From spacious apartments in the heart of the city to cosy historic hideaways a hair’s breadth from the Yorkshire Moors, if you’re planning a holiday to York and the surrounding region there are lots of stunning properties too choose from. Looking for a pet-friendly option or a spacious dwelling comprising all modern conveniences? You can’t beat the luxury and convenience of holiday cottages in York.

A medieval town steeped in history, the winding streets that characterise York are like nothing else. This stunning northern city boasts a wealth of cultural and historic landmarks, from 13th century walls to the magnificent York Minster cathedral. In Roman times York was the capital of Britain and the city’s long and prestigious heritage is everywhere you look. And you will feel rather prestigious yourself as you enjoy a memorable stay in an idyllic York cottage.

Things to do when you stay in York Cottages

It’s a cliché, but a visit to York really is like stepping back in time. While other cities have morphed and changed to keep up with the modern age, there are parts of the city that have remained untouched for nearly two millennia. York’s historic highlights are too numerous to mention, but include the remains of the Roman fort of Eboracum and the medieval street named the Shambles; a definite must visit. There are many more of York’s treasures on display in York Castle Museum, Yorkshire Museum and the Jorvik Viking Centre.

Our UK comedy clubs guide includes some great comedy nights in York.

York is hugely popular with tourists, so you’ll find plenty to see and do as you meander through the ancient streets, including top drawer shops, cafés and restaurants serving hearty, traditional fare. Head away from the city and the tourists to discover some of the most breath-taking natural landscapes in the whole country, including North York Moors National Park and the Yorkshire Coast, so don’t forget to pack those walking boots, and a camera.

York cottages are the perfect accommodation if you’re looking to stay in this historic city, giving you the freedom and flexibility to explore, and packed with character. York cottages are your own little hideaway in easy reach of all the main landmarks – making an amazing family holiday that you’ll remember forever.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Yvonne - Verified booking

The best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in.

Julie was so welcoming & friendly, but not intrusive. We packed too many things not needed due to the cottage being so well equipped. USB points in bedroom & 1 in the kitchen area. Hairdryer, iron & table top ironing board supplied. All types of plastic glasses for the hot tub supplied. They even had a butter dish, salt & pepper, a few spices, tea towels, dishwasher tablets, kitchen spray to name a few items. Your own bins are at the side of the cottage which was great for recycling. The cottage was the cleanest we have ever stayed in, we thought we had the cleanest oven out of anybody until we saw the one in the cottage. The hot tub is of very high spec & you can even play music through Bluetooth. The view outside the cottage was that fantastic we never used the dishwasher but washed up as lovely to look at. We have recommended this cottage to our friend's & would book again when next wanting to explore the area. We even bought the same under sink kitchen bin than the cottage when we returned to our own home to give us more room. We even said after 7 nights we could of easily stayed another 7. This was our home from home. Julie & Dave have got is spot on 10 / 10

This little bungalow has everything you could think of for a perfect week away, starting with the delightful welcome basket , milk and fresh flowers on arrival, who isn't ready for a cuppa after travelling?

?? The bathroom was complete with bath and large shower cubicle and an abundance of lovely towels, bathrobe, flip flops and spa slippers and the bedroom was a lovely size with a very comfortable bed and good storage for clothes. The main area of kitchen and lounge was perfect, lovely comfy sofa and chair and the kitchen area was large and very well equipped for cooking. The hot tub was the best maintained one we have had and the cover over it meant that even when it rained we could still use it, a brilliant idea. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful. The village pub was just a short walk away and we enjoyed a good few nights in with the locals, who were very welcoming, the next village along ,Bubwith, is lovely to visit and we ate regularly at The White Swan, highly recommend this pub to anyone. Fullerton is ideally situated for for visiting other areas , such as Selby, York, Bridlington, without having to travel for hours. We highly recommend this little bungalow to stay in, I doubt anyone couldn't be happy here and we will most certainly be returning

      What a beautiful modern cottage!

Very friendly and helpful owners, thank you Julie & Dave the cottage was immaculate. The welcome basket of goodies was lovely too. We loved the hot tub, blissful after busy days walking/shopping. The only thing we found was the bedroom was too warm at night as there is no opening window, we opened bathroom window and left bedroom door open. There would normally be everything you could possibly need, though unfortunately we missed out on robes & towels, maps etc as they couldn't be provided (rules from Sykes) though we did have flip flops and slippers. The pub in the village is lovely and friendly, unfortunately not serving food at the moment. We went to The White swan in nearby village of Bubwith and had 2 lovely meals in there. Overall the cottage is in a very quiet and peaceful village setting so great place to relax and unwind.

On arrival to this wonderful property we were absolutely blown away with every aspect .

The attention to detail throughout was first class. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything you would need ( and more) . The living area was cosy and had a smart tv with Netflix and Amazon prime ,and the bedroom was comfortable-with adequate hanging space. The bathroom was large with a walk in shower and a bath. Outside there is a hot tub and table and chairs which we used everyday. Julie and Dave were fantastic hosts and made us feel very welcome. Ellerton is a small village with a pub you can walk to, but they don’t serve food everyday so please check. We drove further afield to St Vincent arms and the White swan which were both enjoyable. As a base to explore the surrounding area Ellerton is perfect and we wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Spindle cottage is part of a newly refurbished workshop.

Everything is brand new and the furnishings and decor are immaculate. Bedrooms are lovely and comfortable, each with exceptionally good en suite bathrooms which are also large and beautifully finished to a very very high standard. House was warm, bathrooms with underfloor heating so it was a cosy and luxurious stay. The hosts are very kind and welcoming and nothing was too much of a bother fort them and we received a nice welcome pack and a warm welcome from the owners. Situated between York and Hull, it is an ideal location for visiting the many attractions in the local area. Some nice countryside and walks in the immediate area adjacent too the property. If we return to this area, we will definitely use Spindle Cottage again. 10/10
