Lavenham
Lavenham has the honour of being known as “England’s best preserved medieval village”. Quite a claim, but if you are looking for a Suffolk destination to enjoy a last minute cottage break, then you really need look no further than Lavenham. The streets of the town are lined with thatched cottages and medieval timber-framed buildings, the interiors of which are now occupied by art galleries, restaurants and independent shops. Lavenham's centrepiece is the impressive Guildhall of Corpus Christi, which stands as a lasting reminder of the former wealth of the town when the export of wool dominated the local economy.
