What our customers say about their holidays

    • Kimberley - Verified booking

This is a great sized lodge for a family of 4.

We had enough room between the bedrooms and the large family bathroom and en-suite. Nice decor and upon arrival it seemed great. Location is great some really local activities to do with young children. The safari zoo in Ulverston was great and Sizergh Castle was only a short drive too. The site is well kept and there is a nice walk around the lake and was very quiet. The cleanliness of the lodge was not acceptable. Upon arriving the lodge seemed clean and tidy. Until I sat down on the carpet with my children and stood up to be covered in dog hairs. I understand that the lodge does accept pets and we as a family have had dogs previously but it felt as though the carpet needed a deep clean. I attempted to the hoover the carpet but the hoover was not picking up. I emptied it and still it wasn’t picking up. This meant that we were not able to hoover before we left. There was a brush but it was snapped in half. On day three of our stay there were a lot of ants in the en-suite and were crawling all over the bath matt. There was some ant spray in the kitchen but it would more appropriate to deal with the issue and attempt to get rid of the ants. The dining room table legs were loose and we discovered this as it had to be pulled out for the 4 of us to sit at. The toilet brushes in both bathrooms need to be replaced as they were very dirty and they should be replaced more regularly. The en-suite bathroom had brown marks/stains on the floor around the location of the toilet brushes that made it feel very unclean and unkempt. The en-suite shower in the bathroom had mould marks around its edge and the doors were very dirty in the corners. The edge around the bath had holes in it and was damaged. The couches in the living area at extremely uncomfortable and so was the bed in the master bedroom. It felt as though the property was used a lot but not maintained well. This is frustrating as I have noticed that a review in December stated similar issues. We did try to make contact but the only number I could find in the booking information was a number for Sykes. I was not able to see a direct number to contact the owner. We left the holiday early as our eldest son was unwell and we wanted to be somewhere more comfortable for him to recover. We would not return due to the poor maintenance and cleanliness of the property. It was over priced for what we actually stayed in. Very disappointed.

It was lovely and quiet and peaceful during our stay at the lodge.

It was Modern and very well presented and spacious. The lodge is situated in such beautiful surroundings. It has a well equipped kitchen with everything you need and an ample size fridge and freezer where we cooked some lovely evening meals. There is a large Tesco not far away for anything you may need. We had an evening meal in the on-site restaurant which was excellent. You need to book in advance. If you like a takeaway they're available locally too. The site is an ideal base for seeing what the area has to offer. We had beautiful weather for September and we found so much to do during our stay. Ingleton waterfalls trail was a wonderful day out and definitely worthy of a visit but be prepared for a lot of walking to get round one of the routes, but it's so worth it. The waterfalls are stunning. Crazy golf at Greenlands was fun and less than 5 mins drive from the site. Warton Crag Local Nature Reserve is less than 10 mins away. Rspb Leighton moss is less than 15 mins drive. Lakeland Wildlife Oasis is just over 5 mins drive away and is a fabulous place to visit. There is so much to see both inside and outside. There are organised talks throughout the day and the staff were very knowledgeable. The snow leopards were a real treat to see. Lancaster Castle is around 20 minutes drive. We booked onto a tour which was very good. Morecambe Bay is just 20 mins drive also. We also took a boat ride tour from Windemere Lake visiting Ambleside and stopped off at the Windermere Jetty Museum which has a cafe and was lovely to sit outside taking in the glorious views. We also booked an extra small boat trip at the jetty museum, with personal guides which was excellent. The Lakeland motor museum was fabulous. There was so much to see, with gorgeous homecooked food and treats in the cafe too! We had a wonderful time at the lodge and have booked our next visit!

Initial expectations looked good images online and from outside property.

On entering the property we had an issue of not receiving the cot & highchair that was ordered at booking (this was Sykes fault for not providing the information to the owner). However on contact with Sykes the cot & highchair had arrived within a hour. We also reported an issue with the en-suite bathroom as it had a pile of wood chip swept into the side of room, as if work had just been completed, on closer look this pile had around ants running around this and under the pedestal. Sykes contacted the owner and he phoned me and again arrived within the hour with ant spray and catchers. Sadly the vacuum wasn’t picking up properly (on later investigation the hoover was jammed packed and required emptying, the filter required washing as was thick with dust), this the reason the hoover wasn’t working properly. In the end we decided not to use the en-suite since we had the main bathroom. The only place we could fit the cot was against the en-suite door with the main bedroom door open. We will say this lodge is not really suitable for anyone with an infant needing a cot, but would be fine for older children who can sleep in the second bedroom. It is also not suitable for disabled people or anyone who cannot walk far, as you have to walk to the property to get the keys and fob to enter through the gate. I would say thank you for the fantastic speed of service & a bottle of Prosecco from the owner Stephen, it was a lovely gesture. Sadly this property wasn’t for us, this won’t stop us returning to the area.

I’m not sure where to start.

The pictures alone of the pod were beautiful, but actually being there in person was just something else. The location is stunning! Waking up in the morning to views of the fields, viaduct and hills, was just beautiful! Relaxing in the hot tub under the stars. The pod itself was just adorable! I went with my two children, and I worried that being pretty much in the middle of nowhere would mean they’d struggle to be entertained, however they were just so taken in with where they were, and chatting the sheep that surrounded the site, that they never seemed to struggle to find entertainment. The walk from the pods to The Station Inn pub is a lovely, scenic short walk, and the food at the bar is second to none, again with stunning views of the surrounding area. There is also plenty to do in the surrounding areas that don’t require too far of a car journey, so many walks to go on, the caves are just 10 minutes down the road, and Lakeland Maise Maze is just 40 minutes away, perfect day out for families! All in all, I could not recommend this place enough, the owners and cleaners were extremely helpful! And the experience itself was just phenomenal. We will 100% be returning! If you’re an outdoors type of person and find beauty in nature, then this is 100% a must for an experience!

I am very disappointment that i have checked out of the lodge and received an unexpected £180 cleaning bill because i left a bag of rubbish, 2 bowls to be washed and not hoovered the carpet or made the beds.

I was sent a picture of the bed not made, some crumbs on the carpet and a bowl to be washed and a bag of rubbish. Surely when every person checks out of the lodge you get it deep cleaned surely that’s in the price you pay when booking? Surely you Wash/change the bedding? & Sanitise all the kitchen, bedrooms bathroom? Surely you don’t rely on the people renting the lodge to make sure it’s at a high cleaning standard for the people next checking in? As that’s very very unhygienic & you should be getting the lodge deep cleaned after every stay! I came away with my 4 year daughter who’s currently on chemotherapy & my son who’s 8 to have a few days respite between my daughters treatments I thought we could go away and enjoy some time together we rushed back the morning of check out and left a couple of bowls to be washed & beds not made and a bag to be disposed and we have been charged £180 I find this disgusting. I have never stayed anywhere where I have been left responsible for cleaning the property to an inch of it life before checking out. When booking there is nowhere that states if I don’t clean the lodge I will be charged. It says if there is damage I will be charged and there was no damage to the property! I expect cleaning fee to be returned to my account immediately.
