What our customers say about their holidays

    • Minati - Verified booking

The property is situated in an excellent location, minutes away from the sea and sand.

And having a designated parking facility was a great help. We felt the owner has put a lot of thought into what makes a good holiday home, especially for a family. - Upon arrival, we found a welcome gift which was so touching. - Very clean and spacious place. - Comfortable beds with plenty of storage space in the bedrooms. - The kitchen was well stocked with plenty of utensils and saucepans. We were pleasantly surprised to also see the provision of plastic cups and bowls for young children to use. - The dishwasher was a lifesaver with 2 children to look after. (From past holidays we knew that things like toilet rolls, kitchen rolls and bin bags are provided to cover for a couple of days, then it is the guest’s responsibility to buy more. So we were prepared for that). - Many extras were provided during our stay: Beach towels (in addition to the towels in the rooms), Family board games (which we really looked forward to in the evenings) Bucket and spade (which my son was delighted with). Foldable clothes airer - Loved the different pieces of art works around the property; the wall hangings and seaside models. - Very good wifi, although phone signal can be weak depending on the network provider so used Whatsapp to make most of our calls. - We think this property makes use of a system boiler with a tank. So while the water pressure is amazing, once the amount of hot water runs out from the tank, you will have to wait for the boiler to heat more. We found that a full tank was sufficient for 2 adults and 2 children to take a shower one after another, but not when someone takes a bath. Whilst this property is not advertised for disabled people, we just wanted to add that we have a daughter who is completely reliant on her wheelchair. Because the property was on the ground floor with the patio door opening to the front, it made things much easier when bringing her in and out of the property. Also, the sofa was large enough for us to keep her comfortably seated in one corner with plenty of cushions to support her. And the carpet was a very good size to give her body a good stretch and exercises. There is the Fisherman’s Walking path which takes you to the sand area. It took us about 8 minutes walking to get there. And whilst the path is wheelchair accessible, the route back can be quite steep to push a wheelchair so we would recommend using the Fisherman’s Walk Cliff Lift which is open till about 5pm. If you want a wheelchair person to enjoy more of the beach, then we recommend traveling to Boscombe Pier. There you will find a Mobi mat installed on the sand (on Undercliff Drive close to the roundabout), which allows the wheelchair person to get closer to the sea but still being on the sand. And if they want to be in the actual water, then you can hire a beach wheelchair from the Boscombe Seafront Office. Recommendations: - To have details of the nearest laundry in the guest book. We use google to search for everything but for those who may not have a smartphone would benefit from this information. - Another clothes airer for the other bedroom would be really nice. - The only thing that was a bit awkward in the property was the bathroom basin. It is a really spacious bathroom, so we were surprised at the very narrow basin. It is sufficient for washing hands but not washing the face. We think this was probably something installed by the developer across all the flats in the block rather than the individual owners. A slightly bigger basin would make it brilliant.

The building is not well sealed.

Smoke from neighbours' fires made it into the property on almost every night of our stay. We ran an air purifier with a sensor that clearly monitored the pollutant ingress during these times. Who knows what it would have been like if we hadn't been running a purifier? I discovered one of the windows has a perished seal but that didn't seem to be the source of it. All relayed to the land-person who reacted like I was asking her for comments on the flavour profiles of mandarins from China vs. Japan. The property was not cleaned effectively before our arrival and it smacked of make-do: the air freshener sprayed excessively before our check-in the tell-tale. There was old food encrusted on place mats and the floors. An old toothbrush next to the nightstand. Pieces of food in the bedrooms. A smear of ketchup on the glass doors. Stains all over the kick-boards in the kitchen. The dishwasher still had water in it - not draining well obviously...we never tested it. Lamps were missing bulbs. Drawers were overflowing with out-dated tourism leaflets. The house feels like an old star being given a Vegas residency - you can slap as many gewgaws on it as you like but things don't quite look or feel as they used to. The plus sides: it had a highly effective heating system, the washing machine and fridge-freezer were good and the provision of crockery, pots and pans, cutlery, and other kitchen amenities were excellent: far better than many places you might stay. The decor is hideous. Cluttered. A caricature of a seaside home. It borders on the offensive. The furnishings are worn and stained. The towels are like drying yourself with a door mat.

I’ll just mention a couple of negatives but must emphasise that we were very pleased with the accommodation overall.

Firstly, we arrived two days before the mixed recycling bin needed to be put out. The bin was full to overflowing and whoever had filled it was not very particular about what they had put in it. The general waste bin was due for collection the week after we had left. This bin was also completely full on arrival and therefore we had nowhere to put our rubbish. Secondly, there were three beds in the second bedroom but nowhere to hang or store clothes. We had to keep our clothes in our suitcases whereas we would have preferred to have at least a chest of drawers to store our clean clothes. One small issue was that there were no egg cups so we had to improvise when my 6 year old granddaughter had a dippy egg. The flat was spacious and the garden was lovely if not well maintained. The lady at 8A (upstairs flat) grumbled at us for using the front door to unpack the car because it made her two dogs bark. Another neighbour said we were too noisy when using the basket ball hoop. I guess these people would rather not have holiday groups in a property next door. The bathrooms were modern and clean. There was a plentiful supply of hot water and there was a good selection of games and puzzles for adults and children. The location was quiet and reasonably secluded and just a ten minute walk to the cliff top or a good sized Sainsbury’s. We were very happy with the property and would book again especially because we have family living in Boscombe Spa Road which is a 15/20 minute walk away.

We had a lovely stay at Cranleigh Close.

In the house the beds were really comfy, the shower was like a monsoon, x2 sofa's big enough for the four of us so we weren't squashed up in the evenings. Big fridge, dishwasher, conservatory/deck/garden were nice although we didn't use them much. For a family there's everything you need to make a 1 week stay easy, and you could set up home for a longer stay as well. The curtains were nice and heavy so we got a good nights sleep. The telly was also a decent size which was great - no squinting in the evening like some places! They might seem silly but to us, after a long day out with the kids, it's these small things that make for a relaxing, restful evening which is what we want on holiday. The location was good for going to Bournemouth, Poultons Park, and popping in to Christchurch for coffee. Not sure what the local high streets are like as we had dinner and drinks in as we have young kids, but a pretty good base if you want to travel to various spots in Dorset and Hampshire. This is an older house, so if you want to be somewhere that's newly renovated, go to a hotel. The owner has clearly put in lots of effort to make this a home, rather than just a house for many. Would happily stay again next time we head that way.

We absolutely loved our stay at West Ridge.

What an incredibly beautiful house and gardens, it was a real privilege to be in. The house has such a lovely energy, we really got the feeling that it has been loved and appreciated, which made it so easy to feel at home there, whilst appreciating the beauty and history all around you. There are so many toys available for children which was really appreciated, ours only ended up playing with a handful of them, but there are games for all ages which is great for rainy days. The bathroom upstairs is huge, super clean, modern and practical for kids, making bath time nicer than any holiday we've been on. The whole house was spotlessly clean and the beds were comfortable with good quality white sheets. West Ridge is a short walk from the beach east of Boscombe, which is absolutely stunning and much less crowded than Bournemouth beach, and there are ice creams, toilets and water which is perfect for long days on the beach. It is also an easy drive to Christchurch and Mudeford Quay, and really close to Southbourne. We had an absolutely brilliant week at West Ridge, with many wonderful memories to cherish. We will definitely try to stay here again if we return to Bournemouth. Thank you for such a lovely stay.
