What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mrs Colligan - Verified booking

WOW WOW WOW! Hollow Tree Cottage was a peaceful idyllic place to stay exploring the many attractions that Cornwall has to offer. We chose the cottage as it was more central for exploring all areas of Cornwall and stayed for two wonderful weeks. In fact so good was our holiday we obviously wanted to stay longer and the cottage played a big part in the success of our holiday. The cottage itself looks like a typical chocolate box cottage and once inside further exceeded itself. Hollow Tree Cottage’s kitchen had all the equipment you could need but as it was a holiday truthfully we didn’t cook there apart from having breakfast and preparing lunches to take out for our busy days. It has a washing machine but no dryer but has two airers and ample outside drying space so ideal. Bedrooms were very comfortable. Bathroom was downstairs but we soon got used to this. Lounge/snug was ideal after our busy days as the sofas were very comfortable. We were very touched by the welcome pack which provided essentials for us and some dog biscuits for our two dogs. Our dogs were happy with the garden so we were happy, Very quiet and we hardly saw anyone whilst staying there. Saying this though we had immediate access to the roads which led us to the A30. We were surprised how convenient it was for all the usual supermarkets/superstores and felt we wanted for nothing. All the different areas of the front and back garden were beautiful and very private. At the back on further exploration up some steps to a “secret garden” we could see some geese and chickens from next doors garden area which was delightful but we never heard anything from the house or the immediate lower back garden so it was peaceful at all times. The garden was so inspirational that it has made us rethink our future garden renovation. Internet signal was excellent and had no problems with buffering/streaming. Jess, the housekeeper/contact, was especially helpful as she answered us immediately when we asked for a possible contact/recommendation for a vet due to one of our dogs recurring health issues which thankfully we didn’t have to use. We were touched when next day Jess got in touch asking about our dog. We found Jess very approachable and she was a plus to the experience of the cottage itself. Overall, we would recommend the cottage and have said if we stay in Cornwall again that Hollow Tree Cottage would be the place we would book again. Excellent from start to finish.

Hello, first: I definitely recommend this house. Our stay was wonderful despite bad weather. The beds, linens, mattresses are excellent. The bathrooms and towels are excellent. The cleanliness was very good. It was pleasantly warm, the showers were excellent and the water was hot. Yes, some of the dishes are damaged, but there are tons of them. There are also more than sufficient numbers of beautiful glasses, cutlery and appliances. The appliances, the stove are excellent. Everything is well organized, there is a drawer with tools, there are even a few light medications for emergencies. Everything neatly sorted. The stylish plexiglass chairs look great, but should be handled with care, one already had a crack that we sorted out in advance. Nevertheless, the backrest of one chair broke off!! Thank God nothing happened to us. The beautiful couch upstairs actually needs to be cleaned, it smells really unpleasant. The wooden chairs on the terrace are partly rotten, you can put one of the numerous blankets over them. Parking and the driveway onto the property are unproblematic (VW Passat, Touran). The path down to the beach can only be used by experienced hikers.

First time staying in Porthtowan with our families and found it the perfect location/ base to explore from. The cottage was beautiful, clean and well equipped. First time we haven't had to go our to buy anything that we needed. The beds were so comfortable and having multiple showers, WC's helped a party size such as ours hugely. Porthtowan is stunning, small, quaint and met all of our needs. As we ventured out most days, we didn't get to sample the restaurants or bars. We enjoyed trips out to Lands End, St Ives, Falmouth, St Agnes, Truro, Penzance and Newquay. All very different and enjoyable. Highly recommend a day trip to Tintagel. Lots of lovely walks in Porthtowan especially the views! All in all, we would recommend staying at the cottage again. Cornwall Hideaways have been fabulous and we loved the welcome package. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful cottage!

I have been going to Porthtowan for the last 12 years with my family and we have stayed in many different self catering properties in that time. Spring Tide is the best property I have rented which is why I have already booked it for next year. The website was easy to use and the booking process easy and when I called to book for an extra night, the staff were very helpful. The house was clean on arrival and with an extremely well stocked kitchen - plenty of plates and cutlery with alot of space for cooking - great as we eat in all week. All in all a great house for our holiday - as I've said I've already booked for next year!

    • Mr Alan Thorpe - Verified booking

The property was excellent in a truly stunning location. Like all popular rental properties - they eventually need a bit of a refurb / maintenance and arguably some better quality outdoor furniture - which is the only reason we did not score the property as 5’s all round. We would definitely book this property again and if a bit of maintenance could be achieved this property will remain a real gem. The accuracy of the description was fine and we were able to have an excellent holiday at Tonga Our views have been made to simply help inform you to ensure this property stays in tip top condition.
