What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mr Kent - Verified booking

My wife and I recently enjoyed a delightful 3-night stay at Honey Hirst to celebrate her birthday, and it was absolutely wonderful! The cottage was a beautifully converted property, finished to an exceptionally high standard. We were pleasantly surprised to find groceries waiting for us upon arrival, which made us feel right at home. The cottage itself was spotless and equipped with fantastic amenities and facilities. The local area is brimming with amazing places to explore, and getting around was a breeze. We had a fantastic time visiting the Beamish Living Museum and Hadrian's Wall. Overall, our stay was perfect, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience!

The cottage was welcoming, some lovely bread , butter and marmalade was left along with milk, I had ordered my shopping to be delivered and the owners took it in and put everything away in the fridge for us, they also had a basket full of tea, coffee and delicious biscuits which were complimentary, we ate them all....the tv was huge and a great watch, we were not sure how the radiators worked and kept raising the temperature on them. Parking was great and the owners were friendly and approachable. The linen on the beds smelt so good, all freshly washed, towels were super soft and a great shower. Thank you for a great stay.

Honey Hirst is a recently renovated old barn. Everything inside is new and fresh and therefore very comfortable. It’s peaceful. There is loads to do within about a 20 miles radius. We spent a great day around Hadrians Wall. Corbridge is lovely. Beamish is a must and very close. We ditched the car one day and went to Newcastle on the bus. The stop is a 5 minutes walk. David, the owner and barn renovator recommended Blanchland, a gem, and Weardale. The countryside and especially the moors are beautiful and on the doorstep. We enjoyed our holiday very much.

This is a very clean, comfortable and well equipped holiday cottage. I especially appreciated the generous welcome pack. It is in a quiet location but just a short drive to shops and eateries. The attractions of Durham and Newcastle are an easy short drive or bus ride away, as are riverside walks and cycle routes. For those quieter nights in the excellent sky package and large TV will be appreciated. The few steps leading to the bedrooms and bathroom would be an issue for those with limited mobility. Outside space is limited to car parking and a small bench.

Had an absolutely wonderful stay here and am hoping to return next year.

The house was clean, well stocked with facilities and cosy. It felt like our home rather than a holiday let. The owner has put a lot of effort into this property and takes a pride in how she presents it. Highly recommended. The local area is lovely and as we are national trust members there is plenty to do. Durham is beautiful and well worth a visit. We had a meal at the Pub and Kitchen in Cassop and their Sunday roast was fabulous! Many thanks and hope to see you next year.
