What our customers say about their holidays

    • Hawthorn - Verified booking

Had the Potential to be Good. The location within the countryside was great for peace & quiet and observing wildlife from the windows - lots of pheasants all over the place. It is close to the coast & easy to visit the main places we wanted to : Southwold, Sutton Hoo, Aldeburgh & Thorpeness. It was spacious enough inside but we had a few niggles -  It needs some homely touches - pictures, rug, some colour on the walls.  It felt cold & unwelcoming.  The website shows cushions on the sofas but they were not there so we used the spare pillows instead.   There were no tea towels but there wasn't a draining board for the kitchen sink either so nowhere to stack dishes washed by hand. The beds all had duvets & covers that were a size too small e.g. Kingsize bed but must be a double duvet & cover, not good on colder nights, same for the singles beds. Plenty of hot water & the heating was adequate although took longer to react as it's an air source heat pump.  We couldn't find any instructions for the heating except "adjust the temperature" but didn't say how.  We did work out how to operate the controls but others wrote in the Visitors Book that they couldn't use the heating & were cold.  The Freezer was in the Utility room, in a side building but better planning could surely have included it in the kitchen area? Biggest problem - the Freezer was unusable when we arrived as it was frozen solid, the door wouldn't close & the drawers were iced up.  The ice & frost would have built up over time & should have been defrosted well before reaching that state.  This "freezer frozen solid" was actually mentioned in the Visitors Book by the people who were there the previous week but either the book was not read, the freezer not checked (as a matter of course) or totally ignored.  As we expected to be able to use the freezer, we defrosted it ourselves throughout the Sunday.  That meant mopping up drips then drying inside which took several hours & throwing away the frozen food we'd brought with us.

Arrived at Marsh View for a four night stay on 7th October, from the moment we arrived and was welcomed by the owner and her two delightful dogs. Our stay here has been relaxing and peaceful. With fantastic views overlooking the river and marshes. The property is in excellent order and well equipped with all mod cons. The welcoming hamper of basic food bread, milk eggs, cereal etc is a very nice touch. All little things to make you feel welcome. The property is Set well back from the main road into Aldeburgh with no traffic noise. For the energetic a must, is the walk from the premises to Snape Malting around 4 miles following a well marked footpath through woodland, heather and wonderful views over the countryside along the way. Arriving at Snape Malting and in need of refreshments and lunch this was taken at the Café 1885 on the first floor. We both ordered the sea food platter which was delicious an excellent choice. After lunch we strolled around the many retail outlets. All the staff we encountered here were very friendly and helpful. Time was approaching 16:30 walking back to March View was out of the question, which would mean returning in the dark. Phoned for a local taxi which arrived within 15 mins to take us back to March View. The next day was spent exploring Aldeburgh sea side town, a stroll along the beach with its many huts selling freshly caught fish. quaint houses and unusual shops. We stopped for lunch at the Lighthouse restaurant in the high street which had been highly recommended to us. The food and choice on offer are is excellent. Our four day break soon came to a end. However, I’m sure we will be back again soon to explore this part of the world again. Thank you for making us feel at home. We will return.

The apartment was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The bed linen and towels were of a high quality and the apartment was very well equipped with everything you might need for the stay. It was in a very quiet location even though it was quite close to the main road into Aldeburgh. The views from the living room and bedroom were lovely and we were lucky that the weather was very nice so we took advantage of sitting in the beautiful front garden. The only negative is that the apartment is described as being within walking distance of Aldeburgh High Street. This is misleading as it is two miles along the busy Saxmundham Road with no footpath in places. This meant that we had to drive every evening into town to eat/drink which is not ideal if you have already been driving in the daytime. On the plus side there were several lovely walks close by to the apartment, in particular the Sailors Path which was only a hundred yards from the entrance to the property. We would definitely recommend Marsh View and hopefully will return next year.

What can I say about Bumbles Retreat!

!! FANTASTIC, BEAUTIFUL, COMFORTABLE PEACE & QUIET . Simply the BEST place to totally relax, chill out to recharge our batteries . We also had lovely weather, which was a bonus.Everything you could think of was provided, a tin of treats for our boy FLINT & a lovely basket of goodies for us. Our hosts too were so lovely, they've created a wonderful Retreat ❤️& I would highly recommend going there if you need to totally relax. Flint, our dog had a brilliant time to, so much room to run around as much as he wanted, in pastures of wild grasses & flowers &plenty of 'sniffs' to explore. Seeing the beautiful Barn Owl 4 out of the 5 nights was a huge bonus, plus all the other wildlife too. Local pub is great for either a takeaway or on Wednesdays, a gorgeous Roast, with digs allowed inside, perfect for us. We didn't want to leave! Will certainly be visiting you again in the future
