What our customers say about their holidays

    • Lesley - Verified booking

This was our third stay in Limhus Cottage during the past two years.

The location, garden and views offered across to the fells are all top class. However, on this occasion the standard of cleanliness has been extremely disappointing. The main areas of the property that are on show were all okay, but closer inspection reveals that the thoroughness of the cleaning between guest occupancy that should be expected is not being carried out. My major areas of concern were: Shower enclosure - it would appear that this has not been correctly cleaned for some considerable period of time. Black mould and debris are visible around the door frame and seals, the gab handles, and indeed the suppled cleaning blade for drying off the shower walls and screen. The reverse of one of grab handles was completely black with mould. I cleaned this myself as best I could. Additionally, the shower door is no longer water-tight and leaks out onto the bathroom floor. Dust - the bottom half of the bathroom heated towel rail was covered with dust. I cleaned this myself. Other areas that haven’t seen a duster for a while are the flat surface behind the TV, and the tops of skirting boards, especially those in the bedroom and bathroom. Dirt - the bathroom vanity unit shelves were stained, and the wardrobe floor was covered with what appeared to be flakes of dry paint. I cleaned the vanity unit and vacuumed inside the wardrobe. All of this would suggest that either the terms of reference that the property owners have with the current cleaning company needs some revision, or the work is not being performed as contracted and therefore needs to be subject to closer control. Lastly, a suggestion. As the house next door is now also being let, a voile or venetian blind fitted to the bedroom window would offer a degree of privacy, rather than needing to keep the curtains closed. Please view these comments as being constructive and hopefully they can inform the necessary remedial actions that need to be taken, because the property really is a lovely place to stay.

On arrival very disappointed as when we booked we were promised the house would be decorated for Christmas as we had booked the Christmas week after calling lakelovers to find out why no decorations we then had to go and buy our own and decorate the house ourselves not what you want after a 5 hour journey lakelovers did reimburse us for the cost of decorations The manger of the property Tracey did come to house and try and fix our problems which was appreciated When we inspected rooms the back bedroom had water running down wall and black mould on wall and ceiling when we questioned this we were told sorry we thought the leak was fixed this room remained damp and cold the whole week our son (‘who’s 6ft tall)had to sleep in small little cabin bed in another room for the week not great Also tap in kitchen constantly running this was attempted to be fixed whilst we were there but plumber could not fix Apart from these issues the beds were comfortable the showers were out of this world and all other things in this house were of a very good standard

      A lovely place to stay.

Absolutely spotless when we arrived, very comfortable with quality furniture but practical too. Bathrooms are superb and the bedrooms are all excellent. A couple of things to point out for the owner’s benefit really, two doors wouldn’t fully close and as one is the end bedroom that was a bit inconvenient. Door handles just need adjustment. Also, you can see daylight round most of the front door so just needs some insulation tape! Just thinking of your winter fuel bills. Maybe the courtyard could be made a little more private too, if I’m being picky. Parking was fine in the first two days (in late May) but after that it could be a problem parking near the property. Guess that depends on when you stay here. Anyway these are minor points, we really enjoyed our time at the property. It is very smart inside, spacious, only a few minutes walk from the town and has views of some of the hills. Overall, a very pleasant place to stay and we would highly recommend.

We’ve stayed in several Keswick holiday properties, so we have a good frame of reference for comparison.

This was a lovely property, everything to a very high standard and clean. Comfy beds and excellent bathrooms. Good dining room and nice big kitchen. Nice cosy living room with a log burner which we hardly used due to the amazing weather this week, what a nice problem to have. The house was perfect for our group who stayed this week. If I had to suggest improvements, and I’m being very picky here, a few more pans and baking/oven trays would be good as cooking for 6 was a little tricky with what was provided. Possibly a bigger fridge as well although I know this is built in so not possible to change. Perhaps a second fridge in the utility? With that said, that’s me being very very picky indeed. We loved our stay and we will absolutely be back in the future. Thank you.
