What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mrs Wilkinson - Verified booking

We stayed for seven days in May 2022. The cottage was well situated for visits to places of interest in the Dales and beyond. As we are mobility-impaired, we spent half our time sitting in the conservatory looking out at the beautifully landscaped garden and watching the many varieties of birds flying back and forth between the trees, bushes, and pond. These included goldfinches and yellow wagtails in the garden, and swallows in the courtyard. Everything we needed for cooking and for relaxation was provided, and we arrived to find a cherry cake and some chocolate cookies, plus fresh carnations from the garden, which was a lovely surprise. There is a petrol station at the end of the lane as you approach the property. There are good Farm Shops nearby which provide take-out and eat-in meals as well as fresh local produce. A tranquil holiday, and we would recommend it.

      A little difficult to find.

Your satnav will take you into a cul-de-sac. Follow the instructions you've been sent to the letter. The apartment is clean and comfortable. Heating is perfect: the thermostat is very efficient. Powerful shower. The bed is firm and comfortable will cool, crisp bed linen. The kitchen is well-equipped. A few gripes which slightly impaired my stay. There is no Sky TV as advertised. Apart from the first freeview channels reception is wobbly and for the last two days the set would not switch on at all. W-fi is intermittent. I had to use my phone as a hotspot and therefore ad to pay for data use. The oven doesn't work. The control knob came off in my hand and inside there were a pair of dirty baking trays. There were only three coathangers. The owner has very limited English so complaining would ave been no use.

Cottage was not quite what I expected It was quite comfortable and the beds and shower room were good, however lack of adequate space to use table was a pain so we had to eat on our laps not something I expected.. The garden being separate from the house caused us problems as our old dog sometimes needs a toilet break during the night and in the wet and windy weather we experienced taking him outside on the lead was far from ideal. This was not made clear on the cottage details and I would have not chosen to stay here had I known. This was not made clear in cottage details. Parking was also not ideal in the bad weather we experienced. Garage was old and tatty and difficult to park in so we parked on the road opposite, also not ideal in bad weather.

The cottage was clean and well equipped.

However, there are two problems with the description of Bronte Cottage. 1. The description of facilities said there is Wi-Fi. There is no Wi-Fi. Had I known that I would not have booked. I would like a partial refund for the inconvenience that caused me. 2. The “patio and garden” was also untrue. There was a dirty and crumbling concreted area behind the cottage accessed by a path around the adjacent property and by steps. The 2 seats and the table were in a very poor state as was the fence around the area. I suspect that if someone leant against the fence they would find themselves quickly fallen 10 feet or more to the field below!

The Old Stables is the perfect location for a couple looking to spend a relaxing few days in the lovely Yorkshire Dales. You can step out of the front door and experience the picturesque countryside with lots of local walks right on your doorstep. It's very quiet with hardly any traffic. The property looks newly renovated with everything you could need in the kitchen. The lounge/bedroom is comfortable and the ideal place to relax in after a long day's walking. The bathroom has a lovely shower. The layout of the property has been very well considered. We had a great stay. Thank you Ruth and Mike for your hospitality.
