Have an exciting escape with Peak District self- self-catering holidays

Home to rolling hills, historic market towns, picturesque villages and the UK's oldest National Parks, the Peak District makes for a fantastic staycation or short break away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

As an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, there's plenty to see and do in Peak District beyond its stunning views. Visit charming market towns and stately homes, pop into a local pub for a cosy meal, adventure along the Monsal Trail or get your heart racing by rock climbing or exploring Speedwell Cavern.

Whatever your requirements or budget might be, at Snaptrip, we have a huge range of beautiful Peak District holiday cottages to accommodate them. From picturesque church halls and converted old post offices to dreamy barns and fairytale manor houses, you're sure to find your dream home away from home.

Why choose a Peak District weekend break or staycation?

Whether you're looking for a relaxing holiday away from life's stresses or a trip that will invigorate the senses, the Peak District National Park has something to offer you.

The Peak District is the most visited National Park in the UK. And for very good reason. The area is awash with awe-inspiring countryside, breathtaking moorlands, pretty towns and stone villages, and the dramatic and rugged hills of the White and Dark Peaks.

If you love going on epic walks, you'll be spoilt for choice in the Peak District. The unrivalled natural beauty of the landscape, spectacular mountain scenery, wide valleys, sparkling lakes and rivers, and rolling foothills make the perfect backdrop for your expedition. A particular favourite of ours is the ridge walk in Mam Tor. This scenic walk offers a stunning view over Hope Valley and the Vale of Edale.

To get a taste of the laidback and relaxing life in storybook Peak District villages, why not base yourself in the charming market town of Leek? The sleepy town has lots to offer and is surrounded by incredible countryside. Or why not stay in the sweet village of Bakewell? Treat yourself to a delicious Bakewell tart and spend a day wandering around the stunning Chatsworth House. Buxton is another great choice for where to stay in the Peak District. You'll love mooching around the picture-perfect streets, popping into gorgeous shops and enjoying a pint in an ancient pub.

Located at the head of Hope Valley, the village of Castleton is well worth a visit. You can walk in the surrounding hills and explore the famous show caves. The village looks like it's from the pages of a fairytale, and boasts the Norman ruins of Peveril Castle.

The Peak District is home to some of the finest stately homes in the UK. You can spend your whole trip exploring these grand homes which have hosted and housed royalty throughout the centuries. Some of our favourites include Tissington Hall, which dates back to the 1600s, Bolsover Castle and its incredible grounds and views, and the Elizabethan manor, Chatsworth House, built in the 1560s.

If the National Park is your main reason for visiting the area but you still want to take it easy, add Hope Valley, the Heights of Abraham cable car or the White Peak area of the Southern Peak District to your to-do list. You'll still enjoy the stunning views the Peak District is famous for but at a more relaxed pace.

Or, if you're looking for a wilder experience, head to the Dark Peak moorland. This area of heathland is characterised by its often desolate and exposed landscape, studded with idyllic fields of blooming heather.

With so much to see and do in the Peak District, you'll only wish your trip could last longer.

Find your perfect Peak District holiday cottage

When you've spent your days exploring the sights, villages, and attractions the Peak District offers, there's nothing better than heading home to your cosy holiday cottage. Cook up a feast, relax in the garden, take a dip in your hot tub, or chat the night away in front of a crackling log fire.

Our extensive range of Peak District holiday cottages includes holiday homes with modern features like underfloor heating, off-road parking and unspoilt countryside views from the sitting room.

We have contemporary houses with indoor heated swimming pools and games rooms, and rustic cottages ideal for a romantic retreat. If you're looking for family-friendly self-catering accommodation, a holiday home with enough room for large groups or somewhere dog-friendly with a private garden and unique features like a dog shower, you're in luck! • John - Verified booking

This is a lovely cottage situated in Holmfirth next to local walks in the woods with a few amenities (takeaways, bars and a coop) all within walking distance.

