Guests say

The Shippon is a beautifully converted, modern cottage in a peaceful rural setting, ideal for couples and dog owners seeking tranquillity. Guests praise its spacious, well-equipped interiors, large secure garden, and comfortable bed. The property is well located for exploring the Lake District and surrounding areas, though a car is essential. While most found the cottage clean and inviting, some noted issues with dust, cobwebs, and occasional maintenance needs. Thoughtful touches such as welcome gifts were appreciated by some guests. Overall, it offers a relaxing and enjoyable countryside retreat.

Many guests found the property clean and well-presented, but several reviews mention dust, cobwebs, and occasional lapses in cleaning standards, particularly in harder-to-reach areas and on furniture. Some also noted stained tiles and a lack of mattress cover. Cleanliness is generally good but could be improved.

The cottage is praised for its peaceful, rural location with beautiful surroundings and easy access to the Lake District and local towns. Guests appreciate the tranquillity, though note that a car is necessary for shops and walks, as amenities are not within walking distance.

Guests consistently highlight the comfortable bed, spacious layout, and underfloor heating. Some mention issues with sofa wear, mattress comfort, and temperature control, but overall, the property is considered very comfortable for a relaxing stay.

The cottage is well-equipped with modern appliances, a large secure garden, and thoughtful amenities. Some guests experienced minor maintenance issues such as loose chair legs, a broken kettle, and alarm sensor lights, but these did not significantly detract from the overall experience.

Several guests appreciated welcome touches such as a bottle of wine, coffee pods, and snacks, though these are not guaranteed. The property is generally well-prepared for guests, but some noted slow host responses and outdated emergency contact information.

Cleanliness wasnt perfect tiles on floors need something doing with them, badly stained. One of the 2 garden chairs was rusty and leg collapsed on day two. Despite ringing the caretaker number twice and left messages nobody contacted us.Saw cleaner when leaving she said would ring owner. Still no communication from anyone.Garden was perfect for dog and property has a lot of potential just needs some tlc.

We had a lovely stay at the Shippon, it was very well equipped and had a very big garden which was perfect for our dog. The only downside was there was a lot of dust and cobwebs and the alarm in the bedroom was quite irritating as anytime you moved in the night it would flash and be really bright. Other than that we would definitely return 😊

We loved "The Shippon" and would have given 5 stars except for the lack of proper cleaning. On arrival everything seems clean but as we settled in we noticed lots of cobwebs and dust especially in the bedroom which is the last place you want it. Not good for anyone with any sort of breathing problems or allergy to dust. The lounge area was superficially clean but behind the furniture looks as though it was never touched. Another thing that really surprised us was the lack of a mattress cover. There was only a loose sheet. I would not use my bed at home without a mattress cover and for obvious hygiene reasons would definitely expect one in holiday rental property.
