What our customers say about their holidays

    • Michelle - Verified booking

      Lovely cottage, perfect little break.

Parked in the Market Square upon arrival and spoke to the friendly owners, Jonathan and Claire for directions. The cottage is very simple to find. The location is perfect, as it is away from the hustle and bustle of the Main Street, so no traffic noise and very peaceful for a good night's sleep. The cottage is very attractive, very clean and on 3 levels. Ground floor has a nice lounge and inglenook fireplace, with an easy to use wood burner (easier than ours anyway!) and a well equipped modern kitchen. There is also a private small yard with seating, which was a bonus, as some of the neighbouring cottages appear to have no outdoor space...or just a bench at the front. Large double bedroom and large bathroom with bath and shower on the 1st level. A further large double bedroom on the 2nd floor with fantastic views to the fells. Parking was not an issue for us. We either parked by St Mary's church or up the hill beyond the Orange Tree pub. Usually spaces free up once the day trippers have left. Kirkby Lonsdale is a lovely little market town with plenty of options for food and drinks. Tip: No 9 Restaurant has a lovely sunny courtyard and between 12.00 and 15.00 has 2 'tapas' (more Korean/Thai fusion rather than Spanish) for £10, which are large and beautifully presented. Also had superb Ribeye steak from Dales butchers just down the lane. Excellent visit to Kirkby Lonsdale overall and would both recommend and return to Back Cottage.

Such a lovely cottage well equipped and very clean and cosy.

We have stayed in Kirkby Lonsdale a few times but this cottage has been the best so far. Excellent location everything in walking distance no problems with parking and good we could pull up outside to load and unload our belongings . Lovely inglenook fireplace with log burner but didn't use as weather good. Cottage very warm didn’t need heating as seems to hold heat. Very quiet so good nights sleep was had by all . No need to take food as shop just around corner and booths just 10 min walk so buy as you need as both open till late. The butchers is excellent selling very good sausage and bacon and the pork pies are to die for .Lots of good pubs and places to eat on doorstep so no need for taxis. Had a few meals at orange tree which is further up the hill from church . Wed is steak night rump steak with all trimming £15 excellent value and very good quality.staff very nice too. Brewery is good for drinks , make sure ask for beer card get a stamp when buy their beer. Buy 9 pints get 10th one free can use throughout stay . The Milk Parlour ice cream shop is a must best ice cream I have ever had. We had a fantastic time and will definitely back. Thank you Claire your cottage is a credit to you .

Back Cottage is an ideal cottage for the family and the dog.

It was just the two of us and the dog. It was a very comfortable cottage over 3 floors. More of a town house. Beautiful yorkshire stone building. The view from the top back window (bedroom) is like a painting. Rightly so a stool is in place and you can sit and daydream out the window to such a beautiful view. It is exquisite. The cottage is near Salt Pie Lane. Beautiful cobbled little lane to the main part of Kirby Lonsdale. We have visited Kirby Lonsdale a lot and will definitely go back to Back Cottage. Very clean, very comfortable, very well cared for. It has everything you need for a short break. So much to do and see in Kirby Lonsdale and this cottage is ideal for anyone who has a dog. It has a little back courtyard with a little table and chairs if weather nice you could sit out and have your breakfast although small it is ideal. Our dog loved all the walks around the countryside and beyond. Lovely comfy bed on top floor . We did not use bed in middle floor. Beautiful log fire. So we had logs on such a lovely atmosphere in the evening sitting peacefully reading my book. Highly recommended. Top class for a visit for any family and the dog. We will be returning.

The property was as described and was well equipped.

The stairs are certainly steep! A few small issues: The sofa was very marked and could do with a clean; on an evening the property seemed very cold and whilst this is expected in an old stone built property the notes about the use of the central heating were a bit vague. The information provided said the heating was set to come on and go off at certain times although these times were not provided so I had no idea whether to over-ride the settings by putting the ‘boost’ facility on or just wait and see when it came on. Also the property is described as being ‘dog friendly’ but a sign on the stairs said ‘No dogs upstairs please’, and with this property being so small (downstairs consisted of just the one through room approximately 25 foot, including kitchen area) it meant my dog was limited to just the one room. If the property details had stated that dogs weren’t allowed upstairs I wouldn't have booked it. However the property is in an ideal position for walks along the river and has wonderful views, and for these reasons I may well arrange another visit.

Beautiful cottage, in a beautiful town, but it needs some tlc.

The frying pans are not fit for use, they are scratched to pieces, the sofa is stained and the left recliner is broken. The heating and hot water isn't warm enough. Theres a sign saying no dogs upstairs, the booking did not say that, we would not have booked there if we had known. We struggled to find parking twice during our stay. The TV is the smallest TV I have ever seen and the remote doesn't work properly. It's also positioned so that if you're laying on the sofa you cant see the screen properly. The fridge door didn't shut properly, but the owner fixed that when we asked. The radiator in the bedroom didn't work, but the owner had that fixed when we asked. But the main issue for us was that the WIFI didn't work downstairs. Mobile data is also non existent so planning our days out and routes for the next day was impossible. We asked 3 times for this to be rectified, but apparently this wasn't an issue before we arrived...