A short drive away to Holmfirth village and several walks that are suitable for off lead walking with the dogs. The property is as listed, furnishings are modern and the property is clean. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it for anyone wanting to use the cottage as a base for exploring the Peak District. We are only giving it a 4 star for reasons related to the garden that won’t be relevant to all guests. First we have 2 dogs and we usually like to relax in the garden with them with a few drinks after a day out walking. The garden in this property is very small at the rear of the property with a fence and locked gates either side to the neighbouring properties (I assume this is for access due to the terraced nature of the properties which back onto a high wall). The garden has fake grass and isn’t really a place we felt we could relax in. It was really only suitable to let the dogs out for a quick morning business as the neighbour’s rottweiler would growl and snarl at our dogs through the fence. I don’t blame the rottweiler, they are only doing a good job of guarding their territory but it was a bit intimidating for my two boxers. If the garden situation isn’t a concern for other guests then I’d definitely recommend the property.

      Christmas 2024 - Two adults, 4yo and a dog.

This was our first time going away over Christmas and we absolutely loved it. The cottage is in the perfect, quiet location in the dales with a small brook running alongside it. Waking up Christmas morning to that sound and overlooking tranquil fields was idyllic to say the least. Property was great - kitchen and lounge were good size for us and has everything you need for a base in the Peaks. Owners even had a real Christmas tree up for us which was a lovely touch. Made it magical for our daughter. Two bedrooms and bathroom upstairs were very comfortable. You will get a great sleep here and very hot bath. Door to property is cold and it took a day or so to get the heating right, but the radiators have thermostatic valves so after a couple of adjustments it was perfect. Recommend changing upstairs radiators to 3 and having thermostat in the kitchen set to 19 during the day. Location wise it is excellent - you are in a very quiet area with a pretty much unknown dale walk right on the doorstep, but then it's just 15 mins drive to Bakewell and only 30 mins to Chatsworth. Thank you to the owners for an excellent place to have our Christmas stay. We already looked into coming back in January for a couple of days

      A review of two halves.

The Love Nest is an ample sized 2 person property on a complex of other holiday lets. The maintenance guy, is super friendly and an asset to the complex without a doubt. The Love Nest is quirky inside, but this has overshone practicality. There are no internal doors, so privacy is not an option. The main room housing the bed and lounge area leads straight into the bathroom without a door, which means at night you are woken with the bathroom light being on should you need to use the toilet. The toilet doesn’t have a door either so you will “hear” your partner in there as no soundproofing, the curtain to draw across is un hygienic , you pull across to give a little modesty but having using the toilet means you touch the curtain before washing your hands after. Not hygienic at all. The bath is modern and sleek but super slippy, be careful, I slipped and found it un relaxing at all. For safety I would provide an anti slip mat, I’m not old and found this a hazard. We used the swimming pool and games room daily, a great addition to the complex, but does need some tlc. Overall, I would return but some adjustments to Love Nest are needed. I can’t comment on the other properties, but they looked nice.

We stayed in this lovely little terrace for 2 nights.

On arrival it wasn't too hard to find. Parking is just on the road outside of the property. The first thing we noticed when we opened the door unfortunately was a very strong smell of damp and wet dog. For some reason this smell was only downstairs in the property where as upstairs smelt quite pleasant. Felt rather uncomfortable as I have a very sensitive nose. So didn't cook anything in the property and took food upstairs to eat as I couldn't bare the smell. We bought a can on dog smell deodorising spray with us and even went to a local shop and bought a candle and left the downstairs window open throughout our stay but the smell did not subside. I'm not sure whether we got unlucky maybe from the previous people who visited but I can honestly say this put a huge downer on our stay as the weather was awful and we couldn't go out much. The area itself was lovely and there was a lovely burger restaurant and barkery in Holmfirth and we visited the local reservoir with our dogs which was beautiful.

The Love Nest is a nice idea, but not very well executed.

While aesthetically pleasant, it lacks basic amenities (no firewood/kindling for the fire, no sponges or cloths for the sink etc) and isn't particularly practical. If you need to use the bathroom at night, you should take a torch because the lights will blast straight into the bedroom unobstructed as there is no door (just a cast-iron gate), and the toilet is divided by a curtain with no light of its own. The bathtub itself is rather dangerous without a bathmat too; you can realistically only get one person in the middle over the plug as laying back is essentially impossible. The outdoor lights were on for the whole night, and while I will credit the owners for sorting that out upon notification, it left us sleepless the next day. Negatives aside, the owners were very apologetic for our complaints and wanted to offer other options for accommodation, but we cut our stay short on the first night of four. I can speak for the sincerity of the owners, and hope they venture to refine this property.
