What our customers say about their holidays

    • Christopher - Verified booking

Despite the fantastic location and potential of the house, we were left really disappointed by our stay at Casita.

Our holiday did not have the most auspicious start - as we arrived we received an email to say the dishwasher was out of action and we could see the outside bin was overflowing with unbagged rubbish, cardboard and broken glass. When we got inside the first thing we saw was the pedal to the indoor bin sat on top of it and dry dog food on the floor and counter top! Moreover we realised that we couldn't lock the porch door which would allow easy access to the main road for our inquisitive toddler - to be fair to Menai Cottages they sent someone out quickly who set about a temporary solution for this, but sadly there was no solution for the bin other than to await it's being emptied on the Wednesday. This meant we had to store all our rubbish in the hallway as there was no alternative space or bin. The house was generally clean and tidy, although the fridge had all water at the bottom which I had to mop up several times over the course of the week. The beds were comfortable and clean, but the sofas were not sadly and this meant only two people could sit in the living room in the evening. Overall the house needs some attention - paint was literally peeling off the banisters, the downstairs shower had to be cellotaped to stay upright, the laminate flooring in the hallway is not fixed on the threshold of the dining room so continually had to be put back in place and the gripper has come away on the hallway carpet into one of the bedrooms. I tripped on this several times so would hate someone to sustain a more serious injury. The kitchen, whilst spacious is actually impractical and ill equipped. The sparse amount of cups and crockery is difficult to reach in a daft corner cupboard and a lot of it was chipped. The blind cords were impossible to reach so the blinds were pointless. There were no oven gloves so we had to buy some along with more tea towels as the one provided was not enough, especially with the dishwasher out of action all week. The frying pan was not big enough for a family of 6, all the pegs on the washing line were rotten and the knives were useless even once sharpened. All of these things, though seemingly trivial could be easily remedied by a quick visit to Wilko (maybe not) or Argos and were not up to the standard of previous cottages we have stayed in through Sykes. I really wanted to like this house, but it just failed to deliver. I feel the owners need to spend some time, money and attention on it to allow it to fulfill it's potential.

Having stayed at this property last year, we have no issues at all with the location, comfort or cleanliness of the apartment.

However there were a number of things which have dampened our enthusiasm and taken the shine from our holiday experience. We were aware that there was a building plot at the rear of the property and were astounded to find that construction work was underway and lasted throughout our visit. This involved large mechanical diggers, welding of steel girders, cement mixing and vehicles entering and exiting the site. It made use of the outside space virtually impossible due to the noise and dust. We are extremely disappointed that this was not mentioned prior to our visit. We did send an email to Menai Holidays to advise of the unsatisfactory situation and received a phone call back from Anthony COR-175923-CF. We have sent photos & videos as evidence but we have not had a reply despite requesting an update. Secondly, the property includes a washing machine which does not work. I mentioned this to the house keeper on day 2 of our visit and supplied the make and model of the machine however nothing was actioned before we left. Thirdly, there are no recycling facilities within the apartment block. We made several journeys to a recycling centre in Benllech to dispose of our recycling. Sadly other guests within the apartment block did not, which led to the general waste bins becoming full & black bin bags being left next to our front door. The seagulls took great delight in shredding the bin bags on a daily basis. Finally, it is unfortunate that as residents of the ground floor you are reliant on the upstairs occupants showing some courtesy during their stay. At times the noise on the ceiling from above was horrendous and when combined with the noise outside made for a very unpleasant experience. Whilst we are happy to recommend the property we would very much welcome your feedback to the issues we have raised. We look forward to hearing back from you shortly.

The apartment was great, everything we needed with plenty of room in the open plan main area.

Lots of nice extras with games, dvds, bits and pieces in kitchen. Great private parking, a real added bonus in the area! Nice to have a little outdoor area for the dog plus the table and chairs to be able to sit out. Towels were lovely and soft, bedding was all good- these little things make all the difference. Great location with fab chippy and Indian plus good pub all on doorstep. Beach was lovely with the dog friendly part at the far end. The thing to ruin our time in the apartment was the people upstairs. Whenever they were home, the young grandson was allowed to literally run riot from 7am until 9pm. Running around continuously, shouting, banging doors. It really did ruin what was meant to be our peaceful holiday when in the apartment in the mornings and evenings. Not your fault but it is the reason we would not book again even though we plan to return to the area and the apartment was absolutely what we would look for in a place to stay. Thank you for making it such a homely place to be. You really have made a good job.

We didn’t find Casita quite up to the standard that I/we would have expected.

We had to wash the crockery , cutlery before use … a bowl was actually stuck to a plate as it had not previously been washed properly!! Some of the glasses , crockery had chips and there wasn’t enough of them e.g there were only 4 wine glasses when the property sleeps 8 therefore in my mind they should have been replaced/ checked ready for the next rental. There were many cobwebs, I understand that it is an old property but these were really big cobwebs especially in the upstairs main bathroom and in the lounge. Generally the place could have been a lot cleaner. At £850 for 2 nights - this is not a cheap holiday let therefore standards should be a lot higher. The carpet in the upstairs twin room had lifted from the door strip which I actually tripped on!! The plug/plug board in the upstairs en suite double room was thick in dust!! The cottage in general is in need of a lot of care and attention.

      Lovely place.

Very clean and spacious. As a party of 6 (2 adults & 4 kids (16,16,10 & 9)) & 2 dogs we had ample space in the bedrooms and living area. The garden was lovely. The dogs had a great time exploring. The kitchen is a good size but could use more cutlery, cups & and crockery. We didn't want to put the dishwasher on until completely full and found we regularly had to wash up which defeats trying to save energy as we needed to heat the water! Not a big issue more an observation. The only negative to our stay was the drains outside. They are blocked and they water that washes back into the lower garden after showering is very unpleasant as it stands it becomes smelly and the dogs walk it back into the house. The location is great for walks and an easy to walk to the beach. All in all a very pleasant few days was had and we can definitely recommend.
