Kearton Cottage is a beautifully rebuilt holiday cottage in Barnard Castle, made for couples who love countryside calm with a dash of character. Set within landscaped gardens overlooking the Dales, it blends warmth, comfort and style with a log burner, oak kitchen and sweeping views. Guests can wander to The Pinfold Club or explore Teesdale's waterfalls and the market town's cobbled streets. With a whimsical Stonehenge feature in the garden and the chance to view a private vintage steam collection, this self-catering accommodation in County Durham offers a peaceful, romantic base for exploring the North East and beyond.
Kearton Cottage is a south-facing stone retreat located just outside the Hamlet of Boldron, just half a mile—or a leisurely ten-minute stroll—from The Pinfold Club and two miles from the cobbled charm of Barnard Castle. Adjoining the owners' home at East Roods, the cottage has been beautifully rebuilt and finished with care: underfloor heating warms the tiled floors, sunlight spills through traditional sash windows, and French doors open to a private east-facing patio with uninterrupted views over Teesdale. Landscaped gardens roll gently away towards open fields, with a playful Stonehenge-style feature and the chance, by arrangement, to tour the owners' private collection of vintage steam engines and classic tractors. Kearton Cottage is a great spot for watching the beautiful sky’s, sun rises and the sun sets.
In Barnard Castle, days unfold easily. Browse antiques and boutiques, visit The Bowes Museum with its striking French façade, or wander along the river beneath the castle ruins. The town hums with independent cafés and good food, while The Pinfold Club offers real ales and friendly company within walking distance.
Teesdale's wild beauty begins almost at the doorstep: heather-topped moors, secret waterfalls, and wide walking trails stretch in every direction. Spend a day tracing the River Tees to High Force, explore Richmond and the North Pennines aonb, or venture to Durham's unesco-listed cathedral. From dawn views across the valley to nights beside the log burner, this self-catering holiday cottage in Barnard Castle promises an escape that feels both grounding and indulgent.
