Guests have had a delightful experience at The Beeches, praising its cosy atmosphere, beautiful setting, and attentive owners. The cottage's cleanliness, peaceful location, and comfortable interiors are consistently highlighted. Its garden is well-maintained and appreciated by both guests and their pets. While some minor suggestions for improvements are noted, the overall sentiment is highly positive.
The property is repeatedly described as clean, with one guest noting it was 'spotless'. However, a mention of lacking cleaning tools slightly impacts the perfect score.
The location is celebrated for its beauty and tranquillity, offering lovely views and proximity to sightseeing and walks. No negative comments about the location were provided.
Guests find the cottage warm, comfortable, and well-equipped, contributing to a pleasant stay. The garden adds to the comfort, especially on sunny days.
Facilities are generally good, but there is feedback suggesting the need for a working hoover and a mop and bucket. A welcome booklet with local recommendations would be beneficial.
While the owners are described as attentive and helpful, there are no specific mentions of gifts or extra thoughtful touches that would warrant a score in this category.
Winster 3.1 miles. The Beeches is a lovely, contemporary, detached dormer bungalow next to a working dairy farm and surrounded by beautiful countryside in the village of Aldwark, near Winster in Derbyshire. The Beeches is tastefully-finished throughout, making it perfect for a group of friends or family to enjoy this fabulous area of the Peak District National Park. The two double bedrooms are situated on the ground floor with a bathroom next door, making it suitable for a member of the group who is less mobile. The twin bedroom is on the first floor and benefits from an en-suite shower room as well as lovely views across the farm and surrounding countryside. The sleek kitchen has everything you need including a very useful breakfast bar with stools ideal for feeding little ones (and big ones for that matter!). There’s an inviting sitting room with a tasteful, glowing woodburning stove and a large dining table ideal for a banquet. From here, patio windows open out to the enclosed garden that wraps around the cottage so there’s always a chance to catch the sun wherever you are. There’s a porch for hanging kit and boots or drying off Fido and there’s also a secure shed if you wish to take bikes with you. It’s a perfect place to chill out, however there are loads of choices to make your stay action packed with plenty of walks including the High Peak Trail and the historic Minninglow planting, just a short hop from the property. The beautiful village of Winster and the heritage rich Cromford are easily reached by car, whilst the activities of Carsington Water are also located just a few miles away. Alternatively, for a good day out, head to Gulliver’s Kingdom at Matlock Bath, as well as Matlock, Bakewell, Monsal Head, and the picturesque town of Ashbourne, known as the Gateway to the Dales. Other places nearby and well-worth visiting are Haddon Hall, Chatsworth House, and Kedleston Hall. For even more enjoyment, a little further afield you’ll find Alton Towers, which will provide fun for all. The Beeches provides relaxing accommodation in a splendid part of the country, making it a great base for a family holiday any time of the year.
The conservation village of Winster is situated within the White Peak area of the Peak District National Park and is an extremely pretty place, with a charming 17th century market house at its centre, and other imposing 17th and 18th century houses, many three storeys high. The three main streets - Main Street, East Bank and West Bank are interconnected by alleyways known as ‘ginnels’, which are well worth exploring. The village of Winster is famous for its Morris dancers, the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race, Wakes festivities in June, and the Secret Gardens of Winster event in July. Within the village there is a well-stocked, community-owned general store incorporating a Post Office. There are two pubs, both serving food and traditional beer. Bakewell, Matlock, Chatsworth House, and the Peak Rail Steam Railway are all nearby and, for keen walkers and cyclists, The Limestone Way runs along the edge of the village. The Tissington and High Peaks walking and cycling trails, with bike hire available, both lie less than 5 miles from the village, a wonderful base for exploring the Peak District.

We had everything we needed in the house, and enjoyed sitting in the lovely garden on sunny days. The secure enclosed garden gave us peace of mind when our dogs were outside. Jane and Colin were extremely helpful in sorting out a couple of problems: nothing was too much trouble.

Would benefit from a welcome booklet with recommendations of places to eat and visit . We tried to leave it spotless but there wasnât a working hoover or mop and bucket . Also be nice to have a review book to see where other guests have enjoyed to visit and good restaurants. When you arenât a local nice for recommendations ! Overall a lovely stay and it was spotless
