About this property

A hidden gem in the heart of Aldeburgh in Suffolk, Mariners Cottage, King Street, is the ideal destination for a family or couples on holiday together. The accommodation is beautifully presented and offers a superb opportunity for a chilled out break. The delightful sitting room offers flexible living with folding doors helping to separate the space so that guests can relax in the sitting area while the other guests can chill out in the adjoining space and watch TV. Take off your shoes and enjoy walking barefoot on the beautiful slate floors which are warmed by underfloor heating. While the chef gets on with cooking up a storm in the fully fitted kitchen, visitors can pull up a chair and socialise in the elegant dining room which has doors leading to the outside courtyard, offering another charming space for dining. You can imagine spending balmy evenings outside drinking and dining and catching up with each other’s holiday adventures. When bedtime calls, take your pick from the twin or super-king-size; both are stylishly presented and offer a relaxing sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of holiday life. While Mariners Cottage offers a relaxing escape, it also occupies a superb location in the heart of vibrant Aldeburgh where as well as the beach being within a short walk, you will find an excellent selection of shops and amenities on the high street. There are a number of great walks and cycle rides to be had in the area with Aldeburgh Marshes offering some great photo opportunities. Jump in the car for outings to places such as Snape Maltings, Framlingham Castle, Africa Alive Zoological Reserve and Go Ape Thetford with towns worth visiting including Thorpeness, Orford, Southwold and Lowestoft. Mariners Cottage offers a home-from-home in the heart of Aldeburgh.

The popular, vibrant seaside town of Aldeburgh is famous for its culture, traditional feel and one of the best fish and chip shops in the country! Aldeburgh and Snape Maltings are home to one of the world’s greatest music festivals and has been named as one of the top 50 places to live in Britain. Crag Path runs along the seafront dividing the beautiful pebbly beach from the unspoilt pastel-coloured seafront properties and the town. The beach is a popular place for groups and couples to enjoy the wonderful fish and chips throughout the summer months. The town is steeped in history and has become a wonderful town for shopping with a good mixture of independent and chain stores to enjoy. The town also offers a good selection of pubs and restaurants or why not buy some freshly caught fish from the huts on the seafront and cook up your own feast at home. For those wishing for a more action-packed holiday there is excellent walking, cycling, sailing and golf at Aldeburgh. Growing in popularity you will want to return to Aldeburgh again and again!

Comfy sofas and beds (though slight stale bedroom odour in Master on arrival was something not encountered in previous holiday cottages and was somewhat off putting). Lovely painted decoration of all rooms, especially the lipstick pink toilet! Garden also a bonus, unless you want to sit out when the chip shops fire up.

It is cosy and intimate, we liked the decor and the underfloor heating. Kitchen is small but provided everything we needed. The bed & bedding are very comfortable and clean. We did eat out a lot and there’s plenty of choice of good restaurants, pubs and a excellent bakery. The ONLY slight drawback (if you could call that!) was the bathroom. Compared to the rest of the house it felt a bit neglected or forgotten. The bath towels were clean & of excellent standard, BUT the grouting between the floor tiles could do with a deep clean. We certainly would book Mariners Cottage again!

Literally thirty seconds' walk from both the water and the high street and with all the mod cons that you'd need in a home from home. Plenty of crockery, great kitchen equipment (even including a coffee pot and Velvetiser for post-walk hot chocolate!), comfortable beds and a lovely atmosphere. The only thing I'd flag is it's an old cottage - so if you're especially tall you might have to duck in a few places. We absolutely loved our stay though and are looking forward to returning.
