What our customers say about their holidays

    • Victoria - Verified booking

Monks cottage is truly delightful in a superb location with spectacular views.

Ideal proximity to the local Stannary town of Chagford, West Devon and Dartmoor National Park. The cottage provides the perfect stay for couples looking to explore the region. The accommodation is extremely spacious and beautifully decorated and extremely well equipped. The surrounding hedged gardens are so lovely with ponds, an orchard, abundance of wonderful plants and flowers and so well maintained. The land around the cottage provides the opportunity to walk and explore or sit and enjoy this lovely environment. There is also a garden and seating to enjoy directly outside the cottage. The owners property sits next to Monks cottage and Nicky and Si are the most delightful, hospitable hosts you could imagine. They are interesting, friendly and extremely helpful. Their enthusiasm and energy for the property and their beautiful surroundings is infectious!!! You cannot help feeling the warmth and passion these lovely hosts have given to their much loved lifestyle and the effort and work that has been put in to achieve what they have and now share with others. This was the most enjoyable four days away we could have spent and we would highly recommend. Thank you so much Nicky and Si

The Old Chapel was truly lovely and we really enjoyed our week there.

We thought it was very clean, very well kitted-out, with a very modern feel in terms of under floor heating and other facilities such as the oven and WiFi speaker. The location feels very snug, with wonderful views of the Teign estuary and star-studded skies on clear nights. The amazing village store is down the lane, as well as the Carpenters Arms which is a fantastic pub. Bovey is a 3 mile walk through lovely Devonshire lanes. You can get over to Haytor through some beautiful woodland and open moorland on foot in about an hour or so. We'd seen the chapel before it was made into a holiday cottage so we can appreciate the transformation that has taken place. Thanks to Jill and Mervyn for making the place available for those of us who love Dartmoor! 10/10.

This was our second visit to Monks cottage, this time for two weeks.

The place is absolutely fabulous,as are the gardens, especially at this time of year, when the flowers are in full bloom. The cottage is like a home from home, with everything you need for your stay.Very peaceful,as you are right in the heart of the country, with lots of wildlife, and only the occasional passing traffic. Nicky & Simon, the owners, live on site, and are the most wonderful, interesting ,and welcoming people we have had the pleasure of staying with.We also loved meeting Henry, their new Golden Labrador puppy, who loved visiting us in the cottage! We hope that one day we might return for another memorable stay. Wishing Nicky & Simon all the very best for the future. Kevin & Ros See.xx

We had an amazing stay at Weddicott Barn!

This was our first holiday with our little one of 8 months and he absolutely loved it! The place is big enough so when all our family were there with us we never felt cramped. The main bedroom is large enough that even with the travel cot up we still had acres of room! The guinea fal kept us all entertained and we loved going to see the horses and cows with the occasional suprise appearances from the chickens and bunnies. Even though we were only an hour and a half away from home we still had one of the most relaxed holidays we've had in a long time. Would definitely highly recommend and would love to come back!

A great home from home experience in the quaint village of Chagford, where the locals are very welcoming!

! This warm cottage is very well equipped, from the crystal whisky glasses to the nicely firm mattresses (one of the few places I’ve stayed at where my back hasn’t ached for days trying to get used to it) and the tasteful decor. There is good communication too from not just the owner (Claire) but even the cleaner advised us of an early entry before 3 whilst en route (great for those that that don’t have a 6 hour drive like ourselves). We would definitely use this as our base when we visit Devon next. Thanks to Claire for our stay!! Mark and Christine Lewis (Southport, Merseyside)
