A short distance from the village centre of Barlby is this gorgeous ground-floor cottage Shamrock, welcoming a couple inside for a romantic escape to the idyllic North Yorkshire countryside. You are welcomed by a private self-contained entrance into a lovely open-plan living space, complemented by a well-equipped kitchen where you can rustle up delicious evening meals to be enjoyed on the dining table over a bottle of wine with your other half. Once the dishes have been cleared away in the dishwasher, cosy up on the plush sofa for some true quality time, catching up as the drinks flow, or getting lost in a captivating film with a hot beverage. A table and chairs offer an alternative dining arrangement outside in your own private garden, a spot to dine alfresco with a drink in hand as you bask in the sunlight. Once the sun has set, retire to the sumptuous super-king-size bedroom, served by an en-suite wet room where you can wash away the day underneath the relaxing walk-in shower. With the village centre and local amenities just a stroll away, Shamrock is an ideal space for a weekend of celebration. Bed was comfortable and cottage was well equipped. BUT the heating and hot water wasnât working for 4 days (three nights) which required three visits from the owner to get it functioning again. This was inconvenient to say the least as itâs cold this time of year. When I finally managed to have a shower the water went all over, no shower curtain and water overflows. Sofa is also very uncomfortable

Plenty of parking. Comfortable bed. Lovely area ideal for visiting York, Selby and Leeds. Cons: Unable to control the heating which meant it was cold when you needed it. Small fan heater was insufficient for the six of room.It needed a warning advising that the water was very hot. It could not be turned down in the shower and there was a danger of getting burnt. The washing machine rubber was dirty and covered in mildew. We tried to clean it but ended up taking laundry to my son's. On top of that the seating was the most uncomfortable we have ever known. My wife has a back problem and was in agony for most of our stay. The WiFi was weak and disappeared all together when other properties were occupied. Reading the comments book it appears that many if these complaints had been raised previously without any action being taken. A shame as it could have been an amazing stay.
