What our customers say about their holidays

    • Kathryn - Verified booking

We had problems with the french doors, could not close them after heat had been on them, consquently we didnt open them.

Sykes contacted me, re first night review, gave sykes my feed back, which it seems was a waste of time. Was told the doors would be dealt with, but nothing they could do about the uncomfortable mattresses and that sykes would get back to me after speaking to the reception about the doors but nothing was done and never heard back from Sykes, Awful mattresses.. due to the fact that they were on upside down, which we found out on the last day when stripping the beds!, this could easily been avoided when the bedding was changed for new guests.I shouldnt have to go striping the beds to check if the bed change ahd been done correctly!! Im on holiday. Little things like, no caddy holders in showers, no hooks on the back of doors, no seat/stool near socket/mirror for drying hair,no microwave dishes/bowls for microwave use. Overall, having the mattress the right way up would have made our stay much more comfortable and enjoyable!! Feel somewhat let down by sykes when promises were not kept.

Stayed in Ash Lodge at the height of the 2021 season in August.

We were so impressed with the lodge- really beautifully furnished and equipped. One of the best accommodations that we have stayed in. The campsite Is big and busy so there are campers closer than the pictures in the listing suggest, but we quickly got used to this and then just felt guilty and a bit smug at our comfort on the rainy days! The kids benefited from the facilities on the site- using the pool and play area, which allowed the adults some relaxing staying at base camp days. The location is rural but close to all amenities and easy to access all of south Devon’s attractions. We ate a great meal at the Ten Tors pub nearby. The only minor niggle was the mattress on the double bed- very uncomfortable- but we discovered after a few bad sleeps that the mattress had been turned over and isn’t designed to be so- we turned right way and was fine after. A great holiday and we would recommend and return!

      A real five star experience.

Washing liquid, towels, t-towels, dishwasher soaps, soap, kitchen roll, toilet roll, hover, iron, dustpan and brush, broom, ironing board, heated towel racks, under floor heating, easy internet access, tv - brilliant, you can bake cakes, cook roast dinners or simply fry up your breakfast. Shop on site with great farm produce meat - tasted second to none, .... the list keeps going. Home from home but five star. Greeted with fresh farm eggs and cupcakes. Soooo clean and fresh. Recommend all day long. Thank you for a fabulous experience. The best! Oh even a washing machine. Went home with all clean clothes dried on the clothes horse provided. Lovely. Did I mention beautiful surroundings and lovely people. Its a farm just on the outskirts of Newton Abbot - Five minutes to pubs and shops - Fabulous.

      Alder Lodge was lovely.

On arrival there was fresh milk / eggs four homemade cupcakes and treats for our dog. This was such a lovely gesture and appreciated thank you A couple if points for future reference. The double mattress in the main bedroom was extremely uncomfortable there were springs digging in our backs etc. We did point this out to the site owners who gave us two duvets to put on top of the mattress. Slightly helped, however we would only book this lodge again if the mattress was changed to a new/decent quality mattress. The lodge itself was clean, However the outside was dirty and full of cobwebs (I spent 30 minutes or so, going round the whole of the outside lodge sweeping the cobwebs/dirt etc from the windows/seating area/round the lights/railings. Some cushions on the sofas would have been nice.

      Fabulous lodge!

Brand new this year, all facilities included, beds made up, lots of towels, a good supply of loo rolls, and in the kitchen there are tea towels, dishcloths and sponges, and washing up liquid. Tea, coffee, milk, homemade muffins and fresh eggs all waiting for us when we arrived. Dog bowl provided for our girlie, along with treats and poo bags. Had central heating on once as temperatures dropped, and this works a treat. Lodge is extremely spacious, settees and beds all very comfortable. Two points that should be mentioned on the description are that the lodge does incorporate a washing machine, as well as a dishwasher. There is a full fridge, and freezer. And there is ample parking for two or even three cars beside each lodge. Very good accommodation, had a lovely week.
