Guests say

The Smithy is a cosy and comfortable cottage in Matlock, appreciated for its warm atmosphere, beautiful decor, and convenient location for exploring the Peak District. Guests enjoy the large kitchen, open fire, and outdoor space with stunning views. The property is well-loved and considered a great base for walking and visiting nearby towns.

The cottage is generally clean, but some guests noted it could benefit from a deep clean to address cobwebs and a refresh of certain areas. The overall impression is positive, with a few suggestions for improvement.

The location is highly praised for its beauty and convenience, with easy access to the Peak District, local villages, and attractions like Alton Towers. The surrounding countryside and village setting are consistently appreciated.

Guests find the cottage warm, cosy, and comfortable, with a homely feel. Some guests suggest the mattresses could be updated, but overall, the comfort level is regarded as high.

The facilities are mostly well-received, with a well-equipped kitchen and a lovely fireplace. However, there are mentions of minor improvements needed, such as the addition of pint glasses and large bowls, and a notable absence of a washing machine despite it being listed.

While guests have not specifically mentioned gifts, the host's provision of fuel for the open fire indicates thoughtfulness. However, as there is no direct reference to gifts, a score cannot be provided.

Our second stay at this wonderful cosy & comfortable cottage. Well placed for walking and visiting Bakewell, Buxton, Ashbourne etc with plenty of great walks close by. The Gate Inn is as characterful as any pub you will find with reasonably priced pub food and good beer. Helpful host who kindly provided fuel for the open fire. Thoroughly recommended.

Beautiful cottage, exactly what we were looking for. The Smithy is clearly loved and made to be lived in. The décor is thoughtful and homey with beautiful pieces of furniture which fit perfectly in the space. The kitchen was lovely and large with everything needed for homey meals. The fireplace was so lovely and the wood, coal and firestarters were so convenient. My parents had a wonderful time.
