    Seahouses Holiday Cottages

Seahouses, Northumberland, is a large seaside village on the northern coast of England. Nestled in the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, there's so much to see and do here including swimming, hiking, trekking, and watersports. Of course, if you want to take it slow then the fishing village and its colourful harbour won't disappoint. And, you're just a short walk or drive from local attractions like Holy Island, Farne Islands and Bamburgh Castle.

Large families can enjoy a home away from home with enclosed gardens. And groups of friends can invite everyone along to our dog-friendly cottages in the coastal village of Seahouses. The plus points first. Harbour Hideaway is in a fantastic location in Seahouses. Very handy for all the lovely local amenities. The convenient parking space is right outside the property. The decor is modern and the layout well thought out. For the size it is well equipped, the combined microwave is a larger model. We found the sofa bed to be comfortable and easy to convert from sofa to a bed. The views from the property are beautiful, with lovely walks along the coast. However, Harbour Hideaway is very small, once the sofa bed is made up, you can only just walk around it. The main space, not including the front door recess is app 2.3 metres, (less 40cm for the kitchen run, approx 1.9 metres) by 3.2 metres approx. There is a small recess for the front door. We found damp and high levels of humidity to be a problem and have provided the owner with photos. Thankfully we had lovely weather because it would be difficult drying wet coats, shoes and walking coats in such a confined space. There is very little storage space and we had to leave rucksacks, walking shoes and jackets in the car. All bedding and towels are provided but there were only two pillows, for two people. There is not room in the sofa bed storage for all the bedding, we had to leave a pillow out during the day. We stayed for five nights and found it a little challenging because of the lack of space and lack of storage.

Thank you for making arrangements for changing the bed sheet and pillows in the top bunk bed.

We enjoyed our stay and the welcome pack and wine was great. The pictures do not do the cottage justice in terms of surroundings. It was much more than what we expected. Feedback based on our stay: 1) The toilet bin lid was broken when we arrived and the toothbrush holder was not working properly. 2) The were mice running in the attic all night which made it difficult to sleep, I totally understand it’s a converted barn and mice will always make their way into an old building, but it’s not great when you are a light sleeper 3) The lack of an actual clothes line or rotary line was frustrating when we wanted to reuse our bath towels and costumes. The drier was unable to take more than one towel at a time to dry and it wasn’t economical to use. 4) The doors in the sitting room were too stiff to open onto the small seating area 5) The toilet button stuck several times but bounced back again after a while 6) We were thrilled to have been able to use the tennis court 7) The directions to the cottage were difficult to follow after we took the road off Broad Street. The directions should have read take the first right as the directions which we followed led us to Elford Farm. We did not follow the postcode as you advised. And coming from Seahouses we always ended up arriving back at the cottage and owners house on the right not left.

This apartment was totally unsuitable for habitation. There was a damp smell, which hit you on entering the cottage. The upstairs bedroom was like a greenhouse as the sun had been out all day. The headroom in the bedroom was very restricted in places, especially when moving around the bed. We did not stay overnight in the cottage as I was worried about the damp. My wife had Sepsis in November 2022 and we could not take the chance of any spores being present in the cottage as she is now vulnerable to infection. We spent the first two nights in an apartment at the Olde Ship Inn and then secured 4 nights in a holiday house in South Street. This obviously involved significant additional expense on our part, not to mention the stress we experienced in trying to find alternative accommodation. Having just buried my Mother the Thursday before travelling to Seahouses, this holiday came just at the right time to relax and unwind, little did we know what awaited us. We are now in Keswick for a week and on our return home I will be in touch to take this matter further. Maurice Patterson

The shower broke on our first day.

Reported to yourselves and handyman arrived within the hour. He decided that a replacement part was needed and that he would deal with the owner to have the shower repaired and that I would be contacted by the agent, I.e. Sykes. There has been no contact at all and no repair to the shower. There was little evidence of a cleaning or maintenance regime. Dust and cobwebs were everywhere. For example a duster had been used at the front of the tv stand but at the rear of the tv stand an arc of dust was the main feature. Tops of cabinets, the shower head and ceilings were home to spiders' webs. The lounge furniture referred to as plush in your property description was in a state of disrepair with collapsed springs, exhausted cushions and generally worn out. The welcome pack did not contain any logs for the log burner nor were there any logs available in the outbuilding open to us. It will be interesting to see how you deal with this review/complaint as customer service and following up is absent and resolving problems seems to be an anathema.

This is genuinely a lovely cottage which I'm sad to see is up for sale; this is our second stay here. There are a few improvements I'd make, such as more cutlery and a better selection of glasses and oven dishes, but these are really minor details, and if not heeded would not spoil your stay. The location is FABULOUS but comes with a draw back over the parking, some of which was most, most inconsiderate from others who were also on holiday. I think a "please leave space for residents of Samphire Cottage" sign, in the window, would not go a miss, although equally that would not be mandatory to abide by, but it really has been quite tricky at times. Would I stay here again? Yes, in a heartbeat. Is there room for improvement? I do think so. I do hope that any sale of this property still allows for a holiday let. It's genuinely lovely, and superbly placed, and we would absolutely go back. The communication from Original Cottages was also very good, but please allow for a 10:30 vacation of the property?
