What our customers say about their holidays

    • Katrina - Verified booking

We had an absolutely fantastic time, Porthcurno Bay View (which is part of the old hotel apartments) is so much larger and has so much more to offer than the listing on Sykes states.

For example, they provide fans for the heat, hairdryers, a box of board games and a box of traditional games, a whole bookshelf of books, DVDs and Wii games (and the Wii), there is a bar! The kitchen is fully stocked with beautiful plates, cups, cutlery etc and even has herbs, spices, oils etc, on arrival the owners thoughfully left us milk in the fridge, a bottle of prosecco, biscuits, teabags and sugar. Now to the house: I loved sitting in the balcony with the sun on my face looking at the sea, I loved sitting in the conservatory to have my breakfast, the lounge was comfortable and included Sky TV, the downstairs bathroom has a jacuzzi bath (my kids loved that), the beds were comfy, and there were so many beautiful touches around the house, the vases, the flowers, the tissue boxes, the cushions. I highly recommend this lovely apartment/house. I am writing such a full review because when I booked there were only a few reviews and they were very short. I hope this is helpful. In terms of the area Porthcurno is very pretty, so much foliage (reminds me of Spain, so tropical). But be aware it is in the middle of nowhere, there are no shops (nearest is St Buryan - 10 mins drive away). There is a delightful cafe though in walking distance, and the owners there are so welcoming, they knew my name from day 1 and were so lovely to us. Highly recommend their cornish scones (homemade) and cornish pasties. The Beach is a 10 minute walk away (from door to sand) if you are slow and not so fit like me, about 7 mins if you are fitter. Porthcurno is one of the best beaches in Cornwall, we felt lucky to be in walking distance from this beautiful beach, the secret beach which you can reach when the tide is at its lowest, and the Minack Theatre. Beware of tiny roads around this area, it is not easy to drive around if you come from a town/city like we did. For the owners just a couple of tiny things would have made this stay even better (though it was near perfect): butter on arrival (there are no shops), more toilet paper (we ran out, and again no shops), darker blinds (that's just me, I am sensitive to light), lighter quilts as it was hot, plastic plates for the kids (your plates are too nice for them!) and maybe update your listing to include all your wonderful additions (like fans, board games, books etc), because I brought a lot of things I really didn't need and could have saved time and space in the car. Thank you we had a wonderful family holiday.

In common with others we thought the standard of cleanliness throughout, on arrival, was excellent and Emma was very helpful with the queries we had.

A problem, particularly for the older guests, is the distance from the car parking area. In common with many we take our own food and, with the luggage, it would take many trips with heavy loads to transfer everything from the car. It was suggested we could use the back door (on the roadside), with our hazard lights on, which made life easier but could be dangerous if the traffic was heavy. The Electric Heating system is very good although we did need to adjust it up in the Living/Dining area due to the external conditions while we were there. The area adjacent to the external door is a cold spot at times but there is a supplementary heater which can be found under the double bed. The locks on both outside doors were difficult to operate and the gate to the roadway does not latch closed and had to be secured open to prevent it blowing in the wind. All appliances were relatively new and in good order but, a word of caution, the grille is fierce and care should be taken in selecting the settings and removing trays when in use. We appreciated that Dishwasher tablets had been left for our use. A Visitors Book and information about the local area would have been helpful and, in particular, details of the local bus routes and times which we found to be an excellent way of getting around the area. The accommodation and storage was very good for two people but doubt it would be adequate for four adults. Our one major reservation, as older occupants, was the Bathroom. The Bath is high sided, difficult get in and out, and has no grab rail or nonslip mat for showering. There is no power point for a Shaver or Electric Tooth Brush. This need not have been a problem if we had known beforehand and taken an adaptor. Also, the Bathroom door latch does not easily latch and, when it was latched, was difficult to open. We had to ensure the door was left unlatched at all times.

On arrival there was a strong smell in the cottage which took 3 days to clear.

