What our customers say about their holidays

      A beautiful cottage.

Great location, car park around back £15 for week. Quaint front garden. On arrival before we had even unpacked I had to ring Sykes to say it had not been cleaned very well. Stain on bedding, bathroom mirrors you could not see through, dirty cutlery and kitchen cupboards, mould in a casserole dish, this was to name a few. Welcome pack of half open jar of coffee and teabags, a packet of choc nuts all but 3 eaten out of them! Thank goodness no one had a nut allergy!!!! 2 bags of crisps and miniature marmalade! Skye’s got the caretakers daughter to come and do a re clean, even she agreed that this was not up to standards and did a quick clean upstairs, this was now about 5pm ish, we appreciated her coming and gave her £20 for having to try and rectify someone’s else’s cleaning, if she had done all the cleaning that wanted doing she would have been there a good 4hours. I cleaned the cutlery and draw, wiped all the kitchen down, found half used garlic behind trays, food left in end cupboard ( which I left) there was cake in bedroom draws, sweet wrappers under bed, coat hangers and someone’s knee bandage on book case in lounge!! The list is endless, I have photos to prove all this too. Good grief this property wasn’t cheap to stay in. The owners have lovingly restored this cottage and put good quality furniture in, what a shame for it not to be maintained the way it should be. Before I left I hoovered lounge and kitchen took photos to prove I left it looking nice. Hopefully the cleaner will hoover all corners that’s not been done in months! What a shame. Would have been nice for Skye’s to have told the owners of our grumbles on that Saturday, but they said we complained the day before departure, that was our second email. The caretaker also should have come to see it too, his daughter even took photos. Very disappointed how we have been treated.

We spent a weekend at "The Stang Hideaway" in August, for a relaxing 3-night stay with my partner and our little dog.

The views were gorgeous, and the location was as peaceful as a library on a snowy day. But there were a few surprises that gave us a good laugh! First off, the wine cooler was ice-cold—unlike the fridge, which was warm enough to double as a sauna . If you’re planning to brew some coffee, don't forget to bring your own coffee pods; the same goes for dishwasher tablets as there was non available and the free washing up liquid was limited to a very small bottle (use sparingly). The "fully equipped" kitchen was a bit like a game of culinary hide-and-seek, with basic items playing hard to get. And if you’re using the breakfast bar or that “sumptuous” sofa, be prepared to get very close to your partner—like, "hope-you-really-love-each-other" close, perfect if your on a romantic break! Now, let’s talk Wi-Fi. Remember the days of dial-up internet? If you’re feeling nostalgic, you’re in luck—this Wi-Fi will take you right back to the 90s with its charmingly slow speeds which can cause the TV to frequently show the circle of death when it tries to catch up, perhaps it was intentional to create a romantic atmosphere. The outside decking is lovely, but it could use a gate to be truly dog-friendly. And don't be surprised if you step outside to find a crowd in the treehouse—it’s open to everyone on the park, so you might end up with an audience for your morning coffee or romantic sunset. All in all, it was clean and the tranquility was delightful, the stay didn’t quite match up to the price given there’s a lot of competition in the area. Here’s hoping for some improvements in the future, but hey, we still enjoyed the peace and quiet and lovely views!

Very convenient for Central Richmond and all it has to offer and also access by foot to good riverside walks.

It is a lovely property and as the instruction book advises the house warms up well and seems to retain heat. ( Thick walls helps with this ) The exception is that the kitchen radiator cannot be turned on. It's okay if cooking with the cooker or you have to leave the sitting room door open. However, that then cools down the sitting room. Thankfully, the weather turned very cold only the day we departed. We found the furniture and beds comfortable. (Even the one settee that was well used and dipped. That became my spot) More wine glasses would be advisable, only three when we arrived and one broke in the dishwasher. We bought two more. Some microwave dishes, potato peeler would be good otherwise utensils were well catered for. There was dish washing tabs available but no washing machine tabs. I know it is self catering but often there are some available at cottages we rent. The welcome pack on arrival was good thank you. We were mixed family and friends staying so not having locks or a bolt in the toilet/shower rooms is not good. We had to make signs for the doors and tell folk that if the doors were closed it was in use. Re parking, we off loaded the cars at the gate with warning lights on. We paid £15 to park the car for a week in Nunns Close Car Park. Very close to the property. (£15.20 if you use Ring Go App ) A good week was had.

This is a lovely property and we’ve stayed here twice now.

It’s a lovely location and very convenient for visiting Yorkshire and beyond. On the whole we enjoyed our stay but this time we were unfortunately disappointed with the cleanliness of the crockery, the grill pans were all greasy and bits of burnt stuff in them, the frying pans were all burnt and warped and the cupboard storing them was all broken. Both showers and the sinks did not drain properly and almost flooded over on several occasions and so we couldn’t properly shower or enjoy a nice shower .. since we stayed last time we felt the place needed a deep clean. All that said, this IS a lovely cottage and one in which the owners have obviously invested a lot of money in. The linen was all clean and fresh and there was a lovely welcome basket with doggy treats for our dog when we arrived which was nice. This property has nice amenities like a dish washer and washing machine, sky tv etc … it’s very comfortable although maybe the sofas could be freshened? The property is in an ideal location for setting off on day trips with the dales and the A1 nearby … all in all we enjoyed our stay and I have to say when I notified the owners about the issues above they replied promptly and said they were on to it. I hope they do because all this property needs is regular TLC and maybe renewing pots and pans every so often! Thanks for the stay x

The property is beautiful and very clean!

!! The bathroom is gorgeous and the bathtub is a key feature. I loved having the bathroom door open to the outside overlooking the wheat field while soaking in the tub. Bed was very comfortable. Only a couple of things that need a little work. The owners would benefit from staying, cooking and cleaning there for a few days as there are some essentials missing such as dishcloths, dish rack to dry dishes, dish washer tablets and we may have needed more than one roll of loo roll. It didn’t hinder our stay too much, but it lost a bit of that luxury feel someone has worked hard to make. The other thing is, the photos are a little deceptive and don’t show you are attached to a caravan park at the back. It’s still secluded and very quite but attached to a caravan park that appears to hold people’s mobile caravans. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend but would encourage the owners to look at little essentials.
