a baby and two dogs! The main problem for us was that the back garden is not secure and needs a garden gate erecting to protect dogs and children from the brook at the front of the property. The gardens need sprucing up as they are overgrown and untidy with trees blocking the view of the mountains at the back , The picnic table is grubby and there were bits and pieces of debris, eg a bucket full of dirty water, an old paddling pool, in the back garden. The covers on the sofas and chairs are grubby with dirty cushions. Sky TV etc available but not used by us. We could not find a key to unlock the patio doors in the kitchen and the cooker hood did not work. The internal doors squeaked and the back door was difficult to open and close. The bathroom and en-suite were had been well cleaned but the showers were mildewed and the bathroom had some broken floor tiles.Overall a large cottage, cleaned very well but in dire need of some tlc."

"As a family of 5 plus doggy we loved this cottage the week before Easter. Appreciated the welcome basket after the long drive. Lovely fresh stylish decor. The cottage has been cleverly extended to modernise and make nice bathrooms and bedrooms. Still felt cottagey but plenty of room for a tall family with teenagers. Under floor heating was great. Easy to find from M6. Simple shop a stones throw away. We did a days walk from the house, left shorter ones for next time. Great pubs in next villages. Surrounded by lambs but found places to walk dog off lead. Picturesque stream runs over rocks in front of cottage (thats why you cant drive to the door) but I would have been happy to have toddlers here as wide wall inbetween and they can play in rear courtyard space ( a side gate would be an advantage) We had good weather but would have been happy to be holed up here as such a nice house. Only lower scores where for the cloudy glass tables and shelves that needed a micro-fibre cloth going over. If we were in high season and the pub had been open it would have been nice to eat there and walk home. Have recommended to friends and family."

"Great location to explore the lakes, the cottage is in a lovely quiet village with good access to all areas of the lakes, with haweswater only a couple of miles walk down a very peaceful road. The welcome gift was a nice touch. Overall the cottage was beautiful and very well stocked with everything you will need to prepare anything from a quick sandwich to a full roast dinner. Very cosy lounge and the main bedroom with its feature wall was lovely. The only thing that let the cottage down a little was the overall attention to cleanliness, it was by no means dirty but just a little more time cleaning before we arrived would have made the whole stay perfect.I would, without hesitation stay here again, stunning house in a stunning location in the most beautiful area of the country. Just needs a good thorough clean, especially the kitchen and the dog hairs on the sofas."
