    Holiday cottages in Selby

Considered to be a hidden gem in North Yorkshire, the historic market town of Selby is a great base for a memorable break. Home to a quintessentially British scenic town centre with fine dining restaurants, a mediaeval abbey, and a 15th century gatehouse, Selby is the perfect place to explore cultural attractions during the day and enjoy a great meal and warm atmosphere in the evening.

Once the leading mining area in the UK, today the pace of life in Selby is friendly and relaxed. With a population of less than 15,000, there is a strong community feeling and locals often know each other and will greet each other –and visitors –with a friendly smile.

At Snaptrip we offer an inviting range of holiday cottages in Selby. Our cottages have all kinds of facilities from hot tubs, to log fires, swimming pools, and spacious gardens. Our friendly customer support team can provide any guidance you need, and don't forget to ask for information on our latest offers and discounts.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Rosemarie - Verified booking

The property itself would have been fine.

However the despotic nature of the owner, who turned out to be a control freak made it extremely difficult for us. The weather in UK, for the fortnight we were there was the coldest for many years on occasions at minus 5. The heating AND hot water timings of coming on and going off was completely controlled by her. We were unable to get showers before 7 am because the hot water was not available until then. The heating came on about the same time. This was very inconvenient. During the days if I wanted instead to have a shower, again the water wasn’t on or the heating until gone 4:30. I did phone and ask about having the heating on earlier, as I explained I was sat with my coat on, but was instead given a lecture on the price of oil, and was reminded that they were described as holiday cottages and as such we shouldn’t really need heat in the day as we should be out ‘holidaying’ !!! I was directed to an electric heater which naturally was totally inadequate. Although my diagnosis of lung cancer the day before we went to the cottage, wasn’t the owners fault. When I asked her if my sister could come down from Scotland to see me and stay a few nights. She seemed most put out even though it’s a six birth cottage. So she directed me to Sykes. I rang Sykes who couldn’t understand why she’d done that. The man at Sykes was most helpful and said it was fine. When I called her back to tell her, she didn’t offer any bedding for my sister, who did end up having to bring her own. However the owner did ask how much more I’d been charged, and said it should be more because that’s how Sykes charged. She seems most put out when I explained it didn’t work like that. I’ve rented many cottages over the years a lot of these with Sykes. I’ve never left a negative review. I’ve never had to. This time was an exception thankfully.

We come to York every year to visit family locally and we looking for somewhere to return to regularly, unfortunately this was not it.

The house was well located and a good size and price for what we needed. The welcome basket was a nice touch and we are thankful for that. The children enjoyed a few nice treats. However it was not clean. I had to buy some disinfectant to clean the toilet which was disgusting and also clean the basin and shower. The hob was filthy and I was glad we were not cooking at the property as we spent the evenings with family. There were only three bowls so we had to wash up one before the last person could have breakfast. The dishwasher looked like it was on its last legs so we were not keen to use it. Suggest buying a wipe clean table cloth as the grooves in the wooden table accommodate dirt and the placemats provided are stained. There are not enough seating for everyone to sit comfortably in the front room and watch the TV. The photo of the front garden is misleading as it’s just open and part of the car park area. The blurb to the cottage needs to mention the steep stairs and the fact that the first step is just outside the door to the main bedroom. I have dyspraxia and I was terrified I would come out of my bedroom and fall down the stairs. Disappointing from what we have experienced previously from Sykes and we will not be returning.

      What a great place.

. Every thing you need plus more... Nice supprise on arrival tea, coffee, sugar and a carton of milk in fridge... Little items in a basket in our rooms, nail clippers, loofa, comb, nail files, flannels and cotton balls... This was only the start.... We found lots of games to suit all ages from 1 to 72 and a curiosity box... The place was welcoming and even l who has difficulty with stairs found there's easy to climb... My son enjoyed being out in the large garden with the dog and the dog enjoyed the space indoors as well.... This property is ideal centre for lots of attractions in the area... We recommend the local pub.. The New Inn... Fridays meals in a basket are great and try the Sunday dinners... More than enough in the regular size.. Would highly recommend this little haven for a great break... We will be back Thistle. Thank you for a great week

The cottage has everything you need and more.

We loved all of the extras, including a cupboard of games and DVDs, the summer house in the garden with toys and the books to borrow. There were lots of added extras that we weren't expecting which made the stay special. The cottage itself is huge and fantastic value. The garden is also huge and perfect for dogs. There is only one thing preventing me from giving 5 stars and that's the quality of the beds. Everyone struggled to sleep and woke up sore. You could really feel the springs so maybe a decent mattress topper would help. As it's pet friendly, a better hoover would be useful. The one provided could just about pick up hairs from the vinyl flooring but had no chance on carpet. The cottage is in a perfect spot so close to Selby and lots of lovely walks. There is also a fab playground just down the road with plenty of equipment and even a zip wire.

Huge barn/cottage four mins drive from Selby.

Walking distance from local shop selling fresh pastries and dog friendly pub with food and pool table. Train or bus to York 45 mins. Hour and half from Scarborough, Filey and Whitby. Cottage is warm and roomy with disabled loo and downstairs single room plus two large rooms and bathrooms upstairs. Well equipped clean and nice little touches. Good sized garden with a Wendy house! TV and wifi, even a caffetiere. Milk and tea coffee provided. The lighting downstairs could be brighter (too dark for the jigsaw!) but they’ve added lamps already so I can’t see how to improve it. Owners nearby for any problems. Highly recommended for a family getaway touring Yorkshire