Initially we thought this was damp after reading the comments book but as the weather was warm and dry, this was discounted. We believe that the smell was a result of over use of the cleaning chemicals/materials. This was apparent when we tried to use the teapot which resulted in a bad tasting, and bad smelling cup of tea as the same cleaner had been used to clean the teapot. Once cleaned it was ok. The bathroom could have been cleaner. There was mould around the bath taps, the bottom of the shower screen and around the window. The only ventilation available was to open the window, not the best idea as the neighbour would be able to look directly into the room when you use the shower. There was no extractor only a wall heater. The booklet for the cottage stated that the heating should remain switched on at all times. However the heater in the lounge although switched on, did not work. The lights were on but no heat came from the heater. ***Owner Response*** “Thank you for the feedback - this is very much appreciated this enables us to understand the things which might need a little ‘love and care’ in the property, as inevitably things do overtime with use. We plan to • repair / replace the radiator in the lounge at the earliest opportunity • Fit an extractor fan in the bathroom - this has not been pointed out as an issue previously, however I can recognise that if the bathroom door is left closed all the time this could be an issue We were in the property about 4 weeks before your stay and were really pleased with the condition and the cleanliness of the place. We are sorry that in the intervening period a small amount of discolouration has appeared in the bathroom and this is certainly something that will be the focus for cleaning in the future”. David

We have visited Porthcurno for many years and it was great to return in September this year.

Seascape is clean and comfortable with easy access car parking but it is the little things that let it down. Every property I have ever stayed in over the years provides the bear essentials but we were very disappointed to find just half a toilet roll, a quarter of a bottle of Carex soap in the bathroom, just ONE bin liner in the cupboard, very basic tea and coffee sachets and no salt/pepper. I think for the price paid it wouldn't have been too much to expect a couple of loo rolls and perhaps a nice little wrapped bar of soap? A few biscuits in the welcome pack? The milk in the fridge was appreciated but considering the nearest large supermarket is a 20 mile round trip, I feel a little more effort could have been made. It felt like we were being told: "Here, don't expect any more than THAT!" I certainly never think to pack salt and pepper and also there was no cork screw so, when we sat down to relax with a glass of wine the first evening, we couldn't uncork it! The apartment is in a lovely position, the bed was comfortable but larger people would struggle with the tiny shower. Also we would have liked a lamp in the living room because you either sit in the dark watching television, or in bright light! We actually moved a small lamp from the bedroom to make it cosier. So overall the property is very clean and comfortable but no effort was made with the little things that, to me personally, mean a lot!

      An absolutely outstanding property.

A huge apartment over two floors of the Old Hotel. Beautifully furnished with lovely attention to detail and felt like a loved home. It had everything you needed and more. An exceptionally well equipped kitchen, lots of living space. We loved the conservatory and the balcony which was my favourite area to sit in with beautiful views. A very comfortable lounge with a TV with sky, a wii console games and dvd's provided. A lovely stocked book cabinet. Beautiful clean, bright bedrooms with comfy beds, quality bedding and fluffy towels. The master bedroom suite was exceptional with idyllic views and a fabulous freestanding bath. Fans provided if it was hot, hairdryers, iron and ironing board, hoover. Everything you want a home to have. It's the little details, the little touches like their manuals on everything, their local walking books, make this property stand out. It definitely felt like a place with a heart that was loved. Our only negative was we needed a kitchen cupboard to put our food as they were all full with equipment and that on our second week we had noisy kids in the apartment above that jumped and ran around all the time so we couldhear all footsteps. However we had the most wonderful time and would highly recommend this accommodation and would most definitely return.

Perfect for a day out and a great place to visit with your dog.

    Gwynver Beach

Close to Sennen Cove, Gwynver beach reportedly gets its name from Guinevere, wife of the legendary Cornish King Arthur. Accessible from a steep path from above, the beach is rarely too crowded. Steep granite cliffs rise from behind.
