Gorgeous property full of character with potential of being 5*.
Overall we had a fantastic stay but a few things bothered us. Here are the things that could be improved. Full replacement of range oven. We were told the day before the hob was broken. This was a nightmare when cooking for 10 people. We were given a late check out as a gesture of goodwill which was no good to us as we had to go back to work. The x2 temporary hob plates were not great but we had no choice. We relied more on the oven which wasnât super reliable either (uneven heat etc). Maybe just replace the whole thing?! Living room arrangements, the 1 with the working chimney is the one we used the most as it had the big tv and log burner in it. There are 2 sofas and 1 big bean bag, we were a group of 10 so it always meant a few people were sat on the floor or beanbag which is not ideal. We wanted to sit as a group and felt like this set up was better for a group of 6 adults⦠please look at this as at full capacity it would be even worse (groups donât always want to sit in separate rooms). The freestanding bath was something a lot of us wanted to use but it isnât installed at level so it wobbles from side to side, doesnât feel safe, again please look into this.

Outstanding.
We were a family of 8 adults and 4 children together for a special occasion. It was like staying in a National Trust property. Never stopped anywhere like it before. Bedrooms and all rooms were huge and very tastefully decorated. Beds were super comfy and lots of places to sit and relax. Spotlessly clean and very well maintained with one exception - the induction hob wasn't working. We were informed about this beforehand and temporary arrangements made for us so we changed our meal plan. Obviously this could be a big issue - but for us it was not. The only other negative was the top floor bedroom. Great for the kids but we happened to be there on the rare occasion of a lovely summer weekend and the room was extremely warm. A cooling air-con unit in this room is a must! The garden/drive is well laid out, very peaceful, well maintained and with ample tables and chairs - all of which were well used. The property is across the road from the Crown Inn - a lovely pub serving excellent food - very busy so you need to book and both are situated in a lovely little village. I've never written this before but yes I would go back.

We had a wonderful stay at The Old Shop.
It was everything that we had hoped for and more. The layout with a sitting room attached to the kitchen and dining area allowed us to mingle easily and the upstairs room became our quiet area. The games room was great for a bit of friendly competition. Everything worked so well - the kitchen is really well equiped - coped easily with xmas dinner for 9. The place was spotlessly clean, with calm and relaxed decor and lovely and warm. It felt like home from the moment we walked in. The bedrooms are comfortable and cosy. The central heating is zoned and easy to use. As we were having an early Christmas the addition of a beautifully decorated fresh tree was really appreciated. The village and the local area are beautiful with lots of options for walks of all levels. The owner was great at communicating and really helpful in advance of arrival. We are a family of 3 generations and The Old Shop is easily the best house we have rented for our family gathering; we hope to return.

Would highly recommend this property.
Several days before arrival, we received a comprehensive information pack; the detailed instructions on how to find the property were a big help for those guests whose satnav took them to the school! The house is full of charm with many original features, yet has modern kitchen, bathrooms etc. The kitchen was very well equipped and the welcome pack, including doggy treats, was much appreciated. There was plenty of space for our party of 10 plus 2 dogs, and the separate sitting rooms were great for a group that size. The photos don't do justice to the garden, which is extensive and well maintained. There is a dog friendly pub over the road which serves good food. I'm not sure why Sykes advertises this property as having 2 bathrooms - there are definitely 3! The description also doesn't mention the (rather lovely) stairgate which, while not at the foot of the stairs so not perfect for babies/toddlers, keeps the dogs downstairs.

A great house for a family gathering with facilities for different generations to be together in a lovely area .
Super welcoming village, excellent Sunday roast at pub , made to feel welcome at village bonfire . Lovely walks from door ,and many places of interest within about half hour drive . We parked 4cars ( 3 right next to property ) and one just a VERY short walk away . Clear parking instructions given by friendly owner beforehand . Everyone in our family group commented on the relaxing ,spacious house and no one really wanted to leave ! Our visit was in winter and the property was warm and cosy . The games room ( lovely and warm too ! ) was an added bonus . Thank you to the owner Bronwen for really caring about the guests and their needs . ( Great welcoming biccies and beverages .) She even leaves a book for people to suggest any improvements or minor issues needing attention . She/ the management team are contactable for any major issues needing immediate attention . We had none ! We would all go back there !
