The plus points first. Harbour Hideaway is in a fantastic location in Seahouses. Very handy for all the lovely local amenities. The convenient parking space is right outside the property. The decor is modern and the layout well thought out. For the size it is well equipped, the combined microwave is a larger model. We found the sofa bed to be comfortable and easy to convert from sofa to a bed. The views from the property are beautiful, with lovely walks along the coast. However, Harbour Hideaway is very small, once the sofa bed is made up, you can only just walk around it. The main space, not including the front door recess is app 2.3 metres, (less 40cm for the kitchen run, approx 1.9 metres) by 3.2 metres approx. There is a small recess for the front door. We found damp and high levels of humidity to be a problem and have provided the owner with photos. Thankfully we had lovely weather because it would be difficult drying wet coats, shoes and walking coats in such a confined space. There is very little storage space and we had to leave rucksacks, walking shoes and jackets in the car. All bedding and towels are provided but there were only two pillows, for two people. There is not room in the sofa bed storage for all the bedding, we had to leave a pillow out during the day. We stayed for five nights and found it a little challenging because of the lack of space and lack of storage.

The property is in a good location for the harbour and local amenities, has a well appointed kitchen, comfortable beds, and an excellent welcome pack.

It is warm and well insulated throughout, and would be very suitable for Autumn or Winter breaks. It is rather dark downstairs, but light and airy once on the first floor. The main drawback is the lack of a clearly designated parking space. Though there is a complementary parking permit for the pay-and-display car parks provided (which is an excellent idea), it does not fully compensate for the parking issues at the property itself. We found this to be quite a problem - ironically enough, as we don't have our own transport. Friends who helped with the transport to and from Seahouses had problems parking when packing and unpacking, as the area suggested was either occupied or being unofficially reserved by other drivers who thought the space was available. We found the house bins were being used to reserve a space when we were out. We feel that a designated parking space should really be a given with a property like this. Otherwise, the lack or a basic radio was a miss, and we'd like to note that the unsafe chair leg - mentioned in previous reviews - had still not been attended to. However, if the parking issues are not a problem for you, this property is in an excellent location.

No mention of the difficult access to the bath/shower in the property (foot stool left in the bathroom, to access very high bath/shower. When booking it was mentioned that one of us used a stick to walk. We informed you of this problem whilst on holiday and received a message from you to contact the owners. As the booking was made through you, and the height/access to the bath/shower could not possibly be sorted by the owners whilst we were there we chose not to contact the owners. We would have expected some mention on the original booking details of the difficult access to the shower facilities, especially for anyone with mobility problems. We did mention also that the kitchen cleanliness could have been better, but as we washed and sorted what we needed, and wished to enjoy our weeks holiday, we did not want to waste time on further correspondence. We have used you in the past to make holiday bookings, but feel we will try other companies in the future, due to your lack of knowledge of the property and interest in our comments, sent to you whilst we were on holiday. The position of the cottage and all other rooms were fine.

This apartment was totally unsuitable for habitation. There was a damp smell, which hit you on entering the cottage. The upstairs bedroom was like a greenhouse as the sun had been out all day. The headroom in the bedroom was very restricted in places, especially when moving around the bed. We did not stay overnight in the cottage as I was worried about the damp. My wife had Sepsis in November 2022 and we could not take the chance of any spores being present in the cottage as she is now vulnerable to infection. We spent the first two nights in an apartment at the Olde Ship Inn and then secured 4 nights in a holiday house in South Street. This obviously involved significant additional expense on our part, not to mention the stress we experienced in trying to find alternative accommodation. Having just buried my Mother the Thursday before travelling to Seahouses, this holiday came just at the right time to relax and unwind, little did we know what awaited us. We are now in Keswick for a week and on our return home I will be in touch to take this matter further. Maurice Patterson
