This property has been renovated to the highest possible standards.

It’s simply fantastic. We’ve just returned home from 10. Superb nights. We always look for minimum four star, preferably five. This is by far the best property we’ve stayed in in the UK. Katey and her family live two minutes away, and are super helpful. Nothing being too much trouble. There is off-road parking for a minimum of 4/5 cars The lawned garden wraps around the property with a table and a seating area and a barbecue area. The views from the garden are fantastic, uninterrupted panoramic views of all the open countryside. The best view is to the west where you see the forest and the hills, and it’s relaxing, watching the sunset On entering the property through the front porch to the left of the hallway is the large kitchen diner and lounge To the right of the hallway is the downstairs double bedroom which is of a good size next to. That is a brilliant utility room with plenty of space for storage and a spare fridge. Next to that is the downstairs wet room which is six star. absolutely fantastic with the rain shower with attachment, wash basin and WC Upstairs there are two double bedrooms both are good size one being twin beds there’s a shower room with rain shower and attachment basin and WC. The main bedroom is an excellent size with an ensuite consisting of bath, rainshower attachments above wash basin and WC. All fitted to the highest possible standard. The beds are extremely comfortable. The property is a great position to explore County Durham with all the wonderful history and scenery. We will definitely return Wishing everyone happy holidays. Cheers.

If you're looking for a place that when you walk through the door gives you a warm, cosy hug then October Cottage is for you!

We were lucky enough to come across this little gem when searching for a last minute family holiday this summer and we struck GOLD! The cottage is in a fantastic location, set back from the bustling main street. The decor is beautiful throughout with some serious attention to detail. The kitchen held everything we needed from a cafeterie for morning coffee (not every letting has one as we've come to discover!) to roasting trays for a mid-week roast sat around the large dining table. The cosy lounge is ideal for watching the world go by and relaxing in after a long day of adventure. The enclosed garden to the rear was perfect for little legs to whizz around in burning off extra energy before bed! The beautiful decor continued upstairs with three good sized rooms, all with plenty of storage, comfortable beds and blankets and cushions in abundance. The shower and bath were 'next level' and both felt like we were staying in a boutique hotel when in fact the whole place was far better than that! Middleton itself had lots to offer on the doorstep, we were spoilt for choice in the deli and the little children's playground was ideal for a shirt wander and enjoyed by our little ones. Faye, our host was really friendly and attentive - her and Craig really have got every base covered and in style! The milk and bubbles on arrival were very welcome and very much appreciated - thank you. We hope to return...maybe without the children

Our group was 5 adults, a 3 year old and 2 dogs.

The property was absolutely perfect for us in terms of size and layout, allowing for the dog owners to take the downstairs double bedroom to be near them overnight. The enclosed garden was a great bonus for dogs and kid, but our chosen weekend was on the cold side so I'm sure we'd use it more in the summer months. We had a great welcome to the property and found everything we needed once inside for cooking etc. The owners left a great pack with local info and tailored recommendations for our child, as she had called us to check who was coming and how old they were. She had also left lots of toys and some children's bowls/cutlery etc which meant less to pack in the car. The contact with our host was great and she was always on hand to answer questions. The place is nicely decorated and very clean. The beds were very comfortable too. In terms of local area, we visited the vast Hamsterly forest numerous times for dog walks, never seeing the same part twice. The riverside walk from the visitor centre was perfect for our 3 year old and included lots of playgrounds and a Gruffalo activity. Fish and chips from Miners Munchies was nice (cash only) and we visited a couple of localish pubs. Despite the cold we had the most amazing skies with expanded views over the hills. I'm sure we'll be back in the future, maybe in the summer months next time!

The scenery in the North Pennines is glorious and this comfortable cottage has wonderful views.

As listed, the kitchen is well equipped but small whilst the rest of the cottage is very spacious for three people. There is a large floor standing boiler in the kitchen which gives excellent heating and hot water to both properties but does make things a bit awkward. To find The Byre from the north east just go up Weardale to Lanehead and turn in to the left just after the tractor sign - the listing makes this more complicated than it is. The tea tray was laid out for us on arrival with nice biscuits and there is milk in the fridge, coffee, salt and pepper and stock cubes in the cottage. Wi-fi was sporadic but is good enough for e-mails and finding out about local attractions. The Alston to Penrith road is closed for five weeks so if you plan to go to the Lakes from here you will have to find another way. With excellent double glazing and trees planted along the road traffic noise is reduced but you will hear motor bikes particularly at the weekends and Bank Holidays - they love the Dales and sound like they are coming through the property! The highlight for us was seeing a red squirrel by the garage - first time in a lot of years. The owners are friendly and welcoming but take warmer clothes and rain wear as the weather can be as spectacular as the scenery!

This is an absolute gem of a holiday home.

From start to finish the owners could you not do enough to ensure our comfort and convenience. The standard of the accommodation was outstanding with every bedroom and bathroom being of luxury hotel quality. The owners provided a very generous welcome pack for humans and dogs, which was appreciated very much. The garden is enclosed and safe for dogs and children to run free, and the views on all sides are extensive. There are walks from the property but historic sites are also just short drives away. If you're up for a longer drive (about an hour) then Blackhall beach is worth a visit for a rugged beach walk. This beach suffered during its industrial past but now offers a much under-used coastal experience. Search 'Blackhall beach car park' for directions to straightforward free access to the beach. We had a great few days at this property and thank the owners very much.
