Bankside is a beautifully renovated cottage in the picturesque village of Parwich, offering high-quality finishes, stunning views, and a cosy atmosphere. Guests praise its excellent location for exploring the Peak District, comfortable interiors, and proximity to a welcoming local pub. While the driveway is narrow and may challenge larger vehicles, and a few minor cleaning and maintenance issues were noted, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests eager to return.
Most guests found the cottage very clean and well-presented, though a few mentioned minor issues such as crumbs on arrival, a dirty oven, and some mould in a bathroom. These were exceptions rather than the rule.
The location is highly praised for its beautiful village setting, scenic views, and easy access to walks and local attractions. The only drawback is the narrow, steep driveway, which can be tricky for larger vehicles.
Guests consistently mention comfortable beds, a cosy living area, and a homely feel. Some noted the bedrooms are compact and would have preferred extra pillows, but overall comfort is rated very highly.
The cottage is well-equipped with modern kitchens, ensuite bathrooms, and a lovely patio. A few guests noted issues with heating, oven cleanliness, and a lack of some kitchen essentials, but most found the facilities excellent.
Some guests appreciated a welcome bottle of Prosecco, but noted that tea, coffee, and milk were not provided. Please note that such gifts are not guaranteed and may not be included with every stay.

Situated in the very heart of the lovely old village of Parwich, it boasts a delightful pub set on picturesque village green with a church, village hall, playground and many pretty cottages. Parwich dates back to the Saxon times and has an air of peace and tranquillity about it. The local pub is a traditional country pub in the serving cask ales and delicious home cooked food. Not only is it a pub, but should you require your groceries, it serves as the village shop. The nearby Manifold River cuts a course through superb scenery and is a delight for both walkers and cyclists, with the ’Manifold Trail’ following the route of the old Leek to Manifold Light Railway.
Nearby is the pretty village of Ilam, the award-winning village of Alstonefield, and Brassington, while golf, horse riding, cycling and sailing are all available within 7 miles. There are so many days out to enjoy such as Alton Towers, or visit the impressive Chatsworth House and Kedleston and Sudbury Halls. Also within easy reach are Matlock Bath and Carsington Water, while further afield are the market towns of Ashbourne and Leek. This really is the perfect place to stay to enjoy an abundance of things to see and do.

We just wrapped up a wonderful three-night stay in Parwich, and honestly, it was heartbreaking to pack the car and leave. If you’re looking for a quintessentially British countryside getaway, this cottage is an absolute gem.The AccommodationThe cottage itself was stunning—beautifully maintained and much more spacious than we anticipated. The living room provided a cozy hub for relaxing after a long day of exploring, and the kitchen was fantastic, offering plenty of room to cook and socialize without feeling cramped. It felt like a true "home away from home" rather than just a rental.Views & LocationOne of the absolute highlights was spending time on the patio. The views from the property are breathtaking, overlooking the rolling hills of the Peak District. It’s the perfect spot for a morning coffee or a refreshing gin and tonic at sunset. The location is a hiker’s dream, with incredible walks right on the doorstep. You can simply step out the front door and find yourself on beautiful trails without ever needing to touch the car keys.Exploring the AreaWhile Parwich itself is charming, the cottage is perfectly positioned for visiting some of the region's most iconic spots:Dovedale: A must-see for the famous stepping stones.Milldale: A picturesque, tranquil village perfect for a riverside stroll.Tissington: Famous for its hall and well-dressing traditions.Local DiningWe spent our evenings at the local pub, and the food was exceptional. On Saturday evening, we had a delicious meal that really hit the spot, and the Sunday lunch was the perfect way to cap off the weekend—proper comfort food done right.Final VerdictWe were genuinely sad to leave this little slice of heaven. Between the views, the spacious interior, and the unbeatable location, it was everything we hoped for and more. We will definitely be coming back!

One of the best cottages we have stayed in, in the area. Quite close to Ashbourne for shops but lovely in remote.

Great cottage. Quiet, 5 min walk to a very nice pub and views across the Derbyshire dales.
