We stayed at Rigg Cottage over the Easter weekend 2022.
A family of 4 with 2 dogs we needed somewhere dog friendly. The cottage was clean and tidy on arrival, with everything we needed for the weekend. The living room was cosy and well laid out, and the dining room / kitchen had everything you needed to be home from home. There was sufficient space also for our 2 dog crates after turning the dining table 90°. Outside space was fine for an enclosed garden, with a clothes horse under the stairs for outside drying and out house where we found the outside freezer (not used) and a couple of body boards the kids had a session on at the beach. The front bedroom was quite spacious even with a double and a single in there, the back room with the double Iâd say was a little cosy but not an issue. The bathroom was well presented and the bath / shower were fine. The shower you had to gently adjust to get a fine line between too hot and cold, but once mastered no issue. Nothing I havenât experienced before in hotels. Great to have the off-road parking too, that really helps. Location was perfect, literally 100 yards from the beach and very close to the pub and seafood restaurant which were both spot on. Thereâs a small shop around the bay, just check opening times. All in all we loved it and would have no hesitations in staying again. If I had to highlight and feedback for improvements Iâd say I was a little nervous of the back fence and the potential for this to be jumped - not that my dogs did. Other than that Iâve really nothing negative to add. Thanks for a great stay!

The cottage was smaller and more worn than we expected.
It was quite hard work with a golden retriever as we were constantly stepping over her. it would be very hard work with 5 people in the house. The kitchen is not really big enough to cater for 5. The fridge is small. The photos suggest it is quiet smart when in fact it is tired and in need of a coat of paint. We also saw the building to the rear on google sat view and called to query what it was before booking. We were told it was nothing to worry about and not used. It is a house effectively in the back garden and lived in full time. We would not have booked had we know. We also called to find out if there was a hair dryer in the premises and were told not. There was, suggesting a lack of knowledge of the property. The sea view from the lounge is totally blocked when you park the car on the small parking area at the front. The best thing about this cottage was the location. Sandsend is a lovely village with good cafe and pubs. having the beach at the bottom of the road was great. We would say the cottage was slightly below average and not worth the cost.

On arrival at the cottage, we discovered it hadn't been cleaned from the previous renter, several days earlier.
It had dirty towels and bedding lying around with a rancid smell. We contact owner via mobile number provided, who firstly said Sykes hadn't sent him the booking, booked in March, followed by why don't we just go home and get a refund from Sykes. Ad we'd travelled with our dog, we thought it better to get this resolved, as travelling again so soon would up set the dog. Within about 40 minutes a lovely lady turned up to clean the cottage, but it was a bigger job than she first expected as the fridge was in a shocking, as was the bathroom and oven. As the cleaner said, she'd visited other cottages on site earlier that day to clean but had never cleaned this one. Nearly 2 hours later we were aeventually able to move our things in, and begin our little relaxing break. The garden is secure for dogs and the site itself is very relaxed and safe to walk around. The cottage needs a good revamp, the wet room needs sorted as black mould on silicon never looks good. Major concern was the smoke alarms didn't work, we know this as we burnt something and they never went off.

We enjoyed very much our 5 nights, and would certainly consider staying again.
The property is very well placed in Settle, just one minute's walk to the centre, and we had no problem parking for free during the week on Church Road, again just a minute's walk the other direction. The bed and sofa are comfortable, the bathroom is spacious with a good pan-shower, and the kitchen has all the essential facilities, including a small dishwasher. We thought the cleanliness throughout was excellent, and were baffled by the one earlier review of the property which questioned this. If there was any "downside" it was that there is no private garden, and being just behind some restuarants, the view from the front is of industrial rubbish bins, with some accompanying noise when being used. However, although this would mean we would not stay here for a main, 2 week summer holiday, this was a minor issue, and would not put us off staying here again, for a short break. Overall, this is a great property, perfectly located in Settle, and we would be very pleased to stay again.

Proâs - location, garden to sit out, parking.
Conâs - house generally not clean, garden / driveway unkempt, house shabby in general and not well looked after; eg previous reviews April 23 and May 24 note issues still not rectified (bath panel / plaster above radiator in bedroom). Property really needs total refurbishment to bring up to a level where it can justify the current rental price: indeed, we have now booked a property nearby for the same week next year, better location and recently renovated, for a lesser amount. Unless the owners are willing to invest in improving the property, I think Rigg Cottage will struggle to compete with others on the market. Also during our stay, there were two properties next door but one either side undergoing building / extension work, so the street was busy and noisy with workmen from around 7.30/8.00 in the morning, and overlooking the garden in the afternoon, so not ideal. Will not be returning, sorry.
