  • . With fine views across the little harbour and its working quayside (not Gull’s Crest or Crag End), Farne House Holiday Homes are within a few hundred yards of the shops, restaurants, inns and other amenities of the fishing village and colourful seaside resort of Seahouses. Converted and refurbished to extremely high standards throughout, the properties here are grouped around a central courtyard only yards away from a fine indoor heated swimming pool and sauna (at extra cost and payable direct to the owner). Available between April-October, the pool has a constant depth of 4ft 6in and features a south-facing glass sun living room to one side.
Within easy walking distance, the bustling harbour boasts a fleet of brightly painted fishing cobbles and a few larger boats, and the town itself provides a good range of facilities, including golf, sailing and horse riding. There are calm weather boat trips to the offshore Farne Islands, a wildlife sanctuary for puffins, oyster-catchers, kittywakes, guillemots and grey seals. The 28 islands form a nature reserve owned by the National Trust and, though half of them are submerged at high tide, landing is allowed daily in summer on the largest, Farne Island – where there is a nature trail, lighthouse and 14th-century chapel.
At Beadnell, 2 miles to the south, the dune-backed sands of Beadnell Bay provide ideal conditions for water sports. Formerly an important fishing village and smugglers’ haunt, Beadnell now enjoys a reputation as a centre for sailing and has the unique distinction of being the only East Coast port with a west-facing harbour. The sandy beach running the length of the bay is safe for swimming and is overlooked by 18th-century lime kilns. In the village stands a three-storey, 16th-century peel tower, which now forms part of an inn. Five minutes’ drive to the north of Farne House Holiday Homes stands the mighty fortress of Bamburgh Castle, easily visible across the wide stretch of sand from Seahouses.
Just a few miles further on is yet more historical, natural and scenic interest at Holy Island. Here, the fairytale Lindisfarne Castle was first a 16th-century fort, then a ruin which was redesigned by Edwin Lutyens in 1902 and is now owned by the National Trust.
Inland is a country of massive hills and moors, fast rivers and great forests. Between the Cheviots and the sea, there is easy touring through fields of corn and pastures dotted with solid stone hamlets and lined by dry-stone walls which patchwork the countryside. Shops 500 yards.

"Perfect location and beautiful views. We love it there and are regular visitors. Would benefit from WiFi and comfier mattress but doesn't spoil your holiday. Can't wait to go again."

"Really enjoyed our stay. We were doing the Northumberland Coastal Path so Seahouses was our base. Only problem we found was the one day we didn’t walk and planned a day out at Bamburgh someone had blocked our car in our designated bay. our day was ruined Not enough parking area for two cars per booking."
    Suzy ‐ 14 Sep 2019
"The flat we rented had a picture window overlooking the harbor at Seahouses with a view that encompassed Bamburgh Castle and Linisfarne. In addition there was a decent swimming pool just down the stairs. I never shared the pool with anyone when taking my morning swim. The armchairs looking out to sea were comfortable as was the bed. The flat was spotlessly clean and the bedding comfortable, duvet and bedlinen, pure white. One the negative side it was all rather dated and the oven didn't work very well. The showers were limp and a lot of things, I would say needed renewing. The whole complex of 7 flats is currently up for sale, so the present owners may be reluctant to undertake a renovation. So overall comfortable, clean, idyllic location with the luxury of an indoor poor. But not seaside chic."

"Good base for exploring. Comfortable well equipped cottage but not so modern. No wi if and dishwasher. Frustrating to have an extra charge for pool."
    Kerry ‐ 24 Apr 2019
"Amazing find in a perfect location. Loads of room for the whole family and the view over the harbour was spectacular. Will be back."
    Andrew ‐ 25 Mar 2019
"Second time we have stayed at Harbour Heights. Yes the furnishings are dated and perhaps could benefit from a freshening up but my goodness that view. (Photo attached is from the lounge window). You can’t beat it. The apartment is clean, comfortable and very well located and is perfect for anyone wanting to unwind. You can literally sit and take in the views. Bamburgh Castle, Lindisfarne and Farne Islands all within sight from the armchair! Can’t wait to visit again. WiFi would be nice but doesn’t put us off in the slightest."
    Andrew ‐ 25 Oct 2018
"Parking was a challenge at times. People need to understand it’s 1x car per apartment. There isn’t enough space if someone takes another car and no parking nearby so this really could be addressed and should be. Apart from that the views and apartments are lovely. The other thing is the swimming pool charge. Understand you need to pay for upkeep but it is a steep fee and shower and changing room facilities were out of use."
