What our customers say about their holidays

This is the second time we've stayed at May Blossom Barn this year!

We loved it so much after the first visit! Please check back on my previous review as there's no point in repeating what I wrote there. We just love this cottage - light and airy with lovely views across the valley. It's also warm in cooler months - and the Rayburn is very simple to use (I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get the hang of it, but it's easier to use than a conventional oven & hob). Everything you need is supplied - all top-quality: towels, crockery, cutlery, etc. Plus, the barn is beautifully, carefully and thoughtfully decorated and furnished. Look for the hare symbols - even the hook on the back of the shower room door is a small iron hare's head with the ears acting as a hook. The barn is also equipped with locally-made items such as the glass coasters in the bedrooms and other glass ornaments. Having stayed in another cottage this summer which comprised cheap chain-store furnishings and equipment throughout (not through Helpful Holidays or Sykes, I hasten to add, but another cottage company), May Blossom Barn with its superior fixtures, fittings and equipment is an absolute dream and a delight to arrive at after a long drive. We will definitely be returning - hopefully this will become our bolt-hole for future Devon & Dartmoor holidays.

Wow! What a lovely cozy completely refurbished cottage with all our needs catered for.

We originally wanted a cottage with a real fire but we both loved the real like electric fire and decided it was better without the hassle of making it up after long walks bagging tors. The kitchen was more than fully equipped and everything was very good quality as the owners have a real detail for providing the best. The garden was lovely with the seating area but too cold for us to use but be lovely in the summer. Big spacious bedrooms with large king size beds and one en suite and even though we were almost on the Main Street it was very quiet. We loved the location being in the centre of Chagford with a good selection of artisan shops and being opposite Blacks the most amazing deli where we bought soups and cakes for our walks and three really lovely food pubs - The Three Crowns, The Globe and our favourite The Chagford Inn. We also recommend breakfast in The Old Forge Cafe. There’s an excellent wine shop selling local beer and cider and a bakery, greengrocers and butchers. We particularly loved the bell ringing on Tuesday evening for 90 minutes. We also managed to park on the street for free. We notice from the visitors book that many people stay for a second time and we can see why! Thank you to our hosts for making such a wonderful holiday stay

This was our third stay at the gorgeous May Blossom Barn and we're already planning our fourth visit!

The quality of everything in this cottage is first class - from the tasteful decor to the high-quality fixtures and fittings. It is obvious that a lot of thought has gone into making this cottage as comfortable as possible. The rooms are large - the kitchen is enormous! It's cosy, with amazing views across one of Dartmoor's most beautiful valleys. It is also incredibly convenient for this part of Dartmoor with Bovey Tracey and Lustleigh just down the road and Moretonhampstead just up the road. Really, you have everything you could possibly want here for a holiday on east Dartmoor. There is also an EV charger now beside the parking space. While we were there, the area was hit by storms (thankfully on just one day). However it affected the Rayburn which heats the cottage and also doubles as a stove. The owners responded immediately when I messaged them to say that we had no heat or cooking facilities, and talked me through how to reset the Rayburn so everything was working again. The owners are friendly and obviously really care about their guests' comfort. So five stars there as well.

I spent a peaceful and comfortable month at Higher Whiddon Farm, during an abnormally cold February to March.

Despite the bitterly cold spell, the house was always warm - the central heating easy to manage, and the wood burner very efficient and easy to use. There was a lovely light sitting room, a very comfortable upstairs bed, splendid views, and pleasant walks from the door (I had no car). The owners live next door, and are friendly, relaxed and thoughtful. They also have two gorgeous small children whom I enjoyed meeting. Having the horses nearby is a great treat, and as a townie who knows nothing of horses, I enjoyed learning about them. I'd certainly recommend the cottage to anyone - families, couples, or people on their own. One thing worth mentioning is that if you're coming in winter, you need to bring wellies, especially for the footpath over to Ashburton. The only negative for me was the lack of an upstairs toilet. It would be wonderful if they could find a way of fitting one in.

May Blossom Barn is an extremely well appointed and comfortable holiday cottage and we had a very enjoyable stay there.

We've stayed on Dartmoor dozens of times and usually go for more remote locations but the benefit of the location of this property is the easy access to many parts of the moor without 'squeezing' and reversing down lots of narrow lanes (which we don't mind but it can get wearing). The lounge and bedrooms were very comfortable; the log burner was easy and efficient to use. The kitchen was very well appointed and we got used to the Rayburn (we had one years ago in our first house) which does take longer to heat up than a conventional oven and the top shelf is slightly hotter than the bottom one (obviously, with no fan). It was part of slowing down for the week. A bit of care is needed entering and leaving the drive because it's near a bend but the road isn't particularly busy. All in all it is an excellent property and we wouldn't hesitate to book it again.
