"We are a family of two adults, a teenager and a toddler. The Bothy was a perfect getaway for us all. It's a ten-minute drive from the M6 and about 20 minutes to Penrith. We visited Windermere which took a little over an hour, though there was snow so we were driving with caution. The accommodation is lovely and the photos on the website really don't do it justice. The zip-wire in the garden kept us all entertained and we enjoyed walking around to see the pond with the swans. The crazy golf course was covered in snow when we were there but it looked like it would have been fun for the family. The kitchen is one of the most well-stocked rental property kitchens we'd ever seen - there were more appliances than we have in our own home! The house was warm, despite the weather and there were plenty of books and board games to keep us occupied in the evenings. There are two bathrooms, though no bath. The owners are lovely and strike the perfect balance between being welcoming hosts and leaving you to have your own space. We cannot recommend The Bothy highly enough and very much hope to go back again."

"Cottage on a farm with another cottage next-door and owner in farm-house on site. The cottage is in the middle of nowhere and it snowed when we went in February. Fantastic views of night-sky from garden. It was modern inside, spotlessly clean, comfortable sofas, well equipped with games for kids. Some thoughtful extras - wine, sweets. Easy to use, cosy feeling optimist fire. Our main problem was that the biomass heating came on in the night in the bedroom. It was vibrating and making a loud low hum and could not be turned off, so we couldn't sleep on the first night. It was a mistake that was sorted out quickly the next day when we spoke to the owner's son. We had chosen the property from the description/photos which said there was a large wooden play area just outside the cottage. The children were looking forward to this, but unfortunately it had recently been removed to make room for the garden for the larger property next door. It should have been changed on the description but it had not been."

"We've visited Sunny Hill before but in the bleak midwinter of 2009, so we were keen to revisit without snow drifts and be able to explore more of the beautiful Cumbrian countryside that we just could not get to first time around. We were not disappointed - the walk to the village pub is just right, with a fantastic menu to suit everyone. Sue and Joe are so accommodating and nothing is too much trouble for them to ensure you have a great relaxing stay. The cottage has everything you could possibly need and is so comfortable. The weather was amazingly mild for mid-March which all added to the overall pleasure of the week - we even managed to sit out in the garden for lunch on two days and use the garden swing to have forty winks after our lunchtime bottle of wine, left as a welcoming gift from our hosts. I think we may even go back again in another season - we've yet to spot those red squirrels that many other visitors seem to have seen many times before us!"

"The cottage was exactly as described on the website. It was refreshing to book somewhere and the photo images represented exactly what we got on arrival. The views from the rear of the property were just breath taking. The only negative that I have about the cottage is the bathroom. I had to go out and buy a non-slip bath mat as the one in the property was no longer sticking to the bath. The shower due to it being over the bath could do with a safety handle fixing to the wall to help steady people as I actually fell getting into the shower one morning due to my disability. This is the only negative point the welcome with the bottle of wine and fresh flowers was a lovely touch. I will definitely be rebooking the property as it was lovely and cosy and very comfortable. it lived up to my expectations and more."

"Had a lovely week at the Bothy although the weather was a mix of sunshine, showers and occasional heavy rain. Plenty of places to visit including Carlisle, the northern Lakes and Penrith. Hutton in the Forest is well worth a visit as the house tour is very interesting. The single track lanes round about are not for the faint hearted especially if there is a tractor coming the other way but the peace and quiet of the cottage makes up for the lack of walkable attractions. There was everything in the cottage you could possibly need including a library of books and games. Many thanks to Alison and Richard for their kind welcome."
