What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mr Round - Verified booking

We had a wonderful stay at Forget-Me-Not Cottage, which is ideally located in the heart of Tideswell village and is perfectly sized for a small family holiday. The cottage is compact, however very well provisioned with equipment and the owners wonderful attention to detail provides finishing touches which create a lovely cosy atmosphere. The log burner and heating system are both incredibly straightforward to operate, which ensure a lovely warm and cosy winter retreat. The conservatory is a fantastic place to enjoy cosy meals in, especially with the Christmas decorations. The side entry was particularly useful for muddy boots and a dirty dog. The ground floor has obviously recently been renovated and it really shows, with the lovely kitchen ideal to cook family meals. Upstairs is more traditional, but not unpleasant and provided everything we needed for a winter family escape. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and so much so that we have already booked to return (twice!) since coming home.

It’s a lovely property which was let down by some issues.

Plus it’s not really practical for bigger families. Issues: heating wasn’t turned on when we arrived. There was no hot water for showers in the evening or the following morning. When we asked for the heating to be turned up this was then fixed for the rest of the stay. Maintenance had missed replacing a smoke alarm battery and this went off all night on our last night. Some of the pans and utensils were very tired. We left some out for replacement. Practicality- there is only one (difficult) parking space. We were told to park in the nearby pay and display public car park, but this doesn’t allow overnight parking! The walk to the nearest pub (which is more than the 0.1 miles stated) is down a dangerous busy road with no pavement in places.

The property is in a good location for walking and there is a friendly pub a short distance away.

However, although the pub is close enough to walk to, it is potentially dangerous to do this in the dark due to lack of pavements and traffic. Parking at the Barn is very difficult. The driveway is too small to manouvere a car when other vehicles are parked - which was very often during our stay. It is also steeply sloping which adds to the problem. The property is generaly well appointed although the kitchen and fittings/appliances are quite old/tired. There is a steep stone staircase which would be difficult/dangerous for anyone with mobility problems or small children. We had problems with the heating system during our stay. Only some of the radiators were functioning. These were reported to the owner but were not rectified during our stay.

If we could give a 100 stars for this cottage, then we would.

The owner was lovely and allowed us to go in early and kept us fully informed about the cottage. 10/10 Customer Service. The cottage was just so beautiful, very very clean, and just so cosy. The welcome package, cakes and mulled wine was very welcomed, thank you so much. The beds in the cottage were just so comfortable and very well needed after a day walking around the beautiful village of Tideswell. We had the most wonderful weekend and the local people, including Amy the owner, were some of the most friendliest people we have ever met! Thank you once again, and we hope to visit again sometime soon. Finally, we will be sure to recommend Angel Cottage to all our friends and family.

Very nice and cosy cottage, and location couldn’t have been better. The owner was helpful, when we needed an electrician they were there within an hour. Could walk to nearest pub in less than a minute, always a bonus. There were only two downsides, the hoover wasn’t very good and made the place smell of dogs, and there were no doors downstairs. I assume there couldn’t have been a one into the lounge because of a step, into the conservatory a sliding door would be good. Our dog sleeps downstairs at home, so if your dog sleeps upstairs it’s not an issue. They are the only moans, but apart from that it was perfect for us, and we will hopefully be back next year.
